    lens - DC and ESC

I have done quite a bit of searching and haven't come up with any good explanations of what they do and why one would be preferred over the other in different settings. Would someone care to talk about the two. My interest stems from a camera (vbm-24vf) placed in a shadow looking into a sunny spot. It looks better in daylight with the DC brightness turned down a bit but if it is turned down a couple clicks past default the camera won't switch back from B&W at night to day. I haven't tried ESC mode yet..... thought I would ask before wearing my screws out Thanks
  2. Thank you for the reply's. I had read that about the switch so I was up to date on that...but thanks anyway. Also, It was outputting fine and went blank all of the sudden when I connected an external IR light that wasn't a part of or connected to the DRV but shared a camera receptacle. Odd, but maybe coincidence. After it went out I fed that camera straight to a monitor and it was fine. Out of warranty also so I just took it to a local IT guy to look over. If he can't fix it it'll go in the trash unless someone wants it for some reason for parts or something.
  3. My avermedia 1304 SATA took a dump on video out so it's going back for inspection. Didn't want to be without one so I bought a Avermedia eh1004h today and purchased this hard drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136797 My first HDD was pre-installed so I was just wondering if someone could confirm this is a fit. Thanks

Advice needed for low light application

I had one of my CNB cams fog this fall so I took the dome apart and cleaned everything and put surefire oring lube on the rubbers then put it back together. No more fog at all.
  5. Well I finally hit enough buttons that I found out you have to hit the "archive" button on the right side before it will show. Guess they left that little nugget out of the instructions.
  6. I've had this 1304 for about 8 months and had no problems with it. I decided to install the playback console on my pc and play with it. I can do a back up on a FAT32 flashdrive and I get the files with the console on the flashdrive. When I open the console from the flashdrive it opens but nothing is playing. It's just a blank screen and the "open files" button will not highlight. I can open the downloaded console from my pc and click on the open files button and tell it to look at the flashdrive. Then a reddish screen will appear in the console with the channel squares and a small blank screen in the middle of that but again nothing plays. My PC is NTfC ...is this the problem? I really don't want to format and reinstall my entire computer in FAT32. I have to go out of state for work for a bit but I'll check in and try any ideas when I get home. Thanks for reading, Warren M **** Edit ** My operating system is Windows xp pro.
  7. Can't seem to find a store with them. Thanks

    That's understandable. Thanks Soundy.

    lens - DC and ESC

Is DC default because it is generally better then ESC... or when would someone want ESC. I couldn't tell the difference in them but haven't tried it over a 24 hour period to see all light levels. Thanks.

    Bought another Monalisa

Working out fine. I have this one on the east side of my house where the driveway is. When evening comes I have a deep shadow on part of the driveway from the house and the rest of the (rock) drive looks like it is glowing. I turned the Lens - DC - Brightness down to about 4 and the SBLC up to medium and it seemed to help out. Also turned Color controls down also for a better look. Any other ideas that could blend it a bit better without adverse effects when it switches to night mode? ......I'm concerned about turning the DC Brightness down but will check the effect tonight.

    Bought another Monalisa

Bought a vbm-24vf and they sent a free MG Electronics (MGT2420) 24vac 20va power supply with it. I have been using 12v regulators for each camera and was planning the same but after reading some I am thinking I can hook up both my VCM and VBM on this one power supply....? Is this correct? Never messed with 24v and wanted to make sure. Thanks Warren

Thanks Soundy. I'm using good rg59 Siamese at 60 feet each so there not long runs.

    CNB motion detection feature?

Well, I was playing around and could not set each zone "sensitivity" separate of each other so I wanted to clear that up.......unless I'm doing something wrong. When you change sensitivity it changes all.

    CNB motion detection feature?

What the camera sees in cut into 4 quarters. You can adjust the size of each corner, length and height, and set that area sensitivity higher or lower. So I have a tree branch in the upper left corner. I stretched that corner to capture all the tree limb then adjusted the sensitivity down to 1.

    CNB motion detection feature?

No you can't see the box after you leave the menu hookup.

    CNB motion detection feature?

On my vcm-24vf I can have a tree limb in the upper left corner that blows around setting on the motion record. So on the camera menu I can set the left zone height and width to cover the limb then turn down the motion sense level on that zone lower then I can on my DVR so it doesn't set off the motion record.... kind of like privacy zone. Is this what you meant?

    V2265nvf

It actually looks clean and bright at night time with external IR or ambient light but it does have the trade off of a bit of blur on quick moving objects. I'm going to play with it tonight and get a happy medium with light and blur. For what I paid for it I'm happy so far. One question on the 3rd connection plug (Pelco I think) ......If I never have an intention of using it could I cut off the big plug and tape the wires? Just another object I have to try to fit through a small hole in the wall.

Got one of these at under half price from an installer who is upgrading a client. Anyone used one? or how do you think it will compare in lowlight to my vcm-24vf? Also, how come it pulls "500ma max" since it has no IR...is it the WDR or the 3x zoom which I will never use. Scanning Frequency(V) 59.94Hz Image Sensor 1/3" SONY Double Scan CCD Sync. Well I tried the camera out. At first was not happy with low light performance but I started messing around and changed the "Max Fls Set" from 2 up to 10 and it gained a lot of light ...more then my monalisa. Through searching I am assuming "Max Field Set" 1-20fld, 40, 80, 160fld is slowing down my shutter speed (DSS).....is this correct? ALso can anyone tell me what is "Filter Delay" or what it does in the D-N menu? It goes from 0 to 15 seconds. I also turned Backlight on and it helped brighten it up. Turning WDR on or off didn't really matter at night. I'll play with it more during daylight. Thanks for any replies.

    CNB VBM-24VF

In my limited experience the pluses of not having built in IR is you don't have spiders building webs on your camera for the heat I guess. You don't have bugs flying around your IR light - Both of which are continually setting off motion detection. On the two cameras I bought with built in IR I have a bright center where the IR points and dark on the edges. The Monalisa only takes a little ambient light to get a full screen nice clear picture (like a 5 watt bulb...I have a 7.5 "walkway" bulb in my back porch globe and it is too bright) I don't even need this to see someone but it is enough light to take the noise out of the picture and give a crisp image. The green plug in the above picture is your power. It has two set screws for hold your wires in. I don't see why you couldn't mount it on a wall above a door. The VBM is recessed and the VCM has a surface mount bracket included. Hope this helps.

    Camera Questions from a Novice

I'm a novice also but can share my experience. After buying two cameras with fixed lens and built in IR I found out: Low res camera looked better and picked up low light better at night (these are not ICR) I then read more and found ICR is recommended for better night pics which is what I wanted so I went with Soundys advice and bought a Monolisa vcm-24vf which does not have built in IR. I had a 25 watt bulb in my back porch and it was too bright, I bought a 15 watt and it was too bright. I saw a 7 watt little bitty walk way bulb and thought What the heck I'll try it thinking it would be too dim. It was also almost too bright in the camera but it actually hard to tell it is on outside. I took aluminum foil and put it in half the porch light globe directing the light further out into the driveway and it is great. Actually hard to believe- I've walked back and forth from the porch to my monitor shaking my head in disbelief. The plus of this is NO spiders building webs on the built in IR setting off motion detection - NO bugs flying around built in IR setting off motion. and a full screen bright picture instead of a bright center where the IR is and dark on the edges. I don't have near enough experience to say built in IR cameras couldn't do this but I am sold on the Dome Monolisa with external light. Also I doubt I will buy a fixed lens again simply because I like the adjustment range with limited experience. Hope this helped.
  25. Hello all, I'm getting my feet wet with a new Avermedia 1304net and I bought two bullet cameras. I thought I would buy one high res and one low res so I could see the how they compared. The Hig res CNB-B1760N-4.3 looks better in the day then the low res CNB-B1750N-4.3 BUT the Low res stays in color longer when the sun is going down, picks up ambient light better, and starts looking better then the high res in low light. When it gets dark the Low res actually picks up the IR better and looks brighter and appears to have less "noise" then the High res. Is this normal? Would a 6mm High res look better? Thanks for any insight as I am still reading and learning.
