    cat6 1000ft 2 cameras??

For video, you should be fine. For power, you'll need to power them locally. 12vdc over that kind of distance requires 14/2 or 12/2.

    Casino Cameras

In the casino world, all our recording is rack mounted, so no worries of movement for us But the others are correct: punch the cat5/6 from the cameras into a 110 block or a patch panel, then jumper from that to the DVR.

    NUFF SAID!

Usually cable is rated for installation above freezing. If you're doing conduit runs, you can keep the cable somewhere nice and warm, and then execute your pull as fast as possible. I recently had to do that outside with a few hundred feet of cat5 and 14/2 in an underground conduit, when it was about 20F outside.
  6. Get a nice PIR for motion detection.
  7. Trust me when I say that you will have no issues regarding the strength of the mount. Those seemingly "small" welds are in fact quite strong. The amount of stress that a camera will put on this mount, even in EXTREME weather conditions, isn't that great. Last winter there was an ice storm here that caused about 35 pounds of ice build up on one of the cameras on this same mount, and about 20 pounds of ice on another. I only know that because I had to loosen them, swing them back to me, and break the ice off so it didn't fall 5 stories and hit someone below.
  8. I have sealtite rubber-coated flexible metal conduit that goes straight into the bottom with a compression fitting. For the life of me I can't find what part it actually is, and it's entirely too cold for me to want to go take a picture of it. Perhaps I will a little later.
  9. I would go with the PP351 or PP451. The 451 reaches outward about a foot farther. I happen to have several of the 351 installed, and they are pretty easy to install, and the arm is VERY secure once you tighten the bracket down.. They didn't even move when a tornado went past very close by and destroyed a nearby building. The 4348 is held in place by two 1/4-20 bolts in the sleeve the top part slides in to. In theory, this should hold stable as well, and I wouldn't expect this to move at all. If you happen to have a bunch of IWM laying around (like I do), the 4348 might be a better bet. Especially if it's a long run where a 240/120v to 24v transformer is needed. Then you could use the IWM24-GY to have a nice weather-tight transformer. In my case, I use separate weather-tight external 120v to 24v power supplies wired up right below the 351/451 and some liquid-tight flexible metal conduit between them.

    4 channel system

While it depends on the jurisdiction where they live, you do give good advice: ALWAYS check your local laws regarding the recording of audio.
  11. Clarification required: Does this mean 5mp fixed cameras, and the PTZs must be "HD", along with other stated requirements?

More for the Installation Hall of Shame

You can laugh at that... we had a weather related incident where a facility--a giant tent--had the drop ceiling flex so much that LARGE parts of it fell. The cameras had safety cables, but it didn't help, because they were tied off to parts of the ceiling that also fell/failed. The same things the lights and speakers were tied off to. The camera cable kept them from hitting the floor. Except for that one PTZ that dropped 24 feet and EXPLODED about 3 feet from where someone was sitting... Had 6 cameras dangling from the cable service loop that was wrapped around the back of the enclosure.

    BNC Compression Fittings

In a previous life I was an electrician, and we would use nothing but the twist on F-connectors for coax. We never had an issue with them at all. Now in the CCTV world, where I don't use CAT, I use mini-RG59, so the ICM compression connectors for that.

More for the Installation Hall of Shame

If the metal beam was too difficult to drill into, I would have found a way to put a plate up with LARGE hose clamps to mount it on. That's just my take. Also, they DO make tape more than strong enough to hold those cameras up. 3M VHB tape. It costs a fortune, and is what they use to make window curtain walls on building facades. Also, no safety chain/cable? WTF...

    CCTV Testing Tool

I have a ~7" Tote Vision screen that I use, and it came with a nice carrying case with a strap. If you can hook a strap to it in some way, you could use the strap to prevent it from falling more than a foot. I usually keep the strap around my neck, so the monitor can be on me, but out of the way. Saves a trip up and down. But some kind of flex mount/clamp combo like Numb-nuts said would be awesome, too.

    BNC Compression Fittings

Maybe give these a try: http://www.icmcorp.net/F-ConnCommSeries.htm I have used almost every kind, and I love them. Once you get the proper stripping lengths down, they work great.

Battlefield 3 VS. Modern Warfare 3

I've been an avid PC gamer for about 20 years now, and I have no idea how anyone can play an FPS game on a console. I have both mw3 and bf3 for the PC, and I can honestly say I regret purchasing mw3. It is nothing more than mw2 with different maps. Same engine. Same graphics. Same game play. Boring. BF3 on the other hand... I play the FUCK out of that game. Love it.

    Open Doors wirelessly

I have done wireless door releases and wireless panic alarms with Xbee-based wireless relay devices, tied into one of the many monitored inputs that every door access system tends to have. Those were all desk/counter/table mounted, so I'm not sure about a small portable one.
  22. I second this. Moving both pan/tilt causing image issues sounds a lot like bad power. Have you tried swapping out power supplies for the affected cameras with a known good supply?

    pelco panning

I have this issue with a camera right now, actually. It's installed in a spot that requires a pretty large boom lift, so it can wait I've also found that sometimes the control board in the back box is bad.

can't believe somebody got paid for this install

Actually, I AM the end customer That random cable was a temporary for the brand new LTO drive I got recently. Also, there's actually a few more connections now than before. I added another 48 port patch panel, and another switch (which was just sitting around collecting dust). No to it being Endura. Pelco 9780 matrix, 2 CCs, hotswitch, and serial port expansion (dear lord was that a lot of cabling!) The fiber panel you can see is for future (fiber to all closets), and the Pelco fiber rack is for exterior cameras. Recording is digital, and takes up many racks.
