does it work when you use the local ip of the dvr? how are you connecting your remote client to the network? wired or wireless check your router/firewall settings and make sure LAN to (WAN/WLAN) traffic is enabled i had the same problem with sonicwall routers; the necessary traffic was disabled by default in the firewall access rules
