Well the judge ruled that the subject in a Florida murder case will get old "Sparky." One news anaylist and former judge said the CCTV footage was the "clinch pin" in the case. Even thought the footage is rather poor, it was enough to break the case. MJEG or MPEG4 compression methods didn't appear to be a concern.

whole new Breed of DVR GE's Symdec vsr-4-300
normicgander replied to blowrabbit's topic in Digital Video Recorders
If I recall correctly, when I spoke to the rep in Detroit he said Wavereader won't work. It uses SymNav software. -
That's true. Could use their RMK-1000 rack mount with SED-2100s. I'm waiting for them to have stock in the US... Any status reports? Thanks

If I were to go the IP route, does anyone have a recommendation for video servers? Most of the ones I see are 1 or 4 channel units... 4CIF or D1 quality on each channel. Thanks
-
I neglected to also say that remote or PC viewing is an important purpose...

The whole purpose of using the IP network is to reduce cabling installation costs. The IT folks I deal with have no problems with the camera streams and bandwidth on the LAN. The bottle necks are typically with the WAN. That being said, they would be concerned with the issues raised in this thread.
-
Thanks for the response. However, in the big scheme of things, the issues of this thread concerns me. As someone who's wanting to deploy IP devices over WANs and the Internet, I'm going to have to research this topic more throughly. At the IP TechSec, the whole nexus of this conference was IP was ready for prime time and that analog cameras and DVRs were going out the window. Now I'm not too sure.... Staying Tuned...

Any opinions of Dedicated Micros, digital sprites?
normicgander replied to MattVidionics's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I agree, DM is expensive and so is GE.. -
Hey Rory, The issue is that they have one fairly new pelco Dx-8000 16ch. These pups are really expensive (even compared to GE or Sanyo). They will have a total of 48 cameras, so its either get 2 more DX8000 DVRs or look at other cost effective DVRs or look at IP servers and a suitable software program that can perform a virtual matrix switcher. (oh no that IP thing again ) They also need to upgrade the monitors. So I open to suggestions. In general, I've been told that the A/V and computer industry is moving toward 16:9 displays. Thanks!

whole new Breed of DVR GE's Symdec vsr-4-300
normicgander replied to blowrabbit's topic in Digital Video Recorders
I tried to get more info on that unit (and the client software) about 4 months ago or more. The specs looked really good and I liked the "hybrid" platform, but it didn't have motion detection which was disappointing. -
Rory, Maybe there's a bar in one of the hotels nearby. I haven't a clue. Any ideas anyone?

I'm not sure, but it would great to meet and talk shop and and have a few pops...

Using Video Baluns HELP
normicgander replied to robertjsmyth's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
What kind of video UTP baluns did you use? When you insert the baluns on end end the twisted pair circuit "floats" and the tx and rx ends are ground isolated from eachother. It sounded like a reverse polairty issue. Did the original baluns bench test test ok? -
eganson, Did you inform ACTi about these "outbound" communications? I think it would be a concern it any IP device trys to communicate to external sources without the owners authority. But hey I'm not an IT guy and still learning.

Are the members going to meet for beers and greetings? Thanks

Hey Joe, Isn't the ITUs H.264 is the same as MPEG4 part 10 (AVC)? I think the ITU and MPEG groups worked jointly this coding effort...

Hello follow members, Has anyone had experience with the Nuvico NVJV-4000 DVR? Any other options for a similar DVR in a class? Thanks , normicgander

As far as features go: Image quality is most important (ability to record 720 x 480 "high res" camera); Motion detection to conserve disk space and archive an event trigger; Alarm inputs; remote viewing- initialing on the LAN or direct via crossover cable; 4 camera (Analog) inputs. It's just hard to sell GEs/Sanyos/DMs etc to some small businesses. I've installed a few EDSR400 Everfocus units- not bad, but software is cheesey (as Rory would say I don't like it). Thanks

Thanks Sir Flannel, The customer (small county building) is looking to provide access control for two doors and I'm looking for a basic system which can be configured via IP. They wish to access reports to see who's has been entering/exiting these rooms. The main office room requires a push to open button to allow entry. All of the other features you mentioned would be extras at this point and cost could be an issue. I've heard the HUB max is a good system.

Anyone have feedback on the IEI Emerge 50 system? Thanks

Dear Members: I attended the TechSec IP conference and I was wondering if I should post the names/links for some of newer or interesting hardware/software companies which were there? The conference seemed more political (IT vs. Security folks) than technical, so I was disappointed in that regard. Meeting the exhibitors was much more productive. Several new software companies geeting started. Most will be at ISC West. Big debates on IP (IPVS was their buzz word) vs CCTV (analog). They ripped analog hard....I guess I'm in the dark ages with my DVRs, but my customers seem happy.

At least for me, I believe the IP backbone is an effective method of signal egress and control. I don't really see the beef at my level (you know the self-employed, low-voltage guy aka "trunk slammer"). I work well with county goverments and thier IT departments. In fact, some at the TechSec IP Conference called for more certifications such being "Cisco" certified in order to "keep out" the low-life "trunk slammers." All kidding aside, I've heard of this term before, but my work and dedication to quality and customer support is the nexus of my business....

I absolutely agree- however it could also be a question of ethics. To expand your CCTV example, OEMs use different methods of measuring camera senstivity or "minimum illumination." They're all over the map! You would think there should a standard measurement specification so we can compare one camera to another. Yes, we all must continue to educate and train ourselves relative to new technology, especially if it's how we make our living. I realize I'll never be an IT guy. It's just not my passion- but I continue to learn IT enough to configure my CCTV IP ready "network appliances."

Interesting comments. During one session the panel spoke about the flexibility and ability of IP systems to access and process video via the network. I thought gee, thats the capability that I've been providing my customers for at least the last 3-4 years with IP ready DVRs. They also said that we (CCTV folks) needed to get (more) educated in the IP field. I agree, but many of us have been learning and reading books on the subject and this is certainly evident by the postings on this site. Who doesn't leverage the capability which remote Ethernet viewing povides our customers? I have sold many system on that alone.... Cheers

Hello Loop, Thanks for your feedback on the Nuvico DVR. The motion detection triggering all active channel recording could be a concern...
