A little grainy but not too bad. Looks like most MJPEG DVR's that I have seen. I wonder how long it would record on a 32GB SD card.

Get a seperate used B/W Bosch Camera on Ebay and put right beside it. You can get great deals on Bosch or any other name brand B/W cameras on ebay. Nobody wants B/W anymore so they sell for pretty cheap.

I am not familiar with that type of odd contraption in the picture.

Hi DVS, I just bought one of those from China but the one I bought supports up to 32GB SD cards, guess I'll have to wait 3 weeks for it to come in. I couldnt find the video sample you were talking about though?

Wireless video transmission

sweet invention -
I recently purchased a Hikvision DS-7204 4 Channel DVR. Here is my review. 1.The overall appearance of the DVR is sleek, simple and small. Can be controlled by buttons, mouse, or remote control. 2. Upon turning on the DVR, the DVR appears to process live video just fine. I know this sounds like an obvious feature it should have but I have bought a few chinese DVR's in the past where the video looks washed out and ugly. This one appears to check out fine 3)My initial thoughts of user interface was pretty simple and straightforward. It definetely wasnt the "prettiest" interface I have seen, it was actually kind of boring, but it was very easy to understand and straightforward which is the most important thing in my book. One thing that I thought was odd is whenever I wanted to set a channels settings and copy those settings over to my other channels, I would have to completely reboot the DVR. 4) Some early recognizable features are it records in either Qcif, CIF, 2CIF, 4CIF. Bit rate is fully customizable up to 2mbps 5) I did my first test run on recording it in 4CIF. At 4CIF, it allows me to record at 6FPS per channel. If I wanted to go CIF, I could have 30 FPS. But I prefer to record at the highest quality so I set it to CIF. By Default, it switched the Bit rate to 896 KBPS. I tried it on this setting because I assume that most typical users would not know what bit rate means and would keep it at that setting as well. I played back the recorded video and it looked fairly well as it should at D1, very slightly compressed looking but nothing to get aggravated about. Nothing too overly compressed and no artifacts. The one thing that does suck is when recording at D1, it can record all channels simultaneously at D1 but it will not playback all 4 channels in D1 simultaneously or show a quad view playback in D1, this means you have to select the D1 file you want to watch and if you want to watch another camera, you have to stop that recording and go back into the menu and select the other file. Supposedly, you can get multi-channel playback if CIF is used but I couldnt get it to work for some reason. Also, one thing I noticed is recording rez didnt look much different between 896 kbps and 2 mbps. Cif recording actually looked pretty good compared to alot of other CIF DVR's I have seen, still, you cant beat D1. 6) The web GUI was pretty easy to use and straightforward. Actually probably one of the DVR's stronger qualities. See screenshots below for pic. Thats about all I tested. All in all, I give it a B-. Only reason I didnt give it a higher grade is because of the inability to have more than 1 channel playback. I can understand if I had a DVR that was 8 or 16 channels, and it could only playback 4 channels, that is fine with me. But to only playback one channel at a time is kind of frustrating. But there are some other great strong qualities about the DVR, so it should work for most small business owners or homeowners.

SEANHAWG replied to SEANHAWG's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Interesting to know. Thanks. This was my first Hikvision DVR to test, although I wasnt dissapointed, I was expecting more from Hikvision. Its good to know that they made some improvements on the new model. -

Panasonic WV-CS854 Pinout help!

Looks like we are all in the same boat . I also bought 5 off of ebay from an electronics recycler. I was going to try to mess with it but I just dont have time to tinker with them. Its a shame I dont have the bases because they sure are good cameras. I am hoping to find a salvage one come up on ebay for a good price with a wire base. If anyone comes up with a reliable solution please let me know. -
In my opinion, the first and second poster are the same person. The first post was obviously a Keyword tactical (security Camera, Security Camera Systems & Wireless Security Camera) post to try to appear in Google search results. Who seriously asks questions that way on a board like this? And then the second poster goes in for the slam dunk by advertising the site and then follows it up with some more keywords (surveillance cameras, home security camera system). If you do some google research, those keywords are searched the highest for this industry. Which brings me back to my point, lame advertisement attempt.

I NEED HELP WITH VIDEO VIEWER SOFTWARE
SEANHAWG replied to colombiancctv's topic in General Digital Discussion
That probably has more to do with the DVR than the VLC program. -
I havent seen much "Dahua" branded DVR's here in the US. I assume most of them are OEM'ed?

Upload images to a free image hosting site and then get the web address for each image, then you click on the box that says Img up above the text box and put your images web address between the parentheses thingies like this Also, I would like to see some screen shots of your Web User Interface. You can do this by simply doing the following: 1) Whenever you have your DVR web screen pulled up, hit CTRL,PrintScreen buttons simultaneously. 2) Go into paint and rightclick paste 3) Save it 4) Crop if necessary 5) Upload as described above.

My first installation...need suggestion

+ 1 gozillion You will have a lot less headache this way. -
Easiest way to do it would be to view it over the network and save pics and videos to your computer.

They wont be any more secure than the ones you already have open. The default port numbers that you DVR manual gave has nothing to do with how secure a port is, your ISP will know more about port security, but I doubt that one port is more secure than another. Leave it the way it is and have a beer or coffee and pat yourself on the back and relax for the rest of the night.
-
When you port forwarded this, did you indicate it as a TCP or UDP or both?
-
Can your DVR assign a Local IP through DHCP? Check your manual to see what I mean and follow the instructs on how to do so. If so, do that. Once you get that Local IP, go to the computer that is hooked up in that same network and open up internet explorer. Type that DVR's IP in the web address bar. If you get your DVR login screen, then you are halfway there. If you do not get your login screen, that is a problem within itself and you will need to figure out the root of the problem before you proceed. Then port forward all the appropriate ports that your DVR uses to that DVR's IP. You will do this within your Routers admin page, it sounds like you may have already set this up. But make sure your ports are being forwarded to your DVR's IP. Furthur, make sure your ISP is not blocking any ports as this will inhibit login from a remote location. You can do this by getting on the computer that is within your network and going to canyouseeme.org You can then type in the port(s) that your DVR uses in the blank field. You will want to see if you get any messages saying that your ports are being blocked. If they are, you will need to call your ISP and tell them to unblock those ports or tell them to let you know of what ports you can use. if you get a message saying the port is open, you are almost home free. Also, you will want to write down the WAN IP that it shows when you are there at canyouseeme.org Now, go to a computer that is not within the same network that your DVR is in, (i.e. a remote location) Type in your WAN IP that you seen at canyouseeme.org. You should be able to login to your DVR. If that doesnt work, type in the IP and follow it within a semi-colon and the port number that your DVR uses, example, if your DVR uses port number 80, and your WAN IP is 73.564.231.144, you would first try typing in exactly 73.564.231.144, if that doesnt work, follow it up with 73.564.231.144:80

Does Pelco IV accept generic 3rd Party controllers?
SEANHAWG replied to Fiona's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
Buyer Beware on really cheap PTZ controllers. I bought one for $99 and it was such a piece of junk. It never really worked right and really only worked at 2400 Baud Rate. I use a 4 channel DVR as my PTZ controller as it has mouse driven PTZ controls and it blows away most cheap PTZ joystick controllers. If you got a really nice PTZ like a Pelco Spectra, dont insult it with a cheap joystick controller. Get a nice one where you can access the menu and all that good stuff. -
You gotta give it up to him for following the ABC's of selling though (Always Be Closing) I like the tactic of , "Ha ha ha, yes its very nice here, cant wait for Christmas and then BAM! Buy my product." Very Nice " title="Applause" />

I realize this is off topic of CCTV a little but it still affects it in one way or another. Has anyone used 4G wireless internet yet, if so, is it pretty fast? I got pretty fast DSL at work but here at home my only option is Hughes Net Satellite and it absolutely 100% SUCKS. Talk about slow "high speed internet"! And then they got this Fair Access Policy which means if you go past your daily alloted download limit, your internet slows down to sub dial up speed for 24 hours. I wont even go into how bad their customer service is either, oh man . I am thinking about switching to an air card modem type thing for our house but I hate that it gives me a monthly download limit, I would exceed it in no time. What sucks worse is we do not even have 4G coverage here in Tulsa, OK yet. Does anyone know of anything else that may be available to me. I assume that wireless internet service is going to be the thing of the future but when is it going to have full coverage. Obama said one of his plans was to make high speed internet available to everyone but I havent seen anything happening
