    10 camera DVR

You would actually be putting 3 cameras throught one feed (10,11&12) A very cheap way would be to put the three cameras throught a switcher which switches the cameras every 5 -30 seconds, record wise you will drop so many frames it is just not worth it. The best solution is to buy a 4 channel DVR for the two cameras.

    Customer with a large entrance

I can't comment on Geovision, I haven't used it. But take a look at Optex they have Dual Infra Red Beams which can cover up to 500ft ! Very reliable if set up correctly. Only problem they need 12volt power both ends which could be a problem on some properties althought they have a solar powered version. They have a clean relay alarm ouput so you have options were to send the alarm to. If Geovision has alarm inputs you could use that or you could buy a Speech/Text unit from Texacom which could send a SMS text message or pre recorded message to several cell phone numbers. Have you thought about how to turn the beams on and off ? You could put a keyswitch in a waterproof box outside the area of the beams. Just a few ideas for to think about !

  9. Scorpian for PRESIDENT PHEW ! Scorpian you had better go and have a lay down for a while. But what a great post. I have never seen a Blue Screen of Death on a DVR. It really does come down to 'You get what you Pay for and 'Buy in Haste Repent at Leisure' This sounds like an advert but I buy DM which is expensive but you get a 3 Year Warranty on the DVR's (4 on Domes) and also I get advance replacement on products under 6 months old. I have a dedicated account manager who calls in at the shop and will pass on sales leads. I get more problems with the budget DVR's I sold just to make a fast buck and I can tell you it is not worth the hassle. I too am sick off time wasters coming into the shop to ask for advice and then go to Maplins and buy some crappy wireless, battery powered camera. The CCTV industry is rapidly changing, more people are installing their own systems, instead of hiring a professional, no wonder the industry is getting a bad name when you see images on the news from robberies that are out of focus or unuseable in a court of law. Those of us that are in it for the long haul are going to have to adapt and change with new technologies, MegaPixel and IP are coming weather we like it or not. Time for a Beer
  10. The .Box and.Bix files are from Kodicom DVR's I don't have first hand experience of the DVR but I guess you can only play it thought their network viewer software. You can download video from the recorder in avi format. AL

CCTV system & Network Design for Gas Plant & remote

WOW, now there's a nice job for someone ! I think the last sentance says it all ''Any cheap solution can be used'' I suspect whatever you chose your cameras must be intrinsically safe.... These would suit your requirements...... http://www.fvcctv.com/products/documents/MIC1_440_atex_version2.pdf with Gas at $10 a gallon in the UK I am sure you could stretch the budget a little

Please help i have tried it all.

Silly question, I take it you are using your external IP address ? 192.168.1.1 etc will not work on the outside world. if you 'goggle' MyIP it will give you your IP address AL

Need help .. CCTV for ATM ?

Usually it is the Bank that dictates what you should be using in respect of CCTV and equipment. An example of what I installed is...... Standalone ATM in Supermarket.. One Dome Camera outside looking at the ATM Machine. One Pinhole camera inside the ATM Machine to view Customer making Transaction and in the case of a hole in the wall type ATM One Camera in ATM Room to view machine being filled. In one store we fitted a '' I feel nervous button'' behind the ATM. A Panic button linked to the CCTV and to the monitoring centre to alert them if the person filling the machine with cash had been followed and wanted to alert the CCTV operator to keep watch whilst they were filling the machine. This was instead of a full blown personal attack signal. The DVR was in the CCTV room in the store. I have always found in the case of Banks, they tell you what they want

    Metal Mickey's

Yes they are from a Good Pedigree and so they should be for the price (£2700 / $5000) Extreme / Derwent is now owned by Bosch ! I went to the Forward Vision factory here in the UK a couple of years ago when I used to work for ADT (moment of madness) and they are very well built and tested, they had one on test in an oven for two years at over 100 degrees and one under water in a fish tank ! Never got the chance to install one, so I don't know if there are any pitfalls. AL

DM Sprite II Network Problems ( Resolved)

Glad to be of Service ! That's what is great about this Forum... getting answers from people, not the manufactures, who have used the products out in the field ! don't worry in the UK DM use the 'RS' on some DVR models that mean Retail Solutions i.e POS connection

    1Km wireless?

Take a look at radiodata.co.uk I have used their equipment for two cameras at a Kennels and they worked fine - £1100 for the TRX & RX & PSU's 1.4MHz They do a 5.8MHZ TRX & RX in 12v or 240v for £900 Should be line of sight when fitting ! AL

DM Sprite II Network Problems ( Resolved)

I have never been happy with the admin software on the old DS2 the new NetVu Observer for the New DS2's is a lot lot better. Also be aware that when you log in with the admin software whatever you do can be seen on the main monitor. So if you change camera, the main monitor camera changes ! If you play back then the customer can see you play back A couple of more useful DM links ! DM DVR Micros Bus RJ Connector question

May be I have the wrong end of the stick but if you are installing a DM Remote Keyboard then you should be using 2 DM 485 Junction boxes. You connect one to the DVR via the supplied cable and wire the CAT5 into it (screw terminals) then a the remote end you wire the CAT5 into the Junction Box and add 12v power supply then the keyboard plugs into the junction box. http://www.dedicatedmicros.com/uk/file.php?path=%2Fhome%2Fdedicated%2Fuk%2Ffiles%2Fsupport_docs%2Ff134&filename=MI-I-CJ01-E1-0_Junction_Box.pdf All the leads come with the equipment you should not be stressing out making up patch leads ! Good Luck
  21. Silly question but have you pressed and held the 'menu' button.... That should get you into the installer menu, if you just tap the menu key it will only show the user menu. This can throw you if you are not used to it! When you hold the Menu key The 'Time, Date & Language' page is displayed you can then tap the menu key to go to the next page. I am a bit of a DM groupie as I find it easy for the end user, espicially using the 'Event' key to scroll throught motion detection Good Luck AL

  23. Hey, I'm a Brit but let me Translate for you !!! Transformer = Power Supply (12 or 24v) I must admit I call it a Power Supply and I hate it when people call it a 'transformer' or 'charger' Spur = power outlet In the UK we don't always plug our power supplies for the CCTV directly into a power outlet. We install a 13amp Fused Spur, this prevents someone turning off the power by accident and also if a fault develops protects the power circuit. Strange but true I never use 'Wall Warts' unless I am installing a single camera a Boxed Power supply is much neater. As for the Power Supply in the Loft / Attic this is common in residential installations as most of our buildings are brick built including the internal walls and running 4 RG59's from the ground floor to the attic is a problem in its self. I agree with Scorpian the best way is to home run all cables - which is what we do if the building is under construction As for 'Shotgun' or Siamese - too expensive and to bulky to use I always use RG59 or CAT5.

Need advice on alarm-triggering CCTV system

I think you need to rethink your Budget ! I personally would steer clear of motion detectors unless you like having disturbed sleep. The problem with spending low £££ or $$$ on a cheap system is you will get tired of the false alarms then switch it off completly. I would install a set of infra red beams across the yard, these if set up correctly do not get triggered by cats, foxes, rain etc. You can run a cable back to the flat and get it to trigger a buzzer and/or trigger CCTV A set of beams range from £100 - £220 Power Supply £20 Buzzer £5 Another option is a PIR with Voice Warning - this plays a warning message on detection Good Hunting !
