Suggestions for a outdoor wireless cam?
CollinR replied to novicecctv's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
$500, bwah! Run! novice run! -
4 drives in AID 0 (doesn't deserve an R) is just begging for a problem, if you are going to be providing any type of warantee or you care about your reputation don't do it that way. As was mentioned one hiccup and it's rebuilding the array and reimaging the box. It's 4 times more likely to happen compared to a non-AIDed configuration. 1st surfing, email, Skype, MS Word = jack crap HD usage, so no gain however big $. Swap motherboards and get some decent RAM, quite possibly a better CPU. Way less money and way more benfit realized. You might get crazy enough and use a server board, if you can trim her install enough you can use it in a RAM drive. RAM is way way faster then any HD. What is the latency of the operating memory? This will make as much of a difference as anything else. Also strip the OS to little more then what we do with DVRs, reduce overhead at almost all costs. If you add a fan on the PCI side directed at the HDs you will be worse off, direct it outside the case.

1/3" vs 1/4" is imaging sensor size, generally speaking the bigger the better with 1/2" being pretty much tops for CCTV. C vs CS is dependent on the cameras housing construction however often they provide adapters so either can be used hence C/CS. I would say PM me and I have a decent low cost BW, but since you are in AU it's probably better for you to PM one of the AU regulars (there are a few).

Whos specs are you reading? GE, Panasonic or cheap chinese OEM. Apples to apples doesn't work with OEM CCTV spec sheets.

The other encoder chip can use a serial number to prevent piracy. If so it's in software not something you manually enter.

HELP! I need to set up a wireless rig.
CollinR replied to nitronick's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I am down in McAlester however I have never actually done an install down here. I have done a few in installs in Edmond, I don't recognize your facility specifically. I must say though I didn't spend much time sight seeing either. I prefer wired over wireless whenever possible, so yes rather then spend the money on individual cameras and radios I would pocket the $ and wire them together with a single access point. Alot of the ground you showed would take less then 2 hours to wire and would save several thousand dollars. I can toally understand not wanting to trench your parking lot by about the longest possible path but cameras 50' part with a sidewalk as a barrier... I wouldn't suggest it to my customers even though it would be more profitable and easier for me. I assume this is an IP based solution? -

Anyone have any input on my option, I'd kinda like to learn something as I haven't done enough of these. -
Welcome and have fun.

does the kind of router / hub affect performance
CollinR replied to blowrabbit's topic in Video Transmission/Control Devices
No hubs should EVER be used in CCTV, only use real switches. EDIT: It sounds like you don't have any hubs in the system anyway. The long story YES just like everything else you get what you pay for. Cheap routers and switches mess up (excessive packet loss, fail to connect) and lock ups from time to time. -
Whever someone wants day/night but doesn't have the budget I sell them BW. You are soo much better off with a quality HR BW then a half ass day/night.
-
Yes make sure and turn off hybernation and really all of the power saver things... That box needs to run 24/7.

DON'T PUT VISTA ON A DVR! There is no upside to it, Vista has more system overhead and more bugs to work out.
-
Nope. You MUST maintain the twist in the wires too. You can untwist the pairs but you need to retwist them before taping/heat shrinking.

motion detection masking problem
CollinR replied to cctvfl's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Hit the + sign button then drag your box. You are probably on the remove mask setting as such if there is no selection it appears to do nothing. -

Don't let them get to you for tring to help them. I know it's strange but some people really do think it's okay to complain when they get free advise from professionals. I just blackball them... -
How to change ip address on linksys for port forwarding?
CollinR replied to pk5's topic in Computers/Networking
Hmm. If it's roadrunner business it shouldn't be blocking port 80. 192.168.52.x is only a valid INTERNAL IP, you will never be able to scan it that way remotely. If it scans anything that way its because there just happens to also be a 192.168.52.x on the network you are scanning from. If you wish to scan remotely or connect remotely you MUST use the IP of the router. You couldn't connect locally after changing the webcam port from 80 to 81 because you were probably not specifing the port to use (80 is default). Once changed you would have http://192.168.52.102:81 Any port used for http traffic other then 80 must be manually specified. You might ask a local network buddy to look at this, I know if I were there it would have been done a while back. However it difficult doing these configurations via a forum. -
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6300 P4M800PRO-M V2 Motherboard
CollinR replied to Arockerdude's topic in Geovision
You might look at a better brand, not real crazy about ECS. Try Asus and Abit, well worth it. Onboard video is offten IMO the best so don't buy a nicce video card for this thing. The Intel GMA950 + have worked great in many many systems for me. -
Is it like a GV650? or 800? I assume you are in the US? Does your machine meet the requirements?
-
I kinda doubt it's a bad card, this is plug and prey at it finest. Have you ever had a DVR card installed in this machine before?
-
Delete it from the device manager.

How to change ip address on linksys for port forwarding?
CollinR replied to pk5's topic in Computers/Networking
I am pretty sure Roadrunner blocks inbound port 80 for basic customers, swithing to 81 bypasses it. You would then need to specify the port when connecting: domain.org:81 Edit your posts after you are done to kill the record of your DynDNS info. Nobody will need it in the future and Google indexes this site rather well. -

CollinR replied to pk5's topic in Computers/Networking
What no screen cap of your software firewalls? CHECK'EM TWICE. Change the webcam port from 80 to 81. Recheck software firewalls for port 81. If that works DISABLE the DMZ Host IP Address, thats not a good thing. Recheck to see if it still works, if so you are done. -
Here she is, Heidi. A now 9 week old American style German Shepard. Of course Max is still kicking. He is not thrilled with Heidi but he hasn't eaten her either. At least she has quit tring to nurse from him. For those that don't know Max, thats a regulation basketball he claimed and popped. Now his favorite toy. Heidi is coming along fast in the first week we have gotten sit and lay down, down. Stay, heel and housetraining quickly coming along. I don't have the specs but dogs are like a milllion times more accurate then a photoelectric smoke detector and almost as good as exterior motions. Not to mention the deterrent factor of a 130lb agressive dog.

wireless system to watch mare foaling Urgent help needed
CollinR replied to peanut's topic in System Design
Don't be so sure of that. I've had some 1500p cams running wireless before, no problems in the picture quality dept. Did you know you can take a piece of pipe and smash one end, use a waterhose to NPT adapter on the other. Hook up your water hoses and you have a crappy mini waterjet. That will blast through under the cement. Not the fastest way ever but it does work. Thats how I do under sidewalks but I've also done wider spans as well. -

Yup and Yup. Also that specific router may have optional firmware available. If so you should at least consider it. Google "turn your $60 router into a $600 router" Happy reading.
