I went to an Open Day at the Samsung Techwin HQ here in the UK. They had their range on display / demo. They have not heard of any range problems with the 4160 IR. I will be installing a mixture of the 4160 / 4260's in a car dealership in the next couple of weeks so I will post a review / pics then. I have am currentley installing 6 SDC-435's and a SH745 and will also post pics. I have one up and running and it is very good in low light.

I must try that when the Wife wants me to help out with the Chores ''Sorry Dear just got a Callout to go to''

Ditto BT Home Hubs & CCTV don't mix - not very user friendly. Neutech is right, I always use NetGear, you can use a DNS service with it as well so you don't need to pay extra for a Static IP.

I have been asking about the 4160 and it's sister the 4260 Dome, they look good on paper. I did a post on a UK Forum and got a report back regarding the IR not been so good. http://thefireandsecurityinstaller.com/community/index.php?showtopic=31383 If any one has used the 4260 I would be grateful for a review

If you want to keep intruders away you can nail a picture of my mother-in-law to the porch..... now thats scary !

Ah but Tom is the Avermedia user friendly and can motion events be viewed with a few simple keys on a remote control? I'm guessing that easy of use comes at a price or can I be proved wrong !

I am looking for a TDN bullet and I am getting tired of using cheap cameras were the colours look washed out during the day because there is no IR cut filter. There has been some critical posts on the WZ16 (over a year ago I might add). I am drawn towards the Extreme reputation....has anybody used these camera's recently and can they recomend them ?

Certification of Approved Devices - Help Please!!!!
alanjh1965 replied to slthornton49's topic in Security Cameras
Baxall where taken over by Dedicated Micros, their camera range has been rebranded as the ICE range. I have done some digging and here is the Installation Instructions that covers that model..... http://www.sourcesecurity.com/docs/fullspec/ZACF96.pdf If this is not suitable contact D.M or change the camera ! Regards AL -
Check the addressing of the Dome, sometimes it is easy to knock the address switches to a different number when fixing the dome to the base! Good Luck!

I have got an Intellex LT running V4 software, the DVR was powered down and up quickly, which I understand can cause problems - It will not boot up. I have read support doc's which say it has to be sent back for repair, is there anything I can do to get it to boot up ? Thanks
-
Thanks for the prompt reply Yes the system has the four SATA connections and the two fans at the rear. The new Power Supply I installed does have a fan and it does face across the processor (That also has a fan) I guessed that it wouldn't be very wise to touch the System Drive but I thought I might swap the 250GB Data for a 1TB Drive seeing as they are so cheap - I don't intend to fill every spare space inside with Hard Drives ! Just a little extra storage. Should I stick to Western Digital models that AD use or do you have any recomendations ? I am only using the DVR in our Shop (Hardware/Locksmiths/Security store) as a Demo unit it will be piggy back with our exsisitng DM DS2 Thanks again AL

Just an update on this thread... I finally got round to replacing the Power Supply (put in a 650w unit) and it Boots up first time ! Thanks for all the advice. Next thing I will try is to upgrade the drives... it has two 250GB Drives One is marked System Drive and the other is marked Data - any recomendations ?

what cable to use on farm?
alanjh1965 replied to f05bf1c2's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
You could take a look at American Dynamics You could use a Touch Tracker linked by two wires to their Multiplexer (cheaper than a DVR) which is fully functional and will control pictures. But you will have to use their Domes. £££ $$$ http://americandynamics.net/WebApps/getDocument.aspx?filename=8200-0306-01_C_E.pdf You can only have two Keyboards though. -

I would quote Dedicated Micros as this is what I use when installing PTZ/Domes. You can put the DVR anywhere and the Keyboard can run on a cat5 upto 1KM away ! The Keyboard is fully functional with joystick, you can select single/quad/multi screen, playback, event log. Only drawback is these do hurt the pocket. You should get some feed back from other Guys who have used a similar set up with a budget DVR. Tying looking at some of the advertisers on this site. -

Another option for you is to install the DVR in the Shed (if there is somewhere suitable) Most DVR's have a remote Keyboard option where you can control all the functions of the DVR/Dome. Then in theory all you need to run back is one CAT5 for picture and keyboard data. Althought I would would run a cat5 and RG59 for picture. Something to think about ! -
I was more of an Action Man type of Kid but Steve had CCTV ahead of his time, Zoom Lens, Infra Red and even Thermal ! I bet he didn't use Swann

It Works !!! Another tool for my toolbox. Thanks for Posting Surprising what you can find out on CCTV Forum
-
Hey, who told you they pay is Good and were is this person? I thought you IT Boys had the Mansion / Bentley / Girls on each arm ! Seriously thought, If you do a CCTV course this will certainly help and give you a grounding of the basics. Problem in the UK is that most security companies are desperate for installers that are multi skilled e.g they can install CCTV, Intruder Alarms and Access Control. A better option would be to sub contract to various companies, you are more likley to get CCTV work that way. One thing in your favor is new developments in CCTV, especially Networked Cameras and Recorders, you would be surprised the amount of people that are good with analoge CCTV but stumble when it comes to Network configuration. Perhaps you should could persuade your current employers to offer simple networked CCTV, this way you can gain experience whilst getting payed! There are some very good threads that are worth reading and experienced people on this Forum that are always willing to help. Good Luck

Dedicated Micros DS2 Monitor Output
alanjh1965 replied to BJW_RCDD's topic in Digital Video Recorders
With the new DS2 the Main monitor output can be configured as follows... Full Screen Picture in Picture Quad Multiscreen - which you can toggle between 9 Way, 8+2 Way, (half the screen has two large pictures the top half has eight), 12+1 Way and 16 way When using any of the Quad or Multiscreen displays you can select which camera fills each 'box' so it doesn't have to be in numerical order. You can also program activity display so for example if you have 16 cameras on the display or even 1 picture and some one triggers the activity on another camera it will bring that camera up full screen for 5 seconds you can also have it make an audible warning - quite useful for the security guard taking a nap Hope this helps ! new state of the art system fitted at work... is it legal??
alanjh1965 replied to is_it_legal's topic in General Digital Discussion
As long as signs are displayed that ''CCTV is being recorded for the Purpose of Crime Prevention and Public Safety'', then he is complying with the Data Protection Act on CCTV. Have a read of the guidelines for systems here in the UK..... http://www.ico.gov.uk/for_organisations/topic_specific_guides/cctv.aspx ''In areas where people have a heightened expectation of privacy, such as changing rooms or toilet areas, cameras should only be used in the most exceptional circumstances where it is necessary to deal with very serious concerns. In these cases, you should make extra effort to ensure that those under surveillance are aware'' It sounds like a typical installation for a commercial premises, it isn't uncommon to install a camera in the canteen. These days the Boss likes to keep an eye on his employees from his Villa in Spain ! Hope this helps
