I have been using ViewLog with success. I had a little bit of confusion when recording continuously and marking motion events on how to review the video by the motion event...syslog viewer. I have another question.. In the database folder where the .mdb files are kept there are 2 types of files sys*.mdb and pos*.mdb. Is the pos files related to the POS functionality of the software? If so if there any way to have the software not create the pos*.mdb file? Each one is about 2MB and I am not using the POS functionality of this system.

We have used the 9760 in may cases. It allows up the coax control to pass by the loop thru and also 485 inputs to work at the same time. -

Panasonic uses Milestone. They used to have a single camera demo for free. http://www.milestonesys.com/?cid=974 -
Low Profile DVR card needed.

I figured that would be the case. I have done some searching on Google but no luck. I was given a small form factor PC with a P4 2.8Ghz processor and 512 MB of ram. I was thinking I could put it to good use. -
RS-485 cable for Panasonic System Controller (WV-CU360C)
Bob replied to G22's topic in General Analog CCTV Discussion
Panasonic uses a wierd pin configuration in the 6 pin copnnectors. Holding the connector with the wire out of the bottom and the gold contacts facing you ,left to right are pins 1 thru 6. Skip pin 1 and make 2 and 3 a pair, make 4 and 5 a pair 6, I think is unused also. As long as you wire them straight thru you should be good to go. Use CAT5 cable. -
The Software (I believe) is WV-AS50. It can be used to remotely access the files on the HD-500. You would have to go through a dealer to get it. The DVR has a browser based interface built in. Program the unit with a static IP and you're in. The only downside is that you have to have the external CD or DVD drive to save video without the software. The latest similar PN is WV-AS65 for the HD300 series. I'm not sure if it is backwards compatible with the HD500.

WOW! I really thought that some of the members would be using crimp connectors. I'm suprised. We use Crimps all the way.

Integral technologies makes a DVXi model that can do 32 cameras. We have installed several DVX and DVXi systems and they are very reliable. Need to get them through a dealer though. I think the PN is DVXi XM32 for the 32 channel unit.

I would wait for the 484 equivalent to come out. The night capabilities of the SDIII chip and the auto backfocus have blown away the 464 and 474 series of cameras from panasonic.

these units are known for heat issues which shorten the hard drive life. We have installed a few of these units in the past when they were new and found that the drives only lasted for a year of so. Even panasonic tech support claims that this was normal. It was a very good unit for its day and for $700 I guess it's not a bad deal. Would I use it, probably not. I would go for a HD220 or even a HD300 Series if your looking for reliability. Also the newer units have better video clip export capabilities using a networked PC and a web browser.
