    Poor Video Performance over WAN

Do you have different compression setup on these sites?
  2. on the firmware updates they are very sensitive about giving them out without talking to the person doing them first. If something goes wrong during a firmware update (power goes out, Ethernet comes unplugged) and the camera becomes a brick they want you to know that they are not responsible for it. I haven't had any problems with a firmware update. I've done 9 so far ranging from 1300s, 2100, 3130, 8180 and 8360s without any problems. They will want the MAC address of the camera that is being upgraded so they can log it and warn you about what could go wrong. So the firmware will not go on the customer portal site.
  3. 330 feet.. but that takes into account patch cables and such for a repeater (even PoE) Veracities Outreach product will work and I am sure there are others out there. www.veracityusa.com

    Geovision SDK experience

I would like to be able to write about my experience but I can't seem to get a response from them when I request the SDK. I know that there are some other posts about the SDK in this forum. It looks like Rory seems to have experience with it.
  15. At ISC West this year, I was told that in quarter two. Geo was going to be supporting IP Cameras. Does anyone know if they do now? And if they do, is there a list of supported cameras?

Geovision - Support IP Cameras yet?

Hi! Yes the GV WEB SERVER has 1 Cat5/LAN/WAN port for networking. It also have 2 USB ports, but if it will work with wireless USB adapters I am not sure, but think so -just a config challenge I think. Yes it is made for having a external USB HDD for local storage, the HDD must be formated to LINUX so you can not just use it with for instance Windows. In other words the USB HDD will be "locked" to the GV WEB SERVER or another Linux system. JD Actually you can use it with windows. It formats the drive with the ext2 drive format so natively you can't use it with a windows PC. On the CD that comes with the IP Server is the add on that allows windows PCs to read the ext2 formats, so you can use the drive with windows.

    Can i scan less than 16 camera's on a 16cn unit

yes, you can turn them off. You have to go to the active camera menu and just uncheck the cameras that you don't want active
  20. Not sure about the electronic focus meter, but several Panasonic IP cameras have analog monitor outputs, Every ACTi and Toshiba camera does. I'm not sure but I believe the Covi cameras do as well. You are correct about CoVi Are you at the Rocklin location?

Geovision - Support IP Cameras yet?

yeah, this waiting is killing me. They are loosing our business at this point because we are installing mostly IP systems now. I hope they get it together pretty soon.

    Fibre Optic cameras

you'll most likely have to use a media converter. Fiber to ethernet or BNC take a look at IFS or American Fibertek, a quick good will turn up more.

    Fiber Optic Surveillance

Wow... sound interesting. Just like what "Wachhund" said, In my location most of the technician will be send to training and then cert by some organization. Since you have been using optimax fiber kits before. Do you get the same quality and performance as old time which need to clave and polish? What about the costing? will be be the same or lower? As i know fiber optic usually divided into single mode and multi mode then follow by how many pair/s fiber optic(correct me if im wrong). Can your tool kits support? The quality is the same, the biggest difference is the actual connectors cost just a little bit more but you make up for it on the time saved. I've done the old polishing methods (I used to teach certification courses for copper and fiber) and its the same in the end. Typically we run 6 strand indoor/outdoor multimode fiber. The cost difference between 4 and 6 is minimal and two 2 strand is typically used for patch cables, you never know when you will need that extra pair. If you need to get it with more strands you can get it. They have break out kits if you need it. Here is the brochure for the kit http://www.westpenn-wpw.com/pdfs/optimax.pdf
