Hey guys, just ordered 1 x Hikvison camera (DS-2CD2132F-I) (http://overseas.hikvision.com/us/Products_accessries_10531_i7559.html) to test but i need to spec out my build here. Please refer to the following image. I am looking at 16-20 3mp cameras. (all Hikvision and probably all DS-2CD2132F-I) I am looking at a unmanaged switch because i wouldn't know how to operate a managed one. I am looking at 2 Switches to control all cameras due to bandwidth traffic. (i calculated about 109 mbps for 10) I am going to use BLUEIRIS because that's what i have been researching this past year. I will have to go with 3 seperate NIC's due to my thought process (probably 3 x http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ethernet-products/gigabit-server-adapters/gigabit-ct-desktop-adapter.html or 2 of those Intel cards and the 3rd being the onboard NIC). So main Question, Do you guys see any problems going with 2 unmanaged switches to control 20 cameras via 2 of the specified Intel NIC cards? I'm pretty sure this next question is a yes but If i have 2 NIC's controlling 20 cameras via 2 switches can my 3rd NIC be used as my internet connection? If my thought process is correct then i don't see why not, i just have to assign a IP to each camera because the Switch doesn't assign IP's and voila, should work? Only reason why I'm asking is because i cant seem to find an answer when i google "2 switch ip camera" or "3 nic ip camera blue iris" *******I added the Manufactures URL's instead of a Retailers URL's for educational purposes, if need be i can take them down.

alright, switch problem resolved, i confused bits and bytes, one switch is all that's needed for 20 cameras running at 3mp -
16-20 x 3mp Camera system - Switch Related question
ulterior_motive replied to ulterior_motive's topic in System Design
What i gather from your answer, plug them all into one switch and connect that to the PC, but wouldn't i have bandwidth issues? From what i know, A switch that claims gigabit speed is generally going to be in and around 120 megabytes per second transfer speed. if 1 camera used 11 megabytes per second and i multiply that by 20 i get 220 megabytes of traffic per second. I'm also avoiding managed switches due to cost, - about 400 Canadian for Cisco SG300-20 and - about 200 Canadian for a Intel EXPI9402PTBLK Dual port NIC Unmanaged Switch will cost me about $150 Canadian for a Netgear Prosafe and each NIC will be about $50 Canadian each for a Intel card I dont care about POE because i have a PSU connected to my fuse box which im going use and make a DIY POE injector -
16-20 x 3mp Camera system - Switch Related question
ulterior_motive replied to ulterior_motive's topic in System Design
One thing i didn't add to the picture, the switch between the router and the pc also manages about 7 other devices, so that's why i have 3 switches on display. The switch you mentioned Cisco SF300-24PP switch is a Managed switch and i don't know how to configure a managed switch. My problem lies with gigabyte only being 130 mbps (best case scenario) and the bandwidth for 20 cameras running at 3mp is about 220 mbps. That's why the cameras are connected to two switches for bandwidth balancing. At the end of the Day, Can a PC with 3 NIC's connect to 2 switches each having 10 camera using 1 NIC a piece and 1 NIC for internet? -

Power Supply Suggestion for 16 channel 12VDC
ulterior_motive posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Hey guys, need 1 more suggestion bought 16 CNB cameras rated at 12VDC EACH, http://www.cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=1164 they are NOT 12VDC/24VAC http://www.altronix.com/index.php?pid=2&model_num=Sav18D or http://www.altronix.com/index.php?pid=2&model_num=Sav182D Altronix was suggestion from day 1 so im going to stick to it, will this PSU work for me??? -
I have bothers you all many times and now i have a Final question, hopefully my next thread will be my install. it was decided that i would go ahead with dbm-24vd's for my entire setup. So i ordered one and i gave it a try, and i found that i have little to no light in my showroom and this camera will not function for me. So i called the supplier i purchased the test unit from and they suggested the following. INITIAL CAMERA WHICH I DECIDED http://www.cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=1067 SUGGESTED CAMERAS DUE TO LITTLE TO NO LIGHT http://www.cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=1166 http://www.cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=1165 I tested the DBM-24VD on my QVIS and i LOVED IT. So i want to stay within the CNB brand due to accessibility, quality, and reasonable price point for 16 cameras. Unfortunately time is of a factor here, so the sooner i can get an answer the better it is for my situation. As always, thanks ahead of time.

So long story short i cant go wrong with either camera suggested to me?

Looking for an outdoor camera for our cold winters.
ulterior_motive posted a topic in Security Cameras
Alright peoples, one more camera question. Looking for a good outdoor camera to overlook a large parking lot. The parking lot is fairly lit at nights with large towers. Not looking for a PTZ. I spoke to somebody and this was recommended to me. Everfocus EHD525 http://everfocus.com/product.cfm?productid=32 Do you guys have any suggestions? My indoor cameras are all going to be CNB-24VD I would have loved to stick with that CNB theme. Side note, my winters hit -20F to -40F -

Ok, so, what i am purchasing is a 1 X DVR APOLLO HD PRO 16 CHANNEL 30FPS PER CHANNEL @ D1 http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=26585 http://www.qvissecurity.com/Catalogue/DVR/Apollo-HD-Pro/16-Channel/HD-Pro-16-Channel-4TB-HD-PRO16-4TB-N 16 X CAMERAS CNB VCM-24VF http://www.cctvforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=26690 http://www.cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=1073 The longest run is going to be 105 to 120 feet, Will running Siamese copper cable be ok for this run? do i need any baluns? i was debating if i wanted a PTZ camera, but i think cost is going to be an issue, it will most likely be a CNB PTZ camera. Is it just direct plug and play with this DVR? do i need a seperate PTZ controller? AND i will be buying a seperate fuse box power supply to power all these cameras. I'm guessing a UPC backup will be key also. I'm just looking to finalize everything so i don't run into any surprises. -

Need help making Camera decisions for a 16 channel DVR
ulterior_motive posted a topic in Security Cameras
Hello everybody, i harassed members of the Geovision forums viewtopic.php?f=36&t=26664 and the standalone DVR forums viewtopic.php?f=3&t=26585 and i came to a consensus, im going with a DAHUA QVIS 16 channel D1 30fps And now, i need cameras. The store dimensions are very basic, Rectangle, 20' x 60' x 11' ceiling. Lighting during the day is very optimal, its a combination of metal halides and fluorescent. The metal halides are 4000k and florescents are 5000k or 5200k. I need atleast 8 - 10 cameras for my showroom and the rest i will use in the back and HOPEFULLY 1 PTZ on the roof, and i don't know where to begin. What i have now are IR bullet camers, but really low end, about 40 dollar each and they suck. (it was a package, we were suckered, plus this was 4 years ago) When looking for a camera, what am i looking for specificly? The way i thought about it, is that, if its 20' x 60', i will put: - 4 on one side, - 4 on the other, - 2 at the back half overlooking the front? - 2 in the front half overlooking the back? I would love it if they were dome cameras, that way i can put them right into the drop ceiling and it will look really nice and low profile, but i was thinking because of the height, i will only see the top of peoples heads, im stumped. I will be putting a camera for people walking into the store, so even if i only see the top of there heads, i still have a image of there face. and if they cover there face walking in, one of the 12 camera should catch a glimpse of there face. any suggestions people? any camera ideas? I want to take advantage of the D1 quality of the DVR. -
Opinion on 16channel system, seasoned members help please
ulterior_motive posted a topic in Digital Video Recorders
Hey, ive been visiting this website for a long time, been a member over a year, and finally need help. I have had 2 geovision surveillance systems, and want to stay away from computer controlled systems. I am upgrading my current system, cameras and all. I need a -16 channel dvr. -16 camera infrared, wide angles prefered but not mandatory, clear enough to make out faces. -1 MONTH RECORDING -PTZ option preferred but not mandatory. Ive been looking at the samsung 16 channel SDE-5002N, the only flaw i see in that is i don't think i can add different cameras to that unit, and if samsung decides to drop the surveillance sector, then I'm screwed. I cant find any stills or live feeds for that specific unit. I'm just Future proofing my investment. I found a local guy here in Canada and hes pushing a av tech surveillance unit down my throat. http://avtech.com.ph/home/products/digital-video-recorder-3/h264-dvr/avc798b/ I did research on this brand and i found out that its just rebranded mass production gear. Mainly what I'm looking for is the seasoned members to give me a path to brands i should look for for dvr's, or specific dvr's that i should look for. Some camera brands? -

Need help piecing my entire surveillance system
ulterior_motive replied to ulterior_motive's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I love electronics, so i thought i could handle this. I build and repair computers on the side for family and friends. This is my first ever attempt at anything CCTV related. So i thought how hard could it be. It was a little complicating at first, but everybody on these forums is so helpful, i got through it and the grass is starting to look green on the other side. Ive been reading about that on the forums, people mention it but they dont explain as to why 24 volt PSU would be better for longer runs. I know there is video loss over distance, but i never new there was power loss over distance. What would happen to the shorter runs if I'm running 24 volt into a 12 volt camera? wouldn't it overheat? My shortest run is going to be 15 - 20 feet. Do i need to put a voltage regulator on the camera end to bring the voltage back down to 12 volt? And i had a question regarding BNC connectors, Our oldest VHS surveillance unit which has long since retired had used twist on BNC connectors. My latest surveillance unit had crimp on BNC, and the installer sucked (i guess that's why they're out of business). I started experiencing signal loss at my key cameras and i diagnosed it at the crimp on BNC connectors, so i put on twist on F type connectors and F type to BNC adapter. I know its pretty hack that way, but at such short notice with whatever tools i could find, you gotta do what you gotta do. What do you guys suggest i use? -

is CNB the manufacturer and Reseller? or are they just the manufacturer? ignore this question, Ive been researching and i'm quite fond of what i see with CNB, now i have to go see these live. I also downloaded a program that one of the partners here makes and that's helping me out big time. If only i can figure out how to use the 3d placement of cameras works. Once i got that, then i'm answering all my own questions. -

Help, Current Q3/2011 Geovision capture card differences
ulterior_motive posted a topic in Geovision
I have had experience with Geovision, From my GV800 to my GV600, and now its time for an upgrade. I was thinking maybe a standalone DVR unit, but every corner i turn, i am stonewalled. So i said i might as well stick to what i know best and that's computers and GEOVISION capture cards. So now, I'm looking at the current lineup of cards, and i cant figure out which ones are good for me. I need minimum 12 cameras in my store, so i was thinking a 16 camera configuration would be ideal, which give me enough empty slots to add more later. MAIN NEEDS RESOLUTION Every company gives out these letters and numbers, D1, CIF, 4CIF. I just want to see faces when a customer walks in, or steals from me FPS I need minimum 30fps per channel at the resolution that i am looking for. And I'm assuming that the software hasn't changed much in the sense that they wouldn't take out any useful options that I've grown accustomed to over the years. AND last but not least, off site monitoring, It's been a pain in the rear with the old software that my capture card supported, hopefully they updated the program. So, any help will be appreciated GREATLY. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read. -
