  1. all out of ideas here, mobile phone app says unable to connect to server. on the pc, under management "server access", the local port is set to 83 and then internet port is 8081. I have opened (inbound) ports on windows 83,8081 I am assuming the details for the app is the external IP on . .. google + port 8081 the user name and password is what I have set up in basic user in milestone, under mobile server credentials the server URL is the IP in the server access followed by :83 again, username and password is the one created on the user section (its not a windows one) perhaps buellwinkle might confirm, but am I right in thinking that if I have all working on the "xprotect web client" working on other pcs/laptops in the house, then the problem must be the router no?
  2. would changing from the port from 80 to say 85 work?
  3. just got it working for other pcs/laptops on the router (inside the house like) now just to get my mobile app working and im there

  5. PC parts bought and put together. all set up, ready to go. I5 4670K kinda narrowed it down to a few cams, but first a switch question. im going to start off with one cam, and if i like it i will buy another and build my way up to 7 or 8. 2 questions i have is, I see some switches with 8 ports, but only 4 POE, am i correct in assuming youd need to look after your own power for the 4 ports without POE (to power the cams) and if so, are you better then to go for a switch with all 8 ports POE or go for 8 standard ports and keep power supply to cams seperate (dont think id like to do this though) any recommendations for 8-12 port with all POE switch? . max id have is 10 cams, . . min 6. 1-3mp cams
  6. something like this perhaps buellwinkle? http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/48V-0-5A-Power-Adapter-Wall-Plug-PoE-Injector-Free-Shipping/502910_732184560.html just looking at that wall plug, I thought it would say data in+power. . and then the other side data out.? except its data + power out. . . I take it the camera goes to the Data + power out, and the lan cable to the PC goes in the other one? yes, I can see how this little device could be handy, only €9 shipped to Ireland

  9. what's the best version of windows to use, 7 or 8 , would 7 be more stable,
  10. going buying an NVR, and have seen some concerns about built in POE cameras dropping out. does a Switch work better?
  11. I'm using a 1st gen i3 with 8 cameras (5 3MP, 1 3MP, 2 1.3MP), runs about 20% busy, so an i5 would be more than enough. If you are buying new, have you thought of a getting a server? The Dell T20 Poweredge server with a Xeon E3-1225, 1TB drive, 6 drive bays, 4GB RAM is $499. Having a Xeon processor has more bragging rights than consumer Intel i5/i7, LOL. The problem with desktop PC's for the consumer market is running them 24/7 at high loads may lower it's life expectancy. well, i see where your coming from, while i havent any CCTV yet, never installed one, i am good at computers etc. While i read and know how nvrs work, and now how a pc based system would work. I ask how would a server work, ok the poe switch is directed towards the T20, and I can use my tablet or laptop for the viewing of the cams, is the xprojectgo downloaded and running on the server? it certainly would be more robust and probably more suited to the job than a std pc. but in ireland look at the prices of a T20, which you quoted above. http://www.dell.com/ie/business/p/poweredge-t20/fs i think the one you mentioned is 3rd over, pricey enough when you add 23% VAT. which would be €564 delievered to me http://www.dell.com/ie/p/desktops?~ck=mn#!facets=40186~0~3778514&p=1&overrides= New Inspiron 3000 this I5 comes in at €600 all charges and delivery. Seriously thinking (looking at some of the prices mentioned here, id be better of building it). . id easily do it, with the support thats on offer here. and most people here are quoting $. . . at todays rate that $818 for the above I5 ya, best stay away from Dell, and start breaking down a list of parts that i need. nice few websites over here, and i know theres one in Germany that a lot of Irish buy from for PC parts. great feed back lads, keep it coming, but i guess you will be telling go build with these prices Cheers Pip
  12. would like to start at 2.8, as im using it for home cctv, and just need roughly 10meters out from the house.
  13. would an i5 do 8 1.3/3mp cameras on milestone xproject go? or would an i7 be more efficient on resources plus I'd be future proofing it.
  14. you got me thinking today, ive been reading up on IP cams and NVRs for weeks, now im reading up on PCs, I think what i should do, is order a camera, and have a pay with it on some of the software you mentioned on my existing pc. then take it from there, its hard to determine what pc spec is enough for your cameras, is it the camera or is it the software that you use that determines the performance of the pc that you need? in the 4/5 hours of reading to day, id say i could get a good system for cheaper than an nvr, and it would be a better system, and more open for upgrades etc.
  15. I was looking at that, Building my own nvr. but thought it a step too far, wonder is their any thread here about doing this? whats needed etc. . ill have 8 2/3 mp cams recording at 15fps. will probably be only able to record at 1080 looking at some nvrs with 8 cams
  16. i remember in the past when looking in to this i seen where you could have over spec'd cameras and not having the nvr to do the work etc. . . and I recall it was a recording issue and if i can remember correctly, it was rendering 8 3mp cams useless and should only go for 1.3mp (maybe the spec for the nvr was low, i cant remember. I am looking at Hik 3mp cams DS-2CD2032-I, and have sourced an nvr below. http://dsdsecurity.en.alibaba.com/product/1557934185-220820774/Alibaba_Recommend_16CH_H_264_Standalone_NVR_With_8CH_PoE.html can anyone tell me if ill have any short comings with this set NVR? at the moment i can only see a max of 8 cams eventually, but i was thinking of future proofing the nvr by going 16ch. all i need to inlcude in this is a hard-drive and im up and running? regards, pip
  17. on aliexpress for say 1 camera, I don't want too cheap, but yet don't want to pay over the top I notice here almost everyone has bought something on this site, but never mention their experience ? ? its not as if your promoting it if you just bought something on it. . would it not be better if people shared experience so that hopefully nobody will get stung
  18. not tied, nothing bought yet. I need a 3.6mm lens I was aiming to go with the dahua as its the most talked about. has to be IP, not HD, I'll look at Costco again and report back
  19. geese, you see I can see how u can get caught, , , so many suppliers on there, , , but I do believe there is a circle of good suppliers, which seems to be a secret or something on this forum.
  20. ok lads and ladies, I have got to do this. . .ive heard of prowlers back my 500 meter long avenue to my house and i have nothing security wise.. . alarm, no. . i want to see when something happens. or i have a visitor. money. well. . for the cameras max $300 each, for the nvr max $500/$600 ive been in and out looking on this for a few yrs. learning etc. . . like a lot, ive been watching tennis between analogue and IP. . . and well, im going with IP. . you have to really.. . for the obvious reasons. its clear im going IP. as thers a cost involved, im going to get a good 16 channel NVR. . and for starters 1 or max 2 cameras. . . mainly cause i noticed here a lot of good people in the know keep saying, buy 1 or 2 , .. who knows, maybe you will want a 3.6 or a 6mm lens or a PTZ or need some other requirement etc. . if u buy all 8 now ur shagged. . + get 1 up and running and it will be easier to just add them over the yrs i will deffo need 8 cameras in total, i know i could get a 8 channel nvr, but its about having that extra capacity. i have cat5e around the house to the points, 8 in total. firstly, can someone explain the POE to me, i know its power via the cat5 cable, but its the NVR with a 4 port POE switch. sher whats the point in that if u have 6 or 8 cameras. from what im reading, I can forget about POE port included and just go for a seperate switch box http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=33-181-164&ParentOnly=1&IsVirtualParent=1 is that above what i need? how does it work then?. . my camera is plugged in to this box for power ya? what about picture etc.? how does that get to the NVR? lastly, nice job. a nice NVR anybody? camera? http://empiresecuritycameras.com/p-115-esc-ipc1-v-20-1080p-outdoor-bullet-ip-poe-camera-28-12mm-lens-onvif.aspx this one doesnt look too bad for the price? Thanks

  23. nope, i'm in Europe, Ireland actually, one thing i've wondered about dome cameras is when your setting it up, like aiming it. ok with a bullet you probably loosen a screw and aim it, where you like.. .im not talk about focusing now, just aiming it. up/down, back and forth. . . how does it work with a dome, if i had it on the under side of an eve would it take positioning it correctly first time. . like screwing it to the underside. . . and i resume it doesnt move up and down much. . or, inside that round ball of glass, can u take the glass off, and basically move the camera all about?
