Source for less than 1000FT RG59 Siamese cable?
CollinR replied to Hillman's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
List your location, most of the dealers here can do that for you. Expect to pay a fee for it though. You can't take an internet discount rate unknown quality 1000' spool and divide the price by 5. Basically if you asked me to do it, it would probably be the 500' spool internet price. -

Yup buy the pro version. Of course the free version isn't for commercial use anyway. -
RAID 10 if you have 4 or more disks in the array.

I think I am going to go with BW cameras…
CollinR replied to Hillman's topic in General Digital Discussion
Can you draw a picture of your property for me, it's difficult to invision. How far away is the gate? Do you have line of sight with the gate from any point on your home (second floor, only from the chimney...)? If the main purpose is just to see if the gate properly opens and closes, you won't need alot of camera. It would be far better if you get a box camera and a long lense and housing then a junk wireless setup. How far is the garden? How large are the critters you wish to capture? (IE Rabbits at 100' away will have a VERY narrow field of view.) Do you have any overhead power lines? -

It sounds like you are on the right track. If you go with a box camera Fujinon has a fractional F stop lens (F .97), very good for low light. What's your budget? -
Rory is on it, you don't want to transcode the Geo files to MPEG or MPEG2 on the DVR itself. Backup the files and then transcode them on another machine if you like. Transcoding is a serious resource hog. You might be able to do it with control center though, I dunno.

Never really been sold on NVR's...yet
CollinR replied to carrseom's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The biggest problem with NVRs is the crappy IP (and way overpriced) cams and the cost of the decent ones. A subnet dedicated to cameras is preffered but most IP manufacturers act like you can run them over your existing, thats pretty hit and miss. -

Will this DVR have access to the internet? Is this a single purpose DVR? How many machines will be on it's local network? How big a geek are ya? -
RAID 0 provides no protection, thats why it's not really RAID (the Redundent part) there isn't alot of difference between RAID 0 and JBOD. If one drive fails all the data in the array is lost, I wouldn't suggest it. RAID 0 does however probably provide the best read/write performance.
-
Does drive mapper create something like a *nix symlink? If you could symlink the files from C:\WINDOWS to D:\* this could be done.
-
RAID 0 isn't really RAID, you want RAID 1 or better yet RAID 10.

These are just illuminators not cameras, you can use your HQ cams with these more budget illuminators. I personally will not buy an IR/camera combo, they don't work well in my area. Also the IR dies before the camera so it's nice to be able to swap them out. They are under accessories rather then cameras, that might be why you haven't found them.

Yes you can do all of that, and Avermedia surely has their software presetup to not write to the disk after installation. Most have the system create a RAM drive that stores all the stuff the OS needs to read/write during operation, then it's all dumped on reboot. It would take some time to really get their original disk image figured out.

I did some digging to see what I could find. http://dom.pqimemory.com/DOMProduct/ProductHome.php?pid=7&click=1 Looks like it, and no write protection at all. The good. If you have enough skill you can hack the image however you like. This is a major bonus to me as I can't every seem to leave anything un tinkered. The bad. Having a hardware lock on the DOM assures that the OS has been configured correctly to never write to the disk once the installation is complete (excellent example on the IP address). These DOMs are extremely limited on writes so if the windows swap file or cache are written to the DOM often it will die, also hardware locking it reduces the possiblity of corrputing the data for the OS and boot.

Eyemax Dvr repair in Dallas area?
CollinR replied to jennybdc's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Oh no you are all good at this point You have the highest level password. You need to find a way to get into it's configuration, often they use an icon that looks like tools. I service all kinds of DVRs but never specifically an Eyemax, it shouldn't be too difficult. -

Okay the first problem sounds like it may be solved with DVR configuration. Did they give you a password that allows you to get into the DVR settings? You have to enable every camera you wish to use. The other issue is on the PC you are connecting with, you need to back down your security settings. Then install the DVR's remote viewing software, then if you likie ramp your security back up. -

overhaul of wiring for a 4 camera setup
CollinR replied to za's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I wouldn't use mini coax, just go to a local supplier and get regular RG59u and 18-2 siamese. The picture quality will be noticable, you should only use mini coax where you have to (inside AV racks). The stripping of coax is no big deal if thats what you are concerned about. -
The video card should be fine. I am kinda surprised that ATIs chipsets also cause problems, I hate ATI though so I don't care too much.

A mild suggestion... Might look into budding up with a hosting company. The best thing about hosting companies is their bandwidth is often going the other way. Either that or start hosting webspace too, your current subsciption system might be able to handle some of that too.
-
Can you edit their disk image? Do you happen to have a DOM you can get more pics of? They often have a switch on the DOM to prevent writing to it. I wish I had checked this before I called Alex this morning.

No logic behind it but we consider those stand alone.
