looking for best quality "snail" type vandal dome camera?
mrreddog posted a topic in Security Cameras
who has the best quality outdoor "snail" or "turret" type vandal dome camera? the ones without the dome.. ive tested a few and so far the intellicam ada2000irv seems pretty good, but there has to be something with a better day/night image out there?? please chime in with your thoughts and experiences with these type of cameras,thanks.. -
i get swarms of insects setting off MD at night, they must sense the heat or IR light, anyone have any ideas on how to keep insects away??

thats something ive always wondered too, very good info..but then why is there 580 and above cameras? most dvrs have a max resolution of 4 cif or d-1,so the 580 and 600 tvl are not any better than a 540? or maybe i have it all wrong

does anyone have suggestions on schedule setup, ive got my intelicam js-8xa all setup now and need pointers on setting up a schedule with multiple motion detection sensitivity's through out a 24 hr period. as the sun goes down, the motion sense gets more sensitive so basically im looking for dynamic schedule help. or is there any programs out there to help with this? or maybe a flo chart? or do you guys just set motion sense at one level and leave it? i get it set pretty good at daytime, then get many false motion at night. and what to do about headlight reflection without masking too much out?

Building an underwater camera using a security camera
mrreddog replied to florin's topic in Security Cameras
i replied to your pm,mine is b/w,im pretty sure its the same one thats linked on his site, the better b/w one. and it has i think 8 ir leds,he didnt offer the white ones when i bought it 7 yrs ago..we even placed it a foot away from a doves nest and watched the eggs hatch till the hatchlings flew away.it was pretty neat..then i used it once for checking for a blockage about 30 ft down a 5 inch well. He used to have images of the led curcuit board and diagrams of the whole setup, but when I just looked it looks like its not there anymore..but its the best diy setup I've seen. like I said, mine works great and still works after years of ice fishing.....cheap too...and I am not advertising, I don't know him...good luck.. -

i did this several years ago, there was a guy on the net selling a kit,it was a board cam with a custom led board,it came with seals and plexi lens too, to Finnish the kit i had to buy regular pvc plumbing parts..it really works pretty good..i will look for the name of the guy or website... -

so let me get this straight, the original cable was RCA cable, like a/v cable?? or was it cheap rg59 Siamese cable?? -
i dont know much about the dvr, but the logo is stolen from the view-master viewer..??

yeah i gotcha, Korea is quite far from Michigan...anyways i just got of the phone with the guys that sell the viewmax 800,apparently it is d-1(720x480) but at only 7.5 fps, which is, i think, the same as the avtech 761 ?(correct me if im wrong) so what do you guys consider a good resolution? probably d-1 @ 30 fps.per ch.,am i correct?? if so now my search begins all over again......whats the cheapest solution for a stand alone 8ch. dvr. that gets d-1 @ 30fps. per ch.?? resolution is my main concern.. thanks guys,im learning..
-
well im pretty familiar with most other electronics, and i read over the user guide, its pretty straight forward.im just unsure how video resolution,compression,cif,d-1 all works....(i read all kinds of tutorials, still don't quite get it) i guess my question should of been--with good cameras, are these video display/record/playback specs pretty good?? i was looking at the avtech761 but i think these display/record/playback specs are higher?? it meets all my other needs,im just looking for the best resolution specs i can get while staying as cheap as possible..help,anybody?

sorry, i didnt realize this was so much text... im getting ready to make the purchase so if someone can help out i would really appreciate it,it sells for around $400-$500 is it worth it??

Rookie dvr system questions about av761 and more....
mrreddog posted a topic in Digital Video Recorders
hi,my name is Rodger, im great with electronics and wiring etc. but a rookie at dvrs. i have a lot of questions, sorry, but Ive been researching the forums and cant find specific answers. i would like a cheap dvr with halfway decent cams to make the best combo i can. i have a living room at the rear of the house so we never hear cars coming up the driveway so i would like to be able to view on main tv with a flick of the tv remote(input select) also from the internet as im always at computer, it would also be used for surveillance while were at work or gone from my blackberry. i have been looking at the avtech 761 because its cheap(friend has one for $150) will it do all my needs? the cams i was thinking would be G4-HPV540 High Definition IR Camera that is color by day,b/w at night. or is this cam overkill for the 761? i also have other specific questions too,i know im asking a lot but im just learning about this security stuff. 1. is Web Transmitting / Compression Format =Motion JPEG ,bad? or is H.264 much better? is there a delay with the Motion JPEG? 2. 761 uses ide hard drive, is that a big deal vs sata? 3. is Video Server E crappy? can 761 use Video Viewer or better? whats the difference? 4. what would i use MJPEG or MPEG4? i need internet,tv,blackberry viewing. 5. whats better frame or cif ? why? im sure i will have more ? but these answers will get me off on the right foot, thanks to all that reply, Rodger..
