software compression card vs hardware compression card
CollinR replied to si_kungs's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
It may be a while before you see hardware support for IP technologies so the point is getting to be not as big a deal. -
Client robbed night after install, police unable to use...
CollinR replied to TMJALARMSNATE's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
But, isn't the competition in this business fierce??? Regards, Ronald There is enough idiots like tmj alarms that we that do it right can charge significantly more. Cause they know it will actually work right. -

I am building a DVR that boots from one. Does that count? -
Don's forget 30 damn wall worts! lol This should be one interesting covert job.

Does the cam not have IO to allow you to externally switch it?
-
Having the option to choose makes quite a difference.

Pin hole lens = crappy low light The bigger the lens and imager are the better low light capablity you will have. It simply lets more light through and a larger imager has more surface to recieve the light.

At one time Avermedia had a linux distribution option on a flash drive. However they seem to have quit selling them and when I asked about the distribution they said it was no longer offered. However if you can find one I would be very interesting to see whats on it. IIRC it supported the NV5000 and analog cameras only.

Certification Required to Install Video Cameras?
CollinR replied to DinoSteel's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
The very first reply is for TX. -
NV3000 will only run 1 IP cam, further you would need a EB1704 DVR to use any IP cameras at all.

Ditch the IR altogether, you can't really have #1 and #2 as they are almost mutually exclusive. #4 I assume means they are solor powered??? #5 Interface and make use of are 2 totally different things. Also we would need the part# of the TV. I would say more $ is the first thing you should consider, the POS systems at Sam's and Costco are usually in that price range. Those systems are usually totally worthless.

Not possible, you will need to modify some requirements.

With control center you don't need to RDP into the boxes if you don't want to, control center has an integrated terminal service client.

Well you could always try and make one yourself. Might google "DIY aquarium" or something.

How to choose hight resolution televission?
CollinR replied to somphong's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Prefer a 4:3 aspect ratio CRT if at all possible. -
IR on the cam sucks and most that claim day/night are full of it. Get a true day/night vandal dome and use conventional lighting or add IR if you must have it.

Remote ip video surveillance using "Client-server"
CollinR replied to floordog's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
In my experience the falses come from the analisys and not from the alarm signal transmission. Waiting for SMS messages is the last option I would be looking at. Making the systems smart enough to tell motion from lighting changes from percipitation. Thats where all my falses come from and could be dealt with although some very complex and complicated. EDIT: DVR software that only runs on Windows yet doesn't install as a system service totally hacks me off too. The server client relationship so be in effect on the local user session too. -
Has anyone heard of this IP Software
CollinR replied to cctv_down_under's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I REALLY don't like that... Every camera I have seen has horrible motion detection compared to DVRs I have used. Compressed or uncompressed the cameras right now aren't too smart and unless they get smarter you are limited. This also makes it tough to get unsupported cams to work, MJEPG we have now although not really standardized is at least reasonably easy to connect. I can possibly swing that with exaqc but tring to get the motion data is a whole different story. I totally understand having an option to rely on motion from the cam, it works and does fine for the basics. I do think a leader in software should have some advanced tools to reduce false positives or provide greater accuracy to the IO controls. Which exacq should have covered better then most as well as I believe you have a whole line of IO controls even offering analog capture. -
Yes but I prefer SageTV, I don't do a bunch of streaming.

Andy should have Geo pick beta testers from here at CCTVForum is my vote. We could have had most of the wrinkles out before it went prime time public.

Yes use ODBC between the access database and mysql. The customer will connect to the mysql for the most part and leave geo alone with the mdb.
