    geovision gv200

You got scammed, see if you can get your $ back. I'm usually not so confident but there is no authentic GV200. I might be wrong but I kinda doubt it.

    Interlaced vs. Progressive CCDs

Progressive has interlaced dead to rights. When you are googling, you can also just look at TVs (interlaced) vs DVDs (either or but most big movies are progressive). Video is video if you only search in CCTV you will miss alot. Interlacing http://www.doom9.org/video-basics.htm Progressive scanning is like those picture books you flip through as a kid, you get a complete image in each cycle instead of alternating halfs like you do with interlacing.

can ir cameras point out windows

My vote, try to get your money back. I pretty sure this is never going to work out for you, buying from ebay makes me think very limited budget. This isn't a limited budget solution, I doubt it can even be done reasonably with 1 camera. You might try some hi res BW bullets with lenses and an illuminator.

can ir cameras point out windows

You can't to my knowledge generate colors with only IR light.

    Newbie in CCTV

Sometimes it's cheaper to use lots of little HID lights, from your districption I see no need for convertness. Unless the customer specifically wants invisible light it's much cheaper and more reliable to use conventional lighting. You might be surprised by how little light the cameras need, 200w floodlights are pretty cheap and put out lots of light. Unfortunately they also draw more power, there is a tradeoff in the middle depending on the size of the warehouse. The reason with the lens is probably due to those cameras having a tighter beam and more power.

New to Forum and need camera advice

Adding to that, BW is another option that will drop the cost and works in changing light/IR.

Remote viewing over LAN not web

Do you have a NAT router installed? It really doesn't matter though, it won't broadcast anything unless a user requests it and is authenticated.

    760nm filter for IR??

I'm impressed, strong work man! Where did you find your filter?
  9. Range shouldn't be too much of an issue I don't see 2 cameras being more then 100 yards apart line of sight shouldn't be an issue. 8-16 cameras, solar stuff is interesting as well although battery power shouldn't be too big of a problem (no IR on batts).

    home system - need advice

bw1, If you live in an area with a good spider population, be aware they love IR and will build webs on all the emitters if allowed. If you have the IR built into the camera, one strand of spider silk across the lens can reflect enough IR back into the camera to white it out. Obviously the more powerful the IR the worse the effect. Also the IR will probably die before the camera. Basically I am against the IR on the camera solutions unless that stuff has been addressed. You could easily save a few bucks and use a Geo 250-6 same support, but the 250 line is cheaper and survived all the software revisions thus far. The downside is alot of the accesories don't support the 250 anymore (GV-NET/IO) and so you are limited but it's stuff you probably won't buy anyway. It does show me it's probably due for replacement or may not be around forever. I also don't buy into it's rated framerate (which has varied over the years).
  11. Picture quality is of the importance that I haven't found an acceptable IP camera. These are all outdoors and no lighting control, IR very possible.
  12. I too am VERY interested in this for portable systems.

    Open Cash Register Drawer Remotely

I agree, I personally wouldn't do. Might if I had good means of closing it but still doubtful. I only see downsides to this. Now being able to lock the register remotely... That might be cool.
  14. Just put the distributed PS on the UPS too, then the PC will go down first. I personally also put the networking gear on the UPS too.
  15. Whats causing the video loss?
  16. Oh I see, nevermind. I would just wait for Geo to be ready, if you can't wait use a TV (BNC>RCA adapter) that you can later use somewhere else in your home. Basically the bang for the buck factor on CCTV monitors is really bad... You can get an ED TV for the same or often less $ and it has 700+ lines which is more then any of your cameras put out. I say wait for Geo.

    GV interface with access control

Elk has boatloads of relays and timers, they actually have one for door actuation. You will also find some problems in places that Geo is NO and you may need NC, Elk can fix that for you too. http://www.elkproducts.com/products/elk-960.htm
  18. Don't do it... Get a cheap CRT from tigerdirect.com or locally.

    Wireless VGA Extender

I would do wifi and a laptop before wireless VGA anyday.
  20. Anybody know anything about this? Really a software developer? Do they manufacture hardware? User experiences?

    Alnet

Thanks for the reply, you did better then Alnet did! I got no responce from them today. Do you know if they provide access to the source code? I have played with java some in the past. I got onto this because I have a customer who bought a bunch of these and is less then impressed. It's really an installer issue as something isn't configured properly for remote access. The other issue is it appears Alnet has no central station application to support more then 16 DVRs.
  22. I doubt anything on ebay is legit... Ebay is basically price only, you might as well buy it at wal-mart.

    GV-800 with media center pc

Hauppage tuner/encoders? I have done it on XP pro so I would assume it will work. I would never sell one to a customer though.
  24. You ~could~ bounce it off another router or proxy but geeze what a PITA. I can't believe they blocked 8080, further I can't believe you can't change the ports on the client. Dunno what to tell ya, you might look elsewhere for a supplier with more configuration options.
  25. Leave the DVR alone set it back to default ports. You can use port forwarding in your router to redirect the outside ports to the correct internal ports. Ext. 8086>8080 Int. Then you'll need to reconfigure the client to make the requests on 8086. If your activex HTML works on 8080 the port isn't blocked by the ISP, end of story unless this is local access. I have only heard of 80 (make webserver difficult) and 21 (make spamming difficult).
