Sentient PVR access via the internet not working
dave4e replied to dominovision's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Hi All you also have to port forward the media port to make this work over the internet. I was having exactly the same problem, i could get the log in screen over the internet but loggin failure. I set up my router to port forward port 9000 and it works fine now. I use a 3g dongle when out and about and it works fine. Dave -
Hi Phil In the menu, under Network, DDNS set to off. Dave

Hi Ella Ive had this system for a few months now, and despite problems setting it up on the internet, mainly due to the fact that id not tried anything like that before, i have found the system to be perfect for my needs, I have even caught a potential Burglar with it, Twice!! The Police were able to identify the chap and comented on how good the picture quality was. I also have Talk Talk but have a dynamic IP and use dynDNS with an update client running on my home PC. The update client in the DVR does not work very well with dynDNS..? Currently i have it running at Highest resolution, and the picture quality over the interrnet is the same as the quality when viewed over my LAN at home. You can also download from the DVR over the internet so the file quality is the same as when viewed on the DVR. I use a 3G connection when travelling for work without problems. The translation into English of the manual is a bit poor, but there are plenty of forums like this one where help is avaliable. Hope this helps.. If you decide to purchase and need any help with set up drop me a message via this page. Regards Dave

Hi all I managed to get an e-mail from Maplin and from CnM who sent me the following, Im still trying to figure out what it means, has anyone any ideas? DVR SETUP FOR WEB ACCESS On the DVR set the following IP ADDRESS 192.168.X.X SUBNET MASK 255.255.255.0 GATEWAY 192.168.X.X PORT 9000 FOR MEDIA PORT 80 FOR ACCESS RESTART DVR TO SAVE SETTINGS ON THE ROUTER EXCLUDE THE DVR IP ADDRESS FROM DHCP RANGE MAKE A RESERVATION TO GIVE THE DVR MAC ADDRESS TO THE IP ADRRESS OF THE DVR. MAKE SURE ROUTER ISNT HOSTING PORT 80 FOR INTERNET ACCESS.IF IT IS ONLY CHANGE THE ROUTER PORT FOR INTERNET ACESS NOT THE DVR PORT. FIREWALL SETTINGS SHOULD BE SET FOR PORT 9000 AND 80 TO BE FORWARDED TO THE LOCAL IP. FORWARDING TO ANY IP ON THE NETWORK CANNOT BE USED. APPLY SETTINGS AND RESTART ROUTER. SET THE ADMIN AND USER ACCOUNTS AND PASSWORDS ON THE DVR CHECK LOCALLY AND THEN THE INTERNET FOR DVR ACCESS. USE A PORT SCANNING TOOL TO SEE IF PORT 9000/80 IS BEING USED IF PROBLEMATIC. SOME ISP BLACKLIST SUCH AS VIRGIN, TISCALI AND TALK TALK.

Hi adsy2010 Ru connecting to the DVR via your router? Before I set mine up on my network, i just had it as a stand alone machine, with its own screen, i set it to record in 15min long files and set the motion detection Alarm, so if i suspected anyone about the house then i could review the alarmed files and as they were only 15mins long then the file size was small, these could easily be selected and backed up to a usb stick, then copied to another machine, burned to disk, converted to other formats and of course given to the local Police, I was also able to Grab some frames and print stills of the culprit... which model DVR have you got? Ive already caught some guy trying to get in my Garage, Twice, If you are having problems with an intruder and you plan to give the files / pictures to the police make sure you have signs up warning that CCTV is in operation. I bough some from Screwfix for a few quid. Regards Dave

Hi Richard Ive done almost exactly as you have, and my router is the same, Today ive changed router to my Netgear DG834, and its still the same, unable to log in over the WAN. LAN is ok. Ive e-mailed maplin and Talk Talk. Regards Dave

Hi I have the same DVR, to playback i use windows media player, but first you have to convert the files from H264 to AVI, the software is avaliable on the maplin page as a link http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=350932. This convert the files to AVI and should play on windows media player, if not then you might be prompted to download a codec, i used FFDS http://free-codecs.com/download/FFDShow.htm and it plays ok. I also back up using a usb stick, if you go to the search page on the dvr you can select the files you want to back up, i have set my DVR to record 15min files so that they are not too obig and can easily be scanned and also have set motion detection so for the most time i can ignore all files execpt the ones where the motion detection was active. Also if you look at the file that is backed up to the USB stick, the file name contains the date and time and camera number etc. Hope this helps, Im still playing about with this to view over the internet, nearly there, have never tried to do this before but this and other forums have been a great help Dave

Hi All Has anyone successfully connected to this DVR over the Internet. Ive had it a few months now and have already caught a potential Burglar, twice, smae guy, Dum... Setting up to view over my wireless LAN was no problem, Ive just set up Port forwarding and all that and can access the Login Page from outside my network, but when i enter the password it give me the message , Login Failed, this is the same for the ADMIN password and if the login page is set to LAN or INTERNET. Have also set up dynDNS which was a nightmare of Jargon if you have never done it before, but possible as there are many forums and blogs etc.. Dave
