If you study the PDF on that you'll find: RAID shouldn't be required though. Granted usually only RAID controlers have hot swap capabilities. Asus has some motherboards that support hot swap SATA on the onboard SATA controller.
-
No experience with that one but the others I have seen are bring your own RAID controller. Basically just a way to get more external drive trays into normal cases. Hence the name 3 into 2, it's just being able to have 3 where normally you could only have 2.

I use a 13' little giant knockoff for 90% of my stuff (Werner, Lowes ~$100), There is no way I would carry a conventional ladder around anymore. Also these ladders make stairwell smokes much easier, if you do alot of them I would go for a taller version then the 13'. I have gotten most of my quoting and service stuff to fit in a Toyota Corolla rather then my install truck. Makes a big difference in gas and the folder ladder fits in the trunk no problem. I do need a tall A frame for installing PTZs and vandal domes in drop ceilings quite often but that's basically it. Once I have the supports up in the rafters the little one can handle most everything else. I wish mine was fiberglass though.

You might be able to hack one of those game cameras to do this.
-
OCZ has some good stuff, I personally prefer Crucial but for CCTV I have never had a problem.
-
Yes and you can do it by camera as well. In the configuration menu choose local passwords. Once inside choose the startup user and I just ax all of their controls. Then configure each username access to exactly whatever you want them to.

Xp home and Dvr card software
CollinR replied to paratonerali's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
All my servers are preconfigured for TightVNC and RDP and the Geovision terminal services if it's a Geovision system. I prefer RDP, however VNC is the choice for customer training as you can share user sessions with it. -
Depends on the DVR and your skill level. Yes it's very possible however it's beyond most people's skill levels. You will probably want something more like this. DVR>Local Network Transcoder>...Internet...>HTML web page For most DVRs you will want to transcode to a streaming feed your user's web browsers can directly handle without downloading anything. This also gives you the option to protect it with a watermark or logo overlay and configure it to be more browser friendly.
-
All CCTV motion detection is based on the percentage of the image the change makes up. The more you zoom into objects the greater the percentage of the feed they take up and hence the more sensitive to their motion your system will be.

Can't help you but it'll be uber cool once figured out. The IR remote simply emulates keypresses, Geo MUST have focus for their remote to work. It is definately not based on windows sendmessage.

Very cool.

It's pretty rare when you can get 100% capture, toll booths and drive throughs do pretty good. Basically in OK if they are pulling a private trailer there is a good chance you won't get the plates, same for 2nd car following close. We have no front plates here, maybe different where you are.

You can also use MCE, cheaper then pro but allows RDP in. You have to disable all the MCE services as they interfer with the capture cards but otherwise smooth. -

Ulead DVD Factory. ISO basically so he wouldn't have to build the VOBs to make a DVD normal players (not PC) can use. Strange I'll look into it when I get back home. -

Okay heres my versions. They are all ISOs so just burn them to a DVD -R for dedicated players. DVD format with integrated player for PC use. You can burn to DVD-* PCs don't care. http://LowVoltageOnline.com/web-stuff/geo-help/caught-dvd.iso If you are rural enough like me that the cops don't actually have computers with DVD drives try this one. vvvv http://LowVoltageOnline.com/web-stuff/geo-help/dvd.iso Burn that to a DVD-R and they can play it in a normal DVD player. I am assuming you have some experience burning, ISO files require no interaction in Nero. Just pick it and choose the drive and insert the proper disk. ----------------- Here is an MPEG version with some enhancements done. http://LowVoltageOnline.com/web-stuff/geo-help/caught-enhanced.mpg -

You have a PM -
That should be the absolute no questions best case senario for a cheap IR cam. You can't compare that to looking into a good sized open space without a lot of stuff to bounce the IR off of.

What do you think of Intel Mobos?
CollinR replied to rory's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I've never tried that model Rory, I wouldn't be opposed to it. Right now you need to be usre you get an IDE port (that model does), I order something in Nov that was all SATA. I didn't think that was a problem until I went looking for a SATA DVDRW. I'm sure there is more available now but you'll pay a premium for jack. IDE can transfer faster then the fastest drives can read so SATA is totally not needed. -

I'll take the Intel MGA 950 over NVIDIA or ATI on my CCTV servers anyday. I like Intel but I actually use Asus more currently. For gaming the GMA isn't it but CCTV has no need for a high end video card. I even have some theater servers using the GMA just fine, it results in more CPU load as the GMA does not have native hardware support for MPEG but on a modern P4 it's not a big deal. IMHO the bigger issue is pick one, get to know it fully and build a good disk image. -
I think it's the email SMS messaging Doug is looking for. Well now me too actually. If I find something I'll post it.

I have noticed alot of the dealers here use VNC to support their client's systems but I never hear of using RDP or Remote Assistance. Wassup with that? I guess I am totally backwards as I only use RDP and RA to support my clients. I haven't played too much with VNC but from what I have I wasn't overly impressed at the surface. There was a time when RDP was considered a security concern, I dunno about the validity of that but here is a MS KB article that I think discusses the the idea. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324380/en-us Looks like one has been dealt with and I'm not overly concerned about a remote attacker crashing either machine, nobody really cares about either of the boxes.
