cmf - what cameras did you decide to go with?
-
Wow, I hate GE's website Anyone know of another website that sells these GE track cams? I want to price them out, the look is good.

I know a little bit about this one: 4) Built In Web Server - there is an option in the main GV program to turn on a web server. The web server runs on your pc and publishes a simple user interface and your camera feeds to the web. When I turned mine on the web server was being published from my pc's IP address. I then could access the web, enter in my IP address, and view my cameras remotely. There are some options the user interface lets you select like - compression type, single or multi window, take snapshot, etc. All in all the web interface is really simple but very functional, I like it. The hardest part of setting it up for me was forwarding ports on my router.

You can try to manually install the activex control. Someone created a program with two buttons that allows you to do this. I have it in my email but I'm not sure they want it redistributed without permission. Perhaps they'll visit this post and they can email it to you.

I'm trying to setup email notification (send a jpeg image) to my gmail account. So in the SMTP server settings I typed "smtp.gmail.com". When I test it, it can never connect to the SMTP server. Do I need to be using this SMTP server or the one from my ISP? Thanks

Email Notification

I currently don't use an email software client (I have outlook incase I need it). I use gmail exclusively and it is web based so no email client is required with gmail. Are you saying that I need to setup an email client to get this to work? Will all my gmail email go into this email client to be read now? I would prefer to still use gmail web based to read my email. Thanks! -
Help with Geovision software for remote view

Well, I tried the GeoFix executable and it didn't work I clicked it each button and it said, "ocx successfully registered" and "codec successfully registered". Started up IE and went to my IP address, I can get through the first 2 screens. I select "mpeg view" and then Cable/DSL 1 window. On the last screen it still says "activex downloading please refresh". Should I give up on this and try JPEG view? Currently that option is not enabled. -

I'm using IE. I think they block activex like you said. Where can these activex controls on a CD be found? -

scottj helped me test my geovision tcp and web server last night. We had to open alot of ports and I had to turn off my XP firewall before it started working. My question is how safe is it to open all these ports and turn off my firewall? I am now more vunerable to hacks since these ports are now open and I'm running a web server? Thanks -

Ok, so I turned on the TCP server in GV-system. I then went into my router and on 192.168.1.100 I forwarded port 3550 TCP. ON THE SAME COMPUTER - I then launched the multiview remote cam program and successfully connected to my camera using IP address 192.168.1.100. Does the above verify that I have correctly setup remote viewing? If I test at work (assuming I can install the mutlicam prog) I would then replace my internal IP of 192.168.1.100 with my cable modems IP, right? -

I don't think I have a VIA chipset. My motherboard is an Asus A87NX deluxe or something like that and I think it is a Nvidia chipset. So to remote view I need the GV800 main program running on my home pc with the settings for TCP or Web server setup? What program allows me to remote view?
