Hi all, Im having strange intermittent problem with 2 cameras: its in shop, 2 cameras far apart run on cat5 with baluns to DVR. Once premises lights go off typically after 18.00 - cameras start to show bad interference, during 18.00 - 09.00 hours it will show good pictures again for short time and then by 09.00 its bad again, lights gets switch on just after 09.00am and cameras start to show good pictures. I think the point im making is the pictures goes bad only when light is reduced. Is there anything i need adjust on cameras? I also suspect problem with baluns? Any info would be great! Thanks

Im big fan of WD HDDs and been using Green and Black Caviar 2TB for 2 years. I been building custom PC based DVRs for few years using same software. I decided to try new WD model, so purchased 6 of WD20EURS (AV-GP) http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=150 I thought they sound great: for DVRs 24x7 reliability! So i upgraded 2 existing Windows 7 based DVRs. After 1 month myself and customers noticed that when you view CCTV recordings, some dates, the recordings playback skips by 40 seconds and very slow access time, 10-15 minutes waiting for recordings to load. Called WD support, their technician told me i should not be using AV and go back to Caviar Black. Anyone else out there?

AF tool only required to be run on Windows XP. Windows 7 can handle 2TB drives without use of AF tool. I will check TLER out of interest. Thanks -
Western Digital AV HDDs, serious problems

I have a pre-buyout Hitachi 2TB drive, and on a couple of occasions I have experienced symptoms similar to yours. In both cases the problem turned out to be a bad block on the HD. Normally there are enough "spare" blocks on the disk that the firmware in the HD can remap the bad ones automagically. However, once you run out of those built-in spares, you have to map out any additional bad blocks yourself. My system is Linux-based, so all I had to do to fix the problem was force an fsck and reboot. Dunno how you would accomplish that under Windows 7, but I'm sure someone else can advise you on that. HTH. my issue was on all 6 HDDs, it would be ultimate bad luck if i was to have faults on all. Never the less of course i run chkdsk, there are no faults found and windows logs looked clean too. -
Coax cable with soft center core help
vadimo replied to vadimo's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Yes. Sounds like Belden 8279 http://www.belden.com/techdatas/metric/8279.pdf Jacket should be marked. You will need the correct BNC connector. 8279 is slightly smaller than 59 and has a clear-milky dielectric as well as a stranded center conductor. thanks i will make note of this -
i have come across what looks like standard RG59 cable but with one differences, the center core is soft made out of strings of copper. I tried to crimp it with my standard RG59 BNC Male connectors and crimp tool but found that center pin can come off with little force. I wasted 10 crimps and tried cutting the inner insulation as clean as possible (without loosing any strings of center core) but made no diffrence. Is there a spicific type of BNC connectors to suit this cable? Thanks

Coax cable with soft center core help
vadimo replied to vadimo's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
The cable could also be URM70, still 75ohm but very slightly smaller than standard RG59 and with a stranded centre core. With quality cable it delivers around 3dB/100m loss at 5MHz Ilkie ahh i see, i did google based on name you gave so here some BNCs http://www.qedltd.co/products/RG59%252dURM70-Male-Bnc-Crimp-(Bagged).html Looks like hard to get them, but i will try thank you -

i can say that Green Caviar been 2TB been working well for me in last 1 year since i started using them. Having said that there has been couple faulty ones but hey they are well priced for what they are. As for Blue Caviar - im staying clear off them, they are too weak in perforamnces. The way i see is a lot depends on what software you use (the way it write/read), compression, fps, number of channels and what recording mode: motion only or continues..... As for my AV drives problem, WD are miss represeting them in media. I will fight WD to get my money back! -

Toshiba IK-WB15A components heat problem
vadimo posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I have about 12 x IK-WB15A installed. After 2 years i re-visited site and now see that most of the cameras have diffect: on inside of clear bubble plastic cover there is like a patch of smudge, its not dust! I noticed the patch is only where the lense and cut section seat in home position, i can only think that its the heat comming from the solid state components and exiting via lense cut section on to the bubble cover Problem i have is you cant take these cameras apart, 2 pcbs seat on top plus all the moving parts inside, i cant even twist the bubble. Anyone else has such problem? PS: they are powered using supplied PSUs not via PoE switch Thanks -
