DVR Remote doesn't move cameras over iPhone...
SEANHAWG replied to rucanunes's topic in Computers/Networking
It just sounds like the Iphone app simply doesnt work like its supposed to then in my opinion. I am not sure if its anything you are doing or not doing. -
Yeah it will be able to "handle" it but please note that the highest resolution you will get out of the cameras if they are hooked up to the DVR is 640x480 due to the weakest link theory.

Well, if its SATA, you can find some great deals from Buy.Com and Amazon.Com for 500gig and 1TB drives. I havent really looked for PATA drives.

SEANHAWG replied to redliner's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Sure that makes sense if you have you always had your manual iris wide open but thats not always the case. -

Yeah I dont even know why they make them like that. Its make you wonder if these manufacturers test them before they sell them. -

DC auto Iris varifocal vs. manual fixed focal
SEANHAWG replied to redliner's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
What I have noticed is, if you have a well lit up area at night, you wont be able to tell much of a difference between manual iris and auto iris lenses, especially if you put them on a day/night cameras. Its the areas with very low light at night in which you will be able to tell the difference. But that Samsung is a good day/night camera and that has alot to do with it too. -
I may as well go on to say that if you are going to buy another hard drive, go ahead and get a 1 TB if your DVR accepts something that big, we arent talking about a big price difference here, maybe $20-30 depending on where you shop. The best deals can be found online.

A 500gb is not really any different size than an 80 gig, maybe a little thicker but no significat size change because they must all fit in the same size bay. They are all standard 3.5" size. The difference between a sata and a pata is the connectors I think. Do a google search to see what the connectors look like and open up your DVR and match and compare. Some of the older DVR's that were made pre 2006 have connectors different than sata. But most of the DVR's today use sata drives. You will get alot more recording time out of a 500gig than an 80gig for sure.

Hard drive: which one to choose for DVR?
SEANHAWG replied to Securame's topic in Digital Video Recorders
they make 750 gb too. I am not sure if they make anything lower than 500 gb and I am not sure if they make anything greater than 1 TB. Most of the DVR's that I have seen will not take over a 1 TB Hard-Drive per bay. If the DVR's do take more than 1 TB, then they usually just add another bay for another hard drive to be added so therefore you would just add another hard drive.. -
Go online and search for Seagate SV hard drives, those are the best for surveillance.

Playing bach h.264 files and supporting software.
SEANHAWG replied to Scot's topic in Digital Video Recorders
No but seriously though. Did your DVR not come with a playback player to be viewed on computers? How long is the video clip? I have found with VLC that if its a really long video clip, it sometimes takes it a while to start playing, especially if its the first time you have ever used VLC. The first time I used VLC, it had to find my "cache settings" whatever that means and it took nearly 5 minutes for my video to start playing. After that though, they play right away. Also, does your DVR allow you to save to an AVI file? If so, you might try backing that up in that format to see if you have any different results. -

He was really ahead of his time. He once compressed a 5 hour symphony into 1 minute with the power of H.264. -
Hard drive: which one to choose for DVR?
SEANHAWG replied to Securame's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I only use Seagate SV series. They are made specifically for surveillance DVR's. -
Some of our customers have done this: You could add a quad processor to one of the channels which would give you a total of 7 cameras. The only thing to remember with this is whenever you have the DVR on quad view and whichever channel you have the quad processor on, you will have 4 mini squares within the square. So basically, whichever cameras you have hooked up to your quad processor, you will only have a 4 square view on, if that makes sense.

Will my VCR record a CCTV camera?
SEANHAWG replied to BruceC's topic in General Analog CCTV Discussion
Thats odd. I appreciate the offer but I think the shipping costs would raise the price significantly -
Will my VCR record a CCTV camera?
SEANHAWG replied to BruceC's topic in General Analog CCTV Discussion
If you really want to use a VCR for a camera, you should consider getting a time lapse VCR which will take a 6 hour tape and expand it all the way up to 960 hours in some cases. You can get some used ones off of eBay for really cheap nowadays. We used to sell a ton of them but we dont get them anymore -
Sounds like a manufacturing flaw if you can only get it to focus in one on focal point such as the wide view that you said. This is usually typical if the CCD sensor is moved too far back.

Eye-Fi to transfer pictures/videos to a hidden computer
SEANHAWG replied to Someone10101's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
We use the Eye-Fi card whenever we need to take pictures for our descriptions and we love it. We use the heck out of it and It really rocks. It can send the pictures pretty quickly too. The only thing is that you have to be pretty close to the wireless router for it to work and sometimes it for some reason will not pick up on the picture right away. I have never used it to transfer video though, I wasnt even aware that this could be done, I was under the impression that only pics could be transerred. The only thing is that the memory card keeps the pictures on the card even after transferring to your computer. I have never tried to mess with it to see if it can automatically delete the pictures after transferring though so I am not sure if it can even be done or not. -
I tried using an easycap USB capture but the video and clips looked horrible. It could be because of the EasyCap brand though which was pretty cheap.

Thanks Danger-E, I got your PM. It got me thinking about another creative, (or desperate) way to do this. I got to thinking if you just wanted to show a screen shot of certain menu functions and such, you could always loop out the main out to channel 1 on your DVR, go onto your remote viewing software and capture the images that way as well. I did this and I got a nice clear D1 image. Of course this wont work if you are trying to show a screen shot of all 8 channels being displayed on the screen. And you will want to make sure to turn off your time stamp and channel display.

Does that DVR not come with CMS Desktop Software? If so, you can view, control and manage several DVR's on one PC. Some CMS software allows for up to 64 different camera views from several different DVR's. Kind of like Daisy Chaining but not technically, but it gets what you want to acheive.

Since you are using IE, you will need to make sure you have your Active X configured correctly. Check your DVR's manual for this. This could be the problem.
