What about combining two or three of the remaining pairs to run the power through? I would prefer to only have to fish the Cat5e throughout the house.

I agree that the "CCTV in a box" offers will not meet my needs. I am looking for components that will fit my specific needs. However I do need the details to determine what will work and what won't. I have read about too many instances where people have wasted there money on components that don't work together or in the environment needed. Specifically I am concerned about the power supply requirements to power an IR camera over the distance using cat5e.
  4. Hello, Can I get some suggestions on CCTV components? I would like to have a stand alone DVR setup with eight IR cameras for outdoor home use being able to see minimum 50ft at night. The cable runs from the cameras to the DVR would be 500-750ft long approximately. I am cost conscience and looking for the best value in making my decisions. That being said I have seen an extremely large market of components and would like to know what is suggested by users of the components rather than the sales / technical staff of the manufacturers. Some questions are….. 1) DVR (H.264 compression? / 240 FPS recording?) 2) Cameras (480 min TV lines? / min LED’s? / Auto-Iris?) 3) Power supply (24VAC? / min Amps?) 4) Cables (Cat5 w/ passive baluns?) Recommendations of any brands or model numbers for the component would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
