  1. Hi Deeann, I purchased that same decoder and it worked great for me. What problems are you having with that decoder or what specific questions did you have?
  2. The main problem you face is the adjustable frame rate setting. I have not seen a board camera or very many other cameras that can do that. That is usually done on a DVR.

    Rapid replay!

Sometimes that happens when the video gets converted over and the media players automatically speeds up the video for some reason. If you have microsoft movie maker, you can slow down the video to make it normal looking and then upload it.
  4. I havent seen too many other applications for a regular vari-focal lensed board camera other than to be put inside a mini dome. Some of our customers jimmy rig them to use as regular cameras mounted bare but it looks pretty ghetto. I have seen some board cameras that have 50mm lenses on them but nothing larger than that. We get tons of them from retailer remodels, they like to put them above their cash registers inserted in a smoke dome or pendant mounted in the secondary isles. If you want covert then get a good pinhole board camera. It takes covert to a whole new level. Of course your limited to a fixed lens but if short distances are all you need them for them that shouldnt be a problem. The opportunities are endless, you just need to find a hole small enough for the pinhole lens to look through. Here is a clock we got in from one of the places we contract with. I was wondering why the heck they shipped us a clock in for, then I looked at the back and there was a Filtech pinhole board camera attached to it. Someone drilled a small hole in a regular clock and glued the darn thing to the clock: My sisters house have been having trouble with some vandals. First it was toilet paper, then it was paintballs, next it was someone who speared poop on their door. I plan on catching the poopatrator by putting one of these cameras behind a small planter that she has right by her door. Just gonna drill a small hole right behind the planter and stick this baby right in there. Noone will even have the slightest clue it was there, its basically invisible unless you stick your eyeball right up next to it. The camera is about as big as a quarter and has a brilliant picture too.
  5. One limitation is that there are not many large lenses available for them.
  6. You would have to jimmyrig it with a multiplexer like Soundy said which is not ideal. It would not look good, some boxes would be smaller than others.

A word of caution about the QC444

I cannot say the same for me. At one time, I had the incorrect port set and it kept giving me an error.
  8. The alarm feature is one of the most underused features on a DVR, but it can be a beautiful thing. There are many devices that can be used as an alarm trigger for your DVR. One of the more common one devices is a PIR motion detector. This detects actual motion through a motion sensor as opposed to your DVR's pixel based motion detection. This will make for a more "true" motion detection and will take care of most of the false triggers. Basically you run wires from the motion detector to your DVR. After you do some configurations to your DVR to accept the motion detector, you can then set your DVR to record, send emails, move your PTZ. etc only on alarm triggers. Door sensors and doorbells are also great triggering devices.
  9. The best thing to do would be to contact the supplier to see if they have the windows mobile app for that individual DVR. Most DVR's do nowadays.
  10. This has got be a joke.

A word of caution about the QC444

I dont have the Q-see, but I have a DVR that uses the same firmware I beleive. See if this helps. In this demonstration, I used Gmail. Please also try Gmail when you try it out as well. Copy these email settings to a "T", with the exception of the email address, you will need to use your own Gmail email. Make your to and from email, the same gmail email address. Also, make sure your username is also your gmail email. And use port 465. And here is what your motion detection settings should look like: Note that the email box is highlighted. You also have to specify which channel you want to have motion detected emails sent to, in this case, it was channel 9.

    IR washout on CCTV Cameras

Like Soundy said, if you can lower the AGC, this will help dramatically. The only drawback by doing this is that you will have a darker picture at night especially on farther away objects. We are currently testing a camera that initially had this problem due to its really high powered IR, beautiful low light settings, but just as you said, when someone walked right in front of it, it was just a white silhouette. But I was able to tweak the AGC and it helped 100%. Some cameras you can micro tweak the AGC more than others. On some cameras, it just has an On/Off setting. Hopefully your camera is one of those that you can raise or lower instead of just turning on or off.

    Mystery DVR

Whats the username? Sometimes the password is duplicated.
  14. If they are the same brand DVR then more than likely you should be able to use the CMS software that came with the DVR to view all screens at one time from a computer within your local network. That is, if the DVR's came with CMS software.

Most of the time that theory is true. If you have slow download, the upload is slower

    Crimp versus twist-on BNC connectors

Sorry if I was wrong about the extra foil wrap causing extra problems. Honestly, I dont know the technical reasons as to why it would cause more problems. I just know that noone on here recommends it. It seems I read a post not too long ago from one of the installers on here that the foil wrap can cause "extra" problems in addition to touching the inner conductor. I am just too lazy to look it up right now. I know that is good for CATV, but is not used often in CCTV. All I know is that whenever we get our used cameras in from the large retailers/government organizations/casinos, they occasionally have some siamese cable attached to their cameras, and not once have I ever seen the foil wrapped stuff cable. I figure if there was a benefit to the foil wrapped stuff, then they would use it as those large organizations tend to use the highest quality equipment.

    Crimp versus twist-on BNC connectors

Yes, I know exactly what you are talking about. And the foil shielded cable is not what you want to get next time. We bought a couple of rolls of that when we first started from a CCTV supplier as well. Its a pain in the butt for installing. I would think that most installers would agree that that type of cable is not ideal for CCTV. They use that type of cable alot in satellite and cable TV installations. But since you have it already, you can still use it, but you will want to peel back the foil because if that touches the inner conductor, it will kill the video signal or cause it to be really poor, thats why its a pain the butt, plus I think it may cause other problems as well. If you buy more cable in the future, it should look something like this with no foil shielding:

    Crimp versus twist-on BNC connectors

In the future, it may be better to buy the cable without the foil sheath, all that does is cause problems for your BNC connection and is not ideal for CCTV installations. But yes, if you have the cable with the sheath, then peeling it back would be a good idea.

Digital Sprite 2 - auto return to patrol?

I am not so sure that the PTZ can be password protected. I have some like it but under a different brand. But if you can password protect the DVR, that would probably be alot easier than going in and passwording the PTZ everytime. But as far as your first question: The cameras themselves cannot. That action would have to be performed in the DVR. And I have no knowledge of the digital sprites, I am sure someone else here knows alot about their PTZ controls. My guess would be that there is no such action on the DVR that can perform this.
  21. Decent company but they do have a bad habit of subsituting products for you without asking first. It has happened to me on a couple of occassions actually. When I first started out, I used to buy from them alot but not so much anymore.
  22. I believe Tom just confirmed which set was power and which set was RS-485. The problem now is trying to figure out which protocol the PTZ is set to. If its chinese, those PTZ's almost always are set to Pelco-D, and its either 2400 or 9600 Baud rate, Either CAM ID of 000 or 001. But it could be something else too. Unfortunately, A PTZ is not a piece of equipment that you want to have without a clear set of instructions. As said before, you will need to contact the supplier to confirm what wire does what and what the protocol, baud rate, and CAM ID is. They are the people that can really help. We are just playing a guessing game here.

    CCTV Prices

Kind of a loaded question. Your best bet would be to do some research on the web and in your area for average prices of the equipment and price accordingly.
