Yes, change the DNS to the same as your gateway address. -
Non-traditional usage for CCTV (looking for help and ideas)
groovyman replied to pootwaddle's topic in System Design
Different document cameras come with a variety of connections such as HDMI, VGA, SVideo, etc. They can also interface with a PC and give you more control over the video before being broadcast to a TV or projection screen, such as broadcasting in B&W and allowing you to record. I don't know if the software will give all the effects you're looking for, but check out ManyCam http://www.manycam.com/ . It's visual effects software (free) used with webcams. I see no reason why it wouldn't work with a document camera. I'm thinking you could even use a webcam for your project, but maybe something with a stable, moveable arm would work better - that's why I suggested a document camera. If you consider going this route make sure to look at FPS as some do not go up to 30fps because they're mainly intended for use with still images, such as documents & objects. -

I'm wondering if something like a document camera could serve part of your purpose. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Document_camera -

Within the 14 day pro trial with dyn.com you can cancel and keep one hostname free of charge. http://dyn.com/dns/dyndns-pro-free-trial/ However, isn't the service worth $20/yr.? I think it is. I've had a pro account for years. -

No George - I never indicated you were promoting anything (read everything again). I just asked if you were indicating that video recorded @ D1 is much better than 4CIF because the specs of the system is 4CIF, as you highlighted in bold, but it seems like you were discussing it like it was only CIF and made a comparison to an old VCR. Someone else indicated you were promoting. D1 CCTV resolution is NOT 704 x 480 D1 resolution is 720×486 (NTSC) and 720×576 (PAL) 4CIF resolution is 704×480 (NTSC) and 704×576 (PAL) -
Right cable for 100 foot run
groovyman replied to stonesmiith's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I think you may be right about having a defective camera. Each reply shouldn't be more than 2ms locally. The time it takes to receive a reply could most likely be the underlying cause of the grainy & dealyed playback you mentioned. If the reply from a ping takes that long the data transmission will not be smooth - you'll most likely get a lot of dropped data packets. -

I read something on this forum a long time ago that I completely agree with: "you're recording events, not making a movie" (who originally said that here?) and I repeat it to my clients all the time. For me, 6fps-8fps seems to be a sweet spot. I don't go higher than that, but sometimes I'll set a camera or two on 3fps depending on the environment and what's being captured, such as an area where the client wants coverage, but is not critical.

I gots some good chit man.

Maybe try rebooting the dvr. See if that helps. I've run into an issue like this with every dvr I've ever used and rebooting usually fixes it.

Ok You have D1 size ( no doubt ) what about quality ? Depends on the camera, feild of view & environment. When better quality cameras are used and properly positioned the video can be fantastic. -
On page 10 of the manual it states "Rotate the dome anchor ring to the left to remove it." It shows the dome anchor ring is right above the dome cover. Reference: ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/pub/Panasonic/cctv/OperatingInstructions/WV-CS954_Opinst.pdf

Take it easy groovyman He simply trying to promote his product on another hand do you believe that u getting D1 quality recording with your product line ? (whatever u use) Yeah, I just saw that statement and wanted to see what sort of response there would be. It's wrong for the op to read it and think 4CIF is not sufficient for analog recording and that D1 "will enhance your recorded footage alot." What, by 16 pixels? Lately I've been using Aver Hybrid DVR's. On the analog side they record @ D1, all channels. -

George, are you indicating that video recorded @ D1 is much better than 4CIF? -
An account at dyn.com cost $20 year. I know - free is better than cheap - but with having the paid account you can use your own domain with it and not have to be concerned about the IP address changing.

Right cable for 100 foot run
groovyman replied to stonesmiith's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
With the 100' cable when you do a ping test use -t after the IP address (example: ping 192.168.1.1 -t). That way the ping will be continuous. While it's running try wiggling the cable ends (both ends) and see if you start to get a reply. Also, disconnect/reconnect the cables. Do it slowly. Could be that on one end a good contact isn't being made even though it clicks. A few years ago I had a guy in an office who bought some premade networking cable (50ft-100ft). These particular cables were very cheaply made. Very often the devices connected with these cables would lose network connectivity. The trick with these cables was to insert & stop just before it clicked. This seemed to make better contact with the pins in the network ports. I ended up stripping the cable and recrimping the connectors and they've been working fine ever since. -
Maplin - Sentient DVR. Transfer to USB Stick
groovyman replied to pharla's topic in Digital Video Recorders
As an alternative to USB, can video be viewed via remote software or a web browser? Does the software have a backup/download feature? Maybe try saving the video that way. -

Port Forwarding Help
groovyman replied to tommyxv's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
tommyxv - you also need to make that whatever ports are being used that they are also opened in the Windows 7 Firewall or any third party firewall that might be installed on the system. Some software will attempt to configure these ports within Windows, some not. I'm guessing that if they didn't bother to secure the software with a username & password that it most likely isn't going to attempt to configure the firewall either.
