I have narrowed it down to the "DSP Overlay" check box within GeoVision configuration. If I leave this configuration unchecked, I can take remote control of the Geo box, the release control and the Geo box continues to have "good" video display. If I do the same thing with DSP Overlay enabled, when I release remote contol, the video of the Geo box gets buggered up. Anyone else seen this? Any workaround? The DSP Overlay makes the video look so much nicer.

I too am a discouraged Treo 650 owner/user. The Treo 650 has nice screen resolution (better than the 700), but displaying e-mailed snapshops is about the best you can hope for.

Scott, I too would like to see the demo link. I have a similiar situation, but have only really looked at these bullet camera's: KT&C's KC-N600H http://www.ktncusa.com/ Is what your suggesting comperable (ignoring the IR part)? All - I was thinking about multiple bullets around the house eaves, but multiple domes might be a better idea. Comments? Steve

Geo's website answer is not to helpful. No serial ports on the motherboad, no more internal PCI slots left open. Thanks!

Update: The "ModemBlaster" USB modem (available through Best Buy) does indeed work with Geovison. No special modem setup is needed (just standard Win XP install). Once Geo is configured; upon motion detection (or other defined instances), Geo dials out via the USB modem and plays the selected wave file.

Been there, done that. It's already over, now just end it decently (salt in the wound will not make anyone feel better). Book is right.

Has anyone found a an external "USB" connector modem that works with the Geo voice notification? Damn new computer does NOT come with a serial port. I have tried a USB to serial adapter, but they are known to be flaky (and my older Rockwell Sportser dials out, but doesn't connect to data or voice calls). Rockwell support ran into a dead end.

Man.....that was indeed a shame. All for what....maybe a few lousy dollars. Only small light spot is that they will likley catch that fellow with your video and fry his ASS! (that is what we would do in TX anyway).

Geovision automation question: I have a Geo 1240 card in a HP computer with only 3 PCI slots. The slots are now filled (Geo board, Video Card, and cheap PCI modem). I want to have the Geo-1240 control exterior flood lights based on camera motion etc. I guess I will need a Geo I/O box (external ??) and an external Geo RELAY box. The hard part is that my damn (new) computer does NOT have a serial port output. And, internal mounting of another card would be tight (I could throw out the internal modem and use an external). Would a USB to serial converter feed the external Geo I/O box? This box then controls the external relay box (right?). Please advise.

It is a BRAND NEW board. It only had 3 slots for expansion (all PCI). It has a lot of USB (2.0), fire wire and other connection options (I guess serial ports are kinda "old news" with respect to connecting periperials to computers these days). I have no problem with getting rid of the internal modem. That would free up 1 PCI slot. Anyway, I guess my main question is how to connect the 10 amp relay box to the PC. Using just the I/O box/card will not work for 120 VAC type devices (right???).

I happen to have a Geo system, but this option could work with any DVR system that allows for e-mail notification (with an attached picture). If you have RoadRunner and a Sprint or T-Mobil cell phone, this is how it can be done. Have the DVR send the e-mail (with picture attachment) to an e-mail address (where you get NOTHING ELSE). I would suggest that you set up a sub account; name it DVR MAIL for example. This sub account could be with RoadRunner or even on your phone. Next, get into the mail account options for "DVR MAIL" and do a simple "Forward All" mail rule. All mail should be forwarded to the instant messaging telephone number of where you want the instant (SMS like) alert to arrive. For me, I send them to 210XXXXXXX@sprintpcs.com or 210XXXXXXX@tmomail.com. While the instant messaging does NOT support the picture attachment, it does let you know that you have a camera/system alarm, and you have an e-mail (w/ pict) waiting to be downloaded. Other variations can be done, just look into what rules can be set up on your e-mail server. This is the poor mans SMS approach!

Does anyone have the settings to make an external Rockell Sportser Voice 56K modem (mid nineties vintage) work with Win XP and a GEO 1240 card? I do NOT have any of the software that might have came with it when it was new. After consulting the US Robotics support page: "http://www.usr.com/support/product-template.asp?prod=5685" I can get the modem installed and it does dial out (on command from Geo or manually), however, when I pick up the call, it does not recognize the pick-up, nor does it play the .wav, it just hangs up. I have recorded the wave file in the required format (it does playback when tested through the Geo menu). Am I missing some needed init string? Why doesn't it recognize when the call is pick-ed up? It almost seems like it is in data mode rather than in voice operation.

I have done a search, read the manuals and even consulted the Geo Support videos, but I can't seem to figure out the functionality of the two upper left most buttons on the GV IR Remote control. The button are labeled "Main System" and "ViewLog" (Damn, sounds simple enough). I do believe that I have the IR remote set up properly (I have the Supervisor account exported to the IR Remote). I guess that I expect the "Main System" button to either start the main system or at least switch it to the active window (if it is already open). Similarly, I expect the "ViewLog" button to open/Start the ViewLog or at least bring it to the active window if it is already open. Pressing either button with either application open/closed, or maximized or minimized has no effect. As far as I can tell, these two buttons do nothing. What am I doing wrong? What should these two buttons do? Smarty (who is NOT so smart!)

Yes, I installed the remote after the fact. Per ScottJ's instructions I unistalled and re-installed the main program (and also installed the IR remote). It now works as I would expect it to!!!! Thanks again ScottJ!!!! One last question.... The IR remote has 6 unmarked buttons up near the top of the remote. What are these for? Just extras? Can I program multi-step proccesses into them? Just curious, i have no real need for them yet. Smarty

I have succesfully installed my new Geo 1240 card. Everything works, and I am now trying to optimize the system for long term reliability/durability. I have read the posts about removing/locking out certain Windows (XP) processes etc. Thanks! they were super. ANYWAY my question deals with how to connect the two-wire watchdog that comes with the Geo card to the motherboard. In my PC, the reset button (two-wire), the power light and the harddisk light wires (7 wires total) go to a 8 pin block connector that attaches to the motherboad. This 8 pin block connector prevents the access to the two pins I want to connect the Geo card to. Any ideas? If I just remove the 8 pin connector block and connect to the Geo card, my reset button, and lights will not be connected (which might be OK, but it is not optimal). Suggestions?

I do not think you HAVE TO HAVE a cellular modem to send SMS messages. I have found that I can set up my Geo card to send an instant SMS text message via my RoadRunner (TimeWarner), or Sprint smtp mail server using the e-mail notiifcation built into the Geovision software. You just need to send the e-mail to the right addresss of the target telephone. For example, my Sprint Treo 650 phone email SMS address is: 210xxxxxxx@messaging.sprintpcs.com For a T-Moblie phone it would be: 210XXXXXXX@tmomail.net Hope this helps.

Folks, I am looking for some advise/useful comments on installing some COLOR outdoor camera's. Background info: New higher end house (South TX) to be pre-wired with RG59U siamese cable. All cabling to terminated in utility room where DVR and common camera power source to be installed. DVR will be 8 cam late model American Dynamics. Picture quality is a HUGE issue. If I can't make out the face or tag number, the system is worthless to me. Will the following cams and DVR get the job done? CONSIDERING: 1) Sanyo OnePak (VSEP2363HBSA) 520 TVL resolution or, 2) American Dynamics (CPAK04703) 470 TVL resolution or, 3) Combining a Sony (SSCDC374 TVL=480) w/ lens and H/B outdoor housing (Does Sony sell a "contactor pak" with this camera? Questions: A) Since the house will have outdoor motion sensor lighting, does the above plan seem to make sense? Am I missing something? B) Are there better value cam packages out there? It appears that the Sanyo's have a decent warranty, resolution and price. Any better values I should consider? C) What items are typically not included in a "contracter pak" that I will still need? I am wanting to be able to see faces or identify vehicles clearly enough so that I could give the recorded video to the police. I have seen a number of camera/computer/DVR solutions that really lack crisp clarity (admittedly they were NOT installed or spec'ed out by pros). The distances that I am looking for this claritiy is in the range of 20-35 feet (house or gate mounted cameras). The wider the field of view the better, but I would imagine wide view would come with some trade-offs. SPYTOWN/anyone else - what is the warranty on the camera you mentioned. What has been the track record of the manufacturer (decent quality or hit and miss). It looks like it might fit the bill nicely. Thanks, smarty in South Texas
