alanjh1965 replied to blake's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Just for anyone elses info I find PowerMid works with DM's so it should work with most other DVR brands, You can have a second transmitter too. http://www.smarthome.com/8210.html -
IP CCTV newbie! Some general home-user questions!
alanjh1965 replied to TonyC32's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Forget IP - too expensive ! Get yourself a nice DVR and camera (yes I will be waiting for the abusive comments) Moving onto location of the camera, the right hand side is the better location as you can look across the drive - normally I would install one camera on each side, but your bay window causes a problem. Perhaps you could fit one under the sofit to give a birds eye view and one at low level I used to install cameras up high but now I install them about 8ft so you can get facial recognition. Below are a few examples I have installed to give you some idea on locations........ http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm85/alanjh1965/IMG_2050.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm85/alanjh1965/IMG_2047.jpg Here's the actual footage of shots with the cameras low down (including the wife!)........ http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm85/alanjh1965/6.jpg http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm85/alanjh1965/4.jpg AL [/url] -
Boy, this is one you need to spec right ! I am not experienced in large IP systems (scared of them!) but take a look a Verint. They have a Nextiva IP System for example that can cater for 100 camera inputs which will give 2CIF/15fps for 18 Days using 11TB for space. You need to ask what does the Customer want the Cameras for ? What footage do they want to record and for how long ? Do they want alarm on motion detection at a central point? I always feel nervous (fear of the unknown) with large IP. I would prefer to put a reliable 4 way DVR in each location as you can't loose any footage if the Network is down. Most good manufactures give a 3 year warranty on DVR's now and if you pay a little bit more for a known brand DVR you can make money on maintainace charges. Talk to a Rep from a DVR company see what support they offer and any money off for bulk discounts http://verint.com/video_solutions/overview.cfm?article_level1_category_id=407 Also take a look at IndigoVision...... http://www.indigovision.com/products.php Good Luck!

I like this............. Wi-Fi Wireless Memory Card helps catch thief· 10 Jun 2008 Caught on camera! - Camera thief is caught and arrested after Wi-Fi card sends snaps back to owner's computer. The Eye-Fi Wireless SD memory card helped to catch a camera thief in Florida last week when $1,000 worth of camera gear was stolen. Photography enthusiast Alison DeLauzon was on holiday when her equipment was stolen, but later managed to catch a glimpse of the thief when the images from her card were sent to her home computer via the internet. The Eye-Fi SD card, which had been given as a gift to Alison, works by automatically connecting to the internet when inserted into your camera and sends photos direct back to the user's computer. The thief had unwittingly sent the vacation shots back to Alison's computer when he passed by an unsecured network with settings matching those of her home system. Alongside her holiday snaps were images of the thief with the equipment he had stolen when Alison left her gear behind in a restaurant! "I opened up the Eye-Fi manager on the computer and, lo and behold, there are the guys that stole our cameras," DeLauzon told Reuters. After reporting the incident to police, the thief was consequently caught and charged. This is not the first case of camera helping to catch a criminal. Last year, a Japanese man set up a hidden camera in his kitchen when food kept disappearing from his cupboards. The footage showed images of an unknown woman who had been living secretly in his closet!

I use ADI here in the UK, BUT when I am putting a quote together I always email them with a list of parts and they send back a quote. Never go on ADI's book price. I generally get 20-25% off their Trade Prices on DM products 10-15% on Honeywell As for Service, I can't complain, I use the online ordering system and it is delivered as requested. The local branch I use the Staff are friendly and knowlegable. Also I always send the list of equipment to another supplier to get a quote comparison. the anwser is... Shop around !

Interesting.... Is it a Static Cam or does it actually move ? Put a link in your message so we can have a look at your Gadget. If it has a Video Output then it can be wired into a DVR ! P.S Sounds like a Swann special (scorpians favorite manufacturer)

Cheers Scorpion, That has put a smile on my face after a long and dusty Friday on a first fix building site I think I am going to ask DM if I can go on their payroll ! -
I have used a Cheap Bullet variant with built in LED's which does not see much in my back Garden then I added a UFLED from Derwent and hey presto I can see the whole Garden ! Try it with one of your Bullets to see what picture you get. Better still get a Box camera such as a Sanyo Day/Night with IR Cut filter then you will really see what a proper camera can do with IR ! Digital Sprite2 DVD Archive info needed
alanjh1965 replied to HalOfBorg's topic in Digital Video Recorders
If it's the New DS2 DVD DVR you can't save as AVI. You will need either use the NetVu ObserVer Software or the Playback Viewer Software. The file is saved as a .PAR The Software can be found here..... http://www.dedicatedmicros.com/uk/support_downloads_online.php -
Easiest way, if you are not ''Network Savvy'' is to burn to the on board CD writer then you can transfer to PC. Or you could either... 1. Use a Crossover lead and go direct from PC to DVR, you will have to assign you PC a fixed IP address then assign a fixed IP address in the Network settings on the DVR. 2. If you have a router that you already use you are halfway there, you just need to enter a IP address and Gateway into the DVR Network settings Either way as soon as you connect to the DVR open a browser and put the DVR ip address in the URL line, this will bring up the DVR menu where you can download the Viewer (DM has the Network Software on every machine althought it might not be the latest version it is still useable Here is a link to the D4 Network Viewer Manual.... http://www.dedicatedmicros.com/uk/file.php?path=%2Fhome%2Fdedicated%2Fuk%2Ffiles%2Fsupport_docs%2Ff220&filename=DS2_NVS_manual_2-0.pdf AL

Take a look at this..... Radar that can contol upto 5 PTZ's http://cbceurope.co.uk/CCTV/prodimages/W800_RadarDetection.pdf Could be an alternative or as a confirmation of an Intruder. -
I will have to go with scorpion. I use the same camera here in the UK. I get the 520TVL version and it is a great picture for the price - just a pain in the a*s to fix when you have a solid wall and no cavity behind ! But customers like the size and it looks smart.

It's OK, I have checked into the rehab for frustrated CCTV Installers I got the same feeling when I used my last Video Recorder and multiplexer and went over to DVR's !

2-Camera Design Question
alanjh1965 replied to wisp_engineer's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
RG59 will be fine. You could use External CAT5 between buildings then RG59 to the cameras. This would leave you with two spare pairs for additional cameras or spares should if a pair went down. Fiber is a bit over the top, unless the property is owned by Bill Gates ! -
You could have this Bad Boy from DM ! http://www.dedicatedmicros.com/uk/products_details.php?product_id=165 They also do a DV-IP High Definition recording and playback model 16 or 32 Cameras 400pps gives 16 Cameras recorded simultaneously at full 4CIF 16 Channels of audio recording analogue and megapixel IP recording HDMI interface More Power Aggh Aggh Aggh Aggh !!!! I want one, please. Oh and I forgot the $18K price tag Sorry Cold Shower time !

splicing into an existing camera??
alanjh1965 replied to rdawg's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Their are various options you can use....... You could fit a DuoLink (made by SNT) This will send two video feeds down one cable then split it back into two at the DVR. You could use convertors to turn the coaxile cable into a Network cable, stick a router at the end and use IP cameras All these are rather expensive compared with home running new cables ! -
WOW! Dear Santa........ !
