Doing them this weekend as we speak. Should have something uploaded on Monday or Tuesday. I aint gonna lie, it needs light. So far, in normal lit parking lots, it holds up to the CNB just fine if not better but does get noisey, obviously this is a known weakness of most megapixel cameras. Will see how it does in real dark areas.

Why did I have a feeling you were going to say something like that. Very predictable person you are these days. I was actually surprised it took you this long. First off, we dont have any CIF only DVR's. But to answer your question on a serious note as you requested, I always recommend D1 recording and to never record in CIF, even if it means lower frame rate. But to answer your question even more, in some circumstances, I am sure a CIF recording could be prosecutable in court given the right field of view. But my point that I was trying to make, before you did your usual thread hijack, the compression was so bad that it didnt matter what the resolution was. I only return with a smart a$$ reply to your equally smart a$$ comments But since you mentioned it, why stop now. I am sure that if this DVR was listed $1500 that it may actually catch your interest since you seem to hold alot of importance on perceived value.

I was once presented with the oppurtunity to sell a 4 CH DVR, my cost was $40 and that was the cost arrived at my location. When I got it in, i was playing around with the GUI and it actually looked decent. I was thinking wow, this thing is a bargain. so I decided to test the most important part, see what the video playback quality looked like. Thats when I wanted to puke. It looked like an Atari trying playback video, it was real blocky and choppy, the worst compression I have ever seen. There is no sense of getting a DVR if it doesnt produce prosecutable video. Dont know if thats the case with this one or not, but thats always the first thing I test, as that really boils down to being the most important thing.

Product made in Canada and sold in US help US economy lot more then flipping Chinese product from US to everybody else hmmm, I guess you know something I dont. Be sure to give your most educated, economically based answer on why. Does the US receive some kickback from Canada or any other country that I dont know about? Do they receive a percentage of the income tax dollars of the sale that was made? I am not saying your wrong, just want to know why you think this. Should we all throw away our Iphones, Ipads, and all of the other stuff that we use on a day to day basis that is made in China as well and start looking for suppliers from other countries on these products? Oh yeah, and what about those parts that your cameras are made of, arent you buying from China or Japan or wherever in an indirect way too?

perhaps give us specific models. CNB is a manufacturer. LT is a re-seller who buys from different manufacturers.

That's got a great lens on it but the night image doesnt compare to the CNB. May be good to go with all CNB just to keep it simple.

bottom line, dont use 300' ir cameras in your babies room, not only is it pointless, but you risk blinding the little booger.

According to CNB, the VCM-24VF is only IP65: http://www.cnbusa.com/en/html/product/product.php?seqx_prod=1073 Not sure why they rated it like that as its sealed up really nice, to me, it looks every bit of IP66. But this is the reason why I ask if that was ocean you lived by. For protection over time, the CNB may actually be a better choice in this scenario mainly for that reason. Its pretty rugged, and saltwater moisture overtime can really eat away at stuff like that. Just keep in mind that it has no IR, so for your real dark areas, you may want to get external IR illuminators or get some motion lights or if you have decent lighting around your property at night, the CNB's should be able to pick up on that. But dont get me wrong, they definetely cannot see in real dark scenarios so be sure to add some sort of illumination in your darker areas. Each camera has its own unique advantages, but in this case considering the seawater, may be a good idea to play it safe and get the CNB. As far as the real wide shot out in the Sea, is there a real particular point of interest that you want to focus on or are you just trying to get a real wide shot. The thing with analog cameras, is for super wide shots like that, they dont get alot of detail on far away objects at all. Are you just trying to see right out in front of your immediate beach?

Your house is pretty close to the water, do you get alot of Sea Spray and saltwater intrusion on your property, or is it not much of a problem due to the breakwater?

Generally not a great idea, but with IR cameras better not do it at all, you will have IR reflection big time. Is that saltwater or freshwater? The picture was confusing me as it looks like that the top of the picture that you are looking at the flat surface of the water but the bottom half of the picture it looks like satellite view from the top.

Your baby's room must be huge if you are concerned about IR reaching up to 300' . Normally, you dont need or want a whole lot of IR shining down on your baby. I wouldnt go all out with a giant IR camera in your baby's room, just go with something small.

Another great video. Informative too. May even point this to some of my customers when trying to explain field of view and the coorelation it has with getting detailed shots. I'll bet there is a focus setting on your camera that will only make the camera module focus right after you pan or tilt it. That will take care of the problem that the camera sometimes has when something walks in its field of view and its having a hard time finding a point of focus. On some cameras, the setting is called KF, instead of AF.

One thing to note on these NVR's is that they will only take IP cameras, not analog. If you want IP and Analog, take a look at our Hybrid. At this time, its tough to find any IP cameras that are under $100, but we will be having some 1080p domes come in this week priced at $200. Also, if you decide to use 3rd party cameras, make sure they are Onvif compliant, and just to be safe, let me know which brand and model you want to use so I can ensure compatibility.

Fujinon makes some good auto iris varifocal lens rated at 3 MP and they are 1/2". they are pretty good too, under $100. The one I used is not IR corrected but does keep a pretty good focus even in low light.

You can tell from your picture that indeed your casing is reflecting IR back to the lens. look at the right side of the eyeball, you have IR's pointing right at the right side of the casing. Tilt your eyeball down more and the problem will go away.

It definetely looks like IR reflection off of something, thats the only plausible cause. Is there anything real close to the cameras that is causing to it reflect? if you are using an EYEball dome then its possible that you are getting IR reflection off the casing if you have the camera angled too much. What do you mean by this? You keep referring to a single LED, but in your first post you say 48 pc led. Dont get the photosensor mistaken with the LED's. If any of the 48 LED's are being obstructed in any way, you will get major glare like you are getting.

From my experience, if you are talking basically the same model but switching between 1.3mp and 2 MP resolution, then no there isnt much of a difference at all, atleast I couldnt see a whole lot that was gained from switching from 1.3mp to 2mp, if anything, very little was gained especially for evidence purposes. So if you are talking about a manufacturer who basically has the same exact camera other than the resolution, but one maxes out at 1.3mp and the other maxes out at 2mp, and the 1.3mp is alot cheaper, then I would go with the 1.3mp. But comparing an analog camera to a 1.3mp camera, the difference is huge.
