    Accessing dvr remotely

    1. If you have a static IP your ISP should have provided you a gateway, primary and secondary DNS servers. You may well be able to put it into DHCP mode and it may get it automatically. If it does write it down and change the router back to static mode, fill in the blanks from what you wrote. 2. No, you can use many ports if you like, if you use a port other then 80 you will want to configure the router to forward it from whatever port you want back to 80 to the DVR's static internal IP address. (I'm not sure your router supports port forwarding, you may have to get another...)

Why not take it to the dealer who sold it to you, part of what you paid for was service/support.
  3. Nope, thats further why I said furnture. Often they don't want the camera and couldn't care less how it's mounted. If they can see it somebody will *** and parties over. So it's usually like a really crappy covert install too.
  4. No, we typically get 1-2 foot waves back there. However, I just thought of this and it may sound crazy but, have you ever intalled a camera on a free standing cinder block or something similar? I don't have to worry about vandals because I'm 3 stories up. This could be good. I'm the one that mentioned the underside of patio furniture in the other thread. I have done something like this before (condo>car, 13th floor). I had envisioned an iron table, if you have a slab for a balcony you can bolt it down as well. Better then a cynder block is the old 5 gallon bucket full of concrete, just stab a pipe in it and use a pole mount for the housing. Look around your condo, somebody has already done it with a satellite dish.
  5. You could actually put the cameras on the boat... If it has shore power just install everything down there and wirelessly shoot it back to the condo. You be able to use much cheaper cameras and have much better coverage.

You should put a test monitor on one of the feeds. I know it seems obvious but I had a dealer call me last week after after going through something like this just to find he had the pigtail in the wrong port. EDIT: If you do a port range forward 3300>6500 to the DVR and PM me an admin login and your IP/domain I can look at the config with control center. Then you don't need to configure VNC, just startup all the CMS servers.
  7. These are USED!!! 4 channel (BNC style) 30fps capture cards daisy channed for an 8/60 setup. They have the hardware watchdog prewired for the chain. This model has a baseband video output (RCA style). These appear to be the AS100v2 model. I also have a software license and the dongle to activate it. Read all you want at Alnetsystems.com http://www.alnetsystems.com/index.php?lg=en&str=drs_oem Host requirements: Intel Pentium III 1 Ghz processor. 256 MB RAM, Motherboard Intel chipset based *), Minimum 20GB hard disk, LAN adapter or modem (if remote view should be supported), Windows 2000/XP operating system. *) - VDRS PRO OEM works also with the motherboards VIA chipset based but the performance could be less than with Intel chipset. Thats from them... I'd say recommended... P4 2.0+ CPU Intel Northbridge ONLY 512MB RAM 2 drives - 1 for XP and the other for video storage and logging. 10/100/1000 NIC XP pro These worked ~okay~ when pulled, I (and some other contractors) had lots of problems remotely connecting to it. So AS-IS, there was no obvious reason for the networking troubles. It could have been a specific hardware conflict between these cards and the PCI NIC. I don't know or care I just swapped them out. I don't stock Alnet or know much about them so I can't give you any support after the sale. You should consider this all sales final, no returns, no warantee. Now I will say, the cards are physically in excellent condition and will not be DOA, as far as the Alnet software working correctly all bets are off as I have only seen the Alnet demo servers working correctly. $100 shipped ground in the US
  8. SOLD! to UMDRanger, ships today.
  9. I slit the carpet and stitch it back with fishing line. If the carpet has shag that is. If it's glued to the slab you are borked. Also you can pull the mouldings and drill into the wall behind them, notch the drywall so the moulding goes back nicely.

It's the "like" part I'm concerned with. Like to me means the same as, if you do that it won't work. The router should be default to an internal IP of 192.168.2.1, DON'T change it. (Well you can just make sure you know what to and why.) Set your DVR to IP: 192.168.2.2 Mask: 255.255.255.0 DNS1: 192.168.2.1 DNS2: blank Their manuals are so bad I don't even know if the router supports forwarding or not, you may need to upgrade it. Your ISP will give you a WAN static IP address and DNS servers, this only complicates it from this point. You will have to manually configure your router for this in addition to the port forwarding.

Okay I think you have really shafted yourself now. Set the DVR computer to DHCP mode (Automatic everything network settings). Attempt to get into your router's config. 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 whatever was the factory defaut, if you really set this as the same static IP as the DVR you may have to factory reset it using the hardware switch. What is the make/model of your router? This will effect how any of us help you.

I also suggest setting your DHCP pool as small as possible and have your static IPs before it. IE DHCP 192.168.1.10 - 192.168.1.15 (6 dynamic computers) 192.168.1.1 - router internal 192.168.1.2 - CCTV server This will prevent problems when rebooting servers, no DHCP users will ever get their static address.
  13. Does that mean I can tap into that junction box for power? You can but you'll need to pull all the high voltage back to the previous drop and remove the wires. Basically it would be easier to put a LV box 12" over from it.
  14. Think again... I can do it but it would be at least $1500, no zoom. It would however actually work consistently. You proably won't need optical zoom if you use a megapixel camera, they can digitally zoom very well. Basically you set the lens up to show the widest video you must have, if your subject takes up 1/4 of the frame you'll have a 640x480 image (=analog camera) of the object without zooming at all. You should easily be able to pull off x2 digital zoom, which means 1/8 of the feed will be close to 640x480. Also with IP you can put it on a wireless link so the camera only needs power. Put it in an enclosure and mount it to the understide of your patio table. I can't see your HOA complaining about that.

    Time Lapse Video with BNC

If by RF you mean baseband you just need a BNC>RCA adapter. If by RF you mean channel modulated, you can use many VCRs to demodulate it.
  16. Because this is dongle protected it's software is freely available over the web. ftp://alnetsystems.com/install/vdrs/ I'm not sure which version it is but I would start with the most current version and go backwards until it works. EDIT: I could arrange config via RDP or VNC since you probably don't have alot of experience with these. You would have to get your network forwarded to the box properly.

Need advice on Good 32ch DVR card or 2 16ch Geo

Go 800 and make sure its v8.
  18. Get EventGhost and any of it's supported devices, USBIRT reciever is probably best, not cheapest. Like I said I like my X10 RF remote and most of those are supported by EventGhost. I think you are doing an inversion of what I am doing, either way if you want IR>Serial, IR>TCP, IR>System anything, IR>Keyboard or any matrix of those you can dream up. EventGhost is a good option.
  19. You can do it, use the pairs by color. You'll need to supply remote power or run it along with a power carring cable. This is best when going building to building, otherwise if the cameras are less then ~100-200' away you are better off with coax.
  20. ? F9 gets you into config. You might look at the Geo remote and see how they did their OSD, if you like it you might just hack from there. I don't know about this... You can't use authentication, X Native EventGhost support, system messages Native EventGhost support, system messages Native EventGhost support, system messages Granted I am trying to run the whole system with a remote or keyboard emulation, remote config by VPN>RDP by service. I could put some hardware buttons on it, it's not a big deal to go USB IO inside the case. I really love that program, once you get the hang of it you can get pretty in depth. For instance, in my bedroom I have a BeyondTV client that I control with an X10 RF remote, free with MX440 card anyway it at first appeared to only work with the NVIDIA software which was extremely limited. I tried EventGhost and was hooked, it has software switches you can use to make certain commands availble or unavailable or differing outputs. So Ulead DVD player and Winamp work flawlessly as well, focus can be dealt with. It really makes it easy to control multiple applications which doesn't help you much in this but is very cool.

anybody else having problems with Paypal?

I have a buddy this happened to, an employee used a keylogger to gain access to his paypal account. I do the same, I also have the bank agree to me personally authorizing all electronic (paypal) transactions. So basically it's a one way street but I don't buy anything with paypal so it makes no difference to me. I'm sure it's a violation of their terms of use but when my average transaction is several thousand dollars I don't have the capital to deal with their investigation policies. I have issued my share of refunds through paypal so they should know I'll give it back if the transaction isn't going to work properly. ------- Oddly though the only time I've been had was through the card issuer, I ordered a new card. Within 2 weeks somebody had gone to a horse track in FL and emptied it through an ATM. Obviously they had the card and they had the PIN togther, my last bank said no fraud no refund. My current bank gave me a copy of all the related legislature and was able to get the $ back. Obviously they got my business too. Thats pretty crazy though, the guy had the card and the pin.
  22. Okay if you use the drivers for the keyboard you get the IR too. I haven't gotten the IR reciever recognized by EventGhost BUT I have captured what it is doing via it's keyboard commands. Very interesting, if you guys need to know any of the functions the remote contains that aren't listed on the hotkey menu let me know. ie Launch Viewlog Keyboard.LCtrl+LAlt+2 launch OSD Keyboard.LCtrl+Return The function keys across the top are. Keyboard.LCtrl+LAlt+1 Through Keyboard.LCtrl+LAlt+8 only the first two are used by Geovision. The pad only supports Up Dn L and R, no diagonals so mouse use wouldn't be too fun.
  23. I gotta ask, why not use the GV Remote? I do have a GV250 here that appears to not support full screen or the remote. Maybe you are in that boat? EDIT: Nevermind I see what you are doing. You may well be able to use the GV remote and EventGhost to get this done. It all depends on getting the GV IR reciever recognized, I may play with this some later as I have both here. EDIT x2!: I NEED GEOVISION IR REMOTE DRIVERS!!! I want to test this on a system without a capture card.
  24. We have good support for Arecont Vision in our system. We are selling AV cameras by ourself and I think it is quite good camera and together with our soft VDRS NetStation works great. Please see more: ftp://alnet.pl/brochures/EN ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Do you capture and record Arecont cameras at full resolution ? Do I have choice to set resolution Thanks Alex, I have played with Arecont or a variation from the original manufacturer. Work well thus far, I really like them.
