How to change ip address on linksys for port forwarding?
CollinR replied to pk5's topic in Computers/Networking
Go to DynDNS.com and setup a free dynamic DNS account. EDIT: Ax the next line... //Install the DynDNS updater client on the DVR machine. Thes two were more either/or not both. This is just another optional way of updating. Put your DynDNS info into the routers DynDNS page. Access the DVR from yourdomain.dyndns.com:8080 -
How to change ip address on linksys for port forwarding?
CollinR replied to pk5's topic in Computers/Networking
Your router IP is most likely the one in my avatar. Linksys will allow you ro specify and IP address in the connection tab. HOWEVER you MUST pay your ISP for a static IP, if you don't it won't work. To set it change the connection type from PPOE to Static and fill in the blanks with the data your ISP provided you (IP, gateway and DNS). If you know you are paying for a static address and their HDCP server is giving you dynamic ones and they didn't provide you the connection info. Usually you can just copy the info from the status page in the router. -
That depends but most PTZs shouldn't be powered over Cat5 anyway. If it's just a digital PTZ then it should work okay.

It works pretty well, I don't fully "get" it yet but it works. For some reason live view appears to support the full range of resolutions, but when I playback I get 800x600. Like I said I haven't fully tweaked it so it may just be in config. The TV out does not support IP cams, so note that if you wanted it.

Your motherboard choices get VERY small. I haven't built one yet but I would like to, lots of cool things come with mini-ITX. Also the price... You would think whats supposed to be an integrated solution could be cheaper then they are. I guess there just isn't enough demand in them to really get the prices down.

Yup I always compose long posts in a text editor and paste it over. When I read your thread I was going to offer to post the original for you assuming you had a copy. I assume you do not. *** Please keep in mind, before you came and this policy was created there was more spam. Almost every automated bot uses URLs and if they get denied 100% they will never reach the postcount required to post URLs. As a bonus the site staff doesn't need to manually delete them. Its only something like 10 posts too, so not difficult to aquire. With the quality of your past posts I doubt anyone would care if you just "BTT" this 3 times and get the 10 posts you needed. I'm not staff though so use your judgement.

If it's not twisted pair it's not Cat5, no worries. Riser is a specification for cabling just like plenum, it's VERY common with ethernet. Have you tried plugging that camera into a known good port on the DVR? What happens?
-
Still no luck. You router has about the worst reputation I have seen. I have seen threads on portfoward.com, broadbandreports.com and several gaming/filesharing forums. Many many never get port forwarding working properly. You make be stuck swapping the router or putting the DVR in the DMZ.

I kept quite since so many said it looked like siamese... It doesn't look like siamese to me at all, composite maybe. It looks just like riser rated Cat5 to me, I thought that was the problem. Not really with the picture but riser Cat5 outside.

Has that been there the whole time? Are there any other entries?

Even for the port 81 to 80? (80's blocked on the router) I did it, tell me if I should undo for 80. Try again to get in if you want. Also: --------- Here's the rundown of the Port Forwarding changes I made to the router: -- "Specify Public IP Address" box is checked and I entered the IP of the router into the text feild Uncheck this, this will cause other issues later on. The ISP will not hold that address for you unless you are paying for a static address. Good. Looks right, for now. Expect to need to change them from "any". Leave as is You might make one rule for Any>"Same as incoming port">192.168.1.6 Correct. I realize it makes little sence to forward all extrenal ports to a specific internal port. Usually I would never do this however in wading through people complaining about Actiontec routers I have found some doing it this way. They also have multiple ports. Make sure on the router's "General" page the security is set to "Typical Security"
-
Also: In the router change the "source port" to "any" and leave the destinations as they are. If that works your router has BS firmware and should be replaced. If that doesn't work I'm thinking it's because your router has BS firmware and should be replaced.

Do you have Norton, McAgfee, Sonos or other antivirus but more specifically firewall? If you do kill them or set execptions in them too.

I never told you to reboot the router. Probably a good idea after changing it's config. You can just pull the plug on it.

Does Geovision have the market on CCTV capture cards?
CollinR replied to videobruce's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
The only thing you couldn't do on Intel CPUs was unlock the CPU multiplier factor, you could still overclock them very well. Back in that time the 66 mhz FSB celeron was the one to clock as Abit and Asus had Intel chipset motherboards that would go from 66-200 1mhz at a time. This is almost entirely based on the motherboard and bios design. I had more issues with sound cards, NICs and modems from the modified FSB then the northbridge, Via or Intel. At that time AMD also wasn't actively promoting that you could hack their CPUs by a graphite trace from a pencil either. I can see you wanting an AMD CPU, it's just Via I can't. I have no problems with AMD. I am glad to see AMD take ATI, I hope they clean up ATIs act. - If you connect all your theater devices to the display and then the digital audio from the display to the reciever your PiP functions will work. Even PiP with secondary audio or mixer if the TV has it. Otherwise if running through the reciever you would need to loop them all out, which I haven't seen a reciever that can at any price. -
Panasonic requires certification to resell I-pro line.

The fact that it's not BS either is a nice bonus in this business too. -
1159,1259 and 13551 should all be valid exceptions in the windows firewall. Everything else looks like you should be good to go. For remote control you might have 3389 (Windows RDP) and 5900 (TightVNC) entered as exceptions but disabled (unchecked). This way you can ask for help by PMing your IP and protocol and then activating them.

Another Wintel conspiracy? Incompatable with Via chipsets.
CollinR replied to videobruce's topic in Geovision
Is it really Via chipsets you want to work or is it AMD CPUs? -

I think everyone else's point is this basically only effects Via, why can Sis make compatable chips? Via is cool for tiny embedded systems and thats really about it. What is an example of one of these features or functions only available in Via chipsets? -
HELP! I need to set up a wireless rig.

Okay I'll be the first to try and show my ignorance maybe many can learn something. This is how I think I would do it. -
Works. I'll add, if you put the plate on the inside your customers won't care. On the outside it will swell and warp and eventually fall apart, it'll last a good long while outside though.

Geo to go to 32 or more cameras on one computer?
CollinR replied to jeromephone's topic in Geovision
When I started hacking v8 I found all kinds of stuff that isn't actually an option in the final v8 product. There are optional window splits, I can't remember how I activated them but for a while I had a test box with different splits. I think they were the same splits that control center uses. This would alow for you to actually see more then 16. I saw some stuff that looked like 32 or 64 channel support. I saw stuff for IP cameras not using the Geovision encoder. (D@MN! They need to finish this!) I also noticed stuff for customized OEM installs. Kinda like XP Home Retail, Home OEM, Pro Retail and Pro OEM are all on the same disk it's just a switch in an ini file (and your license...) that controls the installation. -

I wouldn't make such a quick link between Intel and Windows, it's not quite like that. Via chipsets have in the past had limitations in the PCI bus, you will find all throughput depended PCI bus hardware to say no go on Via. It's not just Geovision, it's not just CCTV it's everything that pushes the PCI bus. Also Via doesn't always support the crossbar inside hardware cards that have multiple encoders on board. So sometimes they do work but you only have access to the first encoder. I would be very skeptical of DVR cards that use the PCI bus and claim 100% Via compatible. PCI Express may well change that though, different system bus. Not too many DVR cards out there to test it with, not to mention the cost. EDIT: This is also a guideline, feel free to buy a bunch and test. -
Hi Resolution IP Cameras
CollinR replied to dennisdil's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Rory, try out an Arecont 3130 before fully buying into what people have said CMOS can and can't do. I agree 99% of it is crapola but not 100%, that last 1% is pretty sick. I just wish Arecont sold a BW only model a little cheaper, still I wouldn't hesistate to put it up against an extreme. Even though it isn't an LPR camera it does fine and can actually do multi lane decently. Bang : Buck it'll smoke 'em ruthlessly as it's far superior picture and cheaper to boot. It has good bang:buck against the SDIII pannys boxes even though it's twice the money. Arecont also has a 360* 8 mega pixel camera thats actually attainable. No idea on how the software works though. (and a 180* too) cctv_down_under, I think I have seen the same demo, the interface acted as if it was analog 4:3 aspect but in playback you could still PT through the 360 fluidly, and rather then zoom you just get closer to a 1:1. It did look SWEET though. Kinda hard to discribe that functionality though, very cool.
