  1. Guys I have a vacation rental home that I rent out on a weekly basis. I have a hidden camera that overlooks my dock and my boat. Do I have to make public to my renters that I have this camera in place? From what I have read is you must make everyone aware if the camera is in a spot that is deemed a reasonable right to privacy. I do not consider an outdoor camera affording a reasonable right to privacy, as any of the close neighbors can see the same thing I am looking at. At the same time I can not help but see some of the tenants using the area the cam covers. What are your thoughts?
  2. I have a camera in my shed that faces my dock. I had to install it this way. I drilled a 2" hole through the wood siding, I then screwed a piece of Lexan on the inside with the camera tight against the lexan. It is protected from the elements this way but when you walk by the shed you can see that ugly 2" hole and the camera. I was thinking of putting a 3"x3" piece of smoked lexan or smoked glass over the outside hole to hide it, but I would probably lose any night vision doing this. Is there a better solution? Thanks Mike.

How can I make my camera a bit less obvious.

Yes it is a dropcam, I know they are shunned here but I don't have to have a dvr either. I only have one cam here and it is $99 a year for cloud recording. With the cost of the wiring and the dvr I don't mind that cost. It also has a good picture, I take care of 5 Pelcos at work and I honestly like these cams better. Even my wife can use them with ease.
  4. Hi all just got this camera, pelco spectra III DD53C22 and was bench testing it, and all I can get is black and white, no color what am I doing wrong. 5. was at Home Depot and they had these, they have good reviews, what say the experts here. I have a home in the keys that I am having a new seawall installed in a few months. I have been thinking about 2 or three of these facing the work so I can monitor it. They would be indoors looking through the glass. I do have high speed internet there. and it looks like I could pay $9.99 per month to store the video to the cloud while construction is going on. Or of coarse watch it live. Edit: I just read the post from other member about these cameras. How come no one makes a stand alone DVR that could receive all the signals from stand alone cameras wirelessly over your home network eliminating the video cable, so all the cameras would only need a power supply. Then you could record and control the DVR remotely over the net. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Dropcam-Wireless-720p-HD-Wi-Fi-Indoor-Surveillance-Video-Monitoring-Camera-with-Remote-Viewing-DCAM-001-000/204365856#customer_reviews

Pelco cameras lost the PTZ funtions

Update, I had a security company come out to check it out, they tested the board that controls the TX + and - and it was not good. So he is going to see if he can find a replacement board. Thanks Guys.
  7. Hi guys I have 4 pelco spectra 4 cameras hooked to a Integral DS RealVue model DS-R16-2000. Everything has worked great for the last year, all of a sudden the PTZ function's have quit working on all 4 cameras. I have tried resetting the power on all the cameras. I am using DS Control Point software. I used to be able to go to I believe preset 95 to get to the camera menu, but I cant even do that now. I also tried disconnecting each TX + and - wires from each camera separately, no luck. I am starting to think I might have a bad video board on the DVR. Any thing I am missing? Thanks Mike

Pelco cameras lost the PTZ funtions

Hi. mikeloew1 sounds like COM port problem. this can happen if fitted a new mouse / keyboard or external USB drive. IF you go into your DS Control Point software and look under setting you will see which com port is used. then go into DVR setting then manage devices and in list COM. see if number matches that of your control point Tom my Integral DS RealVue model DS-R16-2000 is a Pelco stand alone DVR How do I check the com port settings, that you advised?

  11. can anyone recomend an outside PTZ dome camera that will follow motion and track it.
  12. Guys I have 5 Pelco Spectra PTZ cams, I have really never used the tour capabilities, I just set one up to try it, I set 5 presets and the cameras will go to each preset for 10 seconds. I kind of like this as I am covering more area now. How hard is this on the cameras? I would assume I will be rebuilding them much more frequently with them moving now.

    Pelco cable

Just a heads up for anyone trying this. It worked perfectly. My run is about 150' I have a Pelco power supply, I used the 28v tap Red and black are power, yellow and brown I used for the video to the video baluns and Blue and orange for the PTZ control. The only thing I am concerned about is when its cold enough for the heater element to start, I will find out soon, and if so I could move the power supply closer to the camera if I have to. Thanks for the help guys. Mike

    Pelco cable

Hi guys, I am going to be adding another Pelco spectra/3 camera to my system. It will be about 100'-130' away from the DVR. I cannot recall, but I think I need 2 wires for power, 2 wires for the PTZ functions and of course the video feed line. My question is I have a new roll of 18ga 6 conductor wire, could I use 2 of the wires for the video path and use a Video Balun on each end or will that only work with CAT5? My thinking is I would only have to run one cable instead of 2. The cable I have is 6 individual insulated copper stranded wires in one cable but I do not think they are twisted. Does that make a difference? Thanks Mike

Auto tracking outside PTZ dome camera

Thanks for all the input guys. Here was the example I saw on youtube. I would agree that this camera would not last long if it was in constant motion.

    Pelco cable

Thanks Brian, that is exactly what I am going to do. I unrolled the spool of wire Fri, and got the 2 ends stripped. I will test it Tue. Thanks, Mike

Auto tracking outside PTZ dome camera

    thats a great point.
  18. Hi guys, I have a pelco spectra iii that is blowing the small 1.25a fuse. It is the the fuse in the camera dome housing. Not the camera itself. I believe on my setup when you snap the camera out of the housing, there is a small door that looks like a power supply, however it could also be the fiber optic converter. As my cameras are long runs and are on fiber optics runs. Anyone have any ideas on what to look for? I am thinking about swapping that camera with another one to start, if it still blows the fuse I would at least be able to rule out the camera itself?

    Pelco backbox ????

Hi guys, does anyone know if a Pelco BB53T-PG-E backbox will work with either of these two Pelco cameras? DD4C22 or a DD53C22? Thanks Mike

You were right it was the failed Power Supply board. DD53KIT. i was a little nervous cutting the pins off of the board, but I followed the directions and it works great now. Thanks again. Mike

    pelco spectra iii blowing fuses

survtech just for the heck of it I pulled the 12v fan this morning and bench tested it, put 12v dc to it and it would not run, it kind of just hummed, but would not turn over, so I know its bad, would you recommend at this point that I just order the fan only first, or order the fan and the board. Just hate to spend $200 on the board if the fan only is bad, I don't know if the fan being seized up could take the power board out or a bad fan could shut the camera down? Thanks again Mike

    pelco spectra iii blowing fuses

Ok guys I replaced the fuse, and the camera came back up for a few hours, then went out again, this time it did not blow the fuse, I took the camera apart and it has a small 12v cooling fan that seems a little bit have a small amount of resistance when turning the fan blade? Would that cause the camera to go out compleatly, I know I have had computers do this and I could not even start them. I was going to try and unplug the fan and put 12v to it directly, however it does not say if its 12v dc or ac. If the fan does spin freely on 12v do you think I should replace the power board and the fan at the same time or do one or the other first? Forgot to mention these are heated cameras, I have only pulled the round metal data cover off the camera so far, the one with the 4 torks screws, and that where I saw the small fan, Thanks Mike
