Okay now I have it down to only the password config being borked. It doesn't autologin or know camera names anymore. They hid this pretty good, I thought for sure my last round of uninstall/reinstall would get it. I manually deleted alot more stuff and dug through the registry still no luck.

v8.01 This system at one time had an older version of the software and a different hardware card. It seem to me it is using a fraction of the old configuration but not all of it. The passwords obviously don't work but it is stuck with autologin and it has the old camera names and only the first for channels enabled (used to be GV250-4 old, old, system. Hence the XP sp0 ). The drivers and v8.01 software installed without a problem and local video appears to work fine. The current card is the GV800 I won earlier this month, I put it in my work desktop and it worked fine but I bought bcak this older geo system and I thought I would just use it as a dedicated box.

If you are a DIYer thats quite the siggy. Pelco D for both, obviously the PT won't work but the Z should. Your ID seem familiar, do you have a media server or HTPC too?

RG59 BNC Compresion Connectors
CollinR replied to Secure_It_Video's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
Ditto. IMO the best part about twist-ons is when you do screw it up all you need to do is start over. At the most you waste an inch or two of cable but you can reuse the terminal a couple few times without problem. You could have your stripper setup wrong or you are tring to put the wrong terminal on the right cable or vise versa. I doubt you could get an RG59 compression terminal on an RG6QS. Also you still have to ram it in there and usually twist, you might get some RG59 F type compression terminals. They are easier to learn with as you can see how far in the insulation is when compressed properly. BNC terminals you kinda have to do blind. -
You got it.

NEED HELP CHOOSING DVR/DVRCARD NEED 32CH 920fps
CollinR replied to badbeats310's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Do realize there is no brand name... How will you get drivers and support? I am betting thats bogus, I bet it will do 640x480 across maybe 8 channels per card for a total of 16 in their "32 channel" configuration. I just don't see that being valid. Not to mention no reputable dealers sell on eBay. -
NEED HELP CHOOSING DVR/DVRCARD NEED 32CH 920fps

To my knowledge it doesn'r exist at 640x480 capture. If you buy it on ebay you can be assured it won't work. -
You shouldn't do it that way, you can put the solid blue and orange together and the striped blue and orange together. The Video + and - MUST be twisted together blue/blue+white and orange/orange+white. If you put video + on blue and - on orange you have defeated the rejection provided by twisting the pairs. I don't typically do this though, the video shouldn't need to be doubled and I always use 18/2 for power. Basically I always put the + on the solid wires and the - on the stripes. You should never have a solid spliced to a stripe. Here is a picture that might help.

What is the make and model of the camera? Bullet cameras need very little power to operate, an IR cannon one the other hand might draw an amp and a half all by itself. Are you using 1 pair for power or 2?

Kodicom/Diginet DVR card question
CollinR replied to bviewer's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
If you buy this stuff on ebay and it actually works you should turn cartwheels. Ebay CCTV = 50% illegal, 30% trash, 20% decent used. -
Reading 12vdc with no load doesn't verify you have power out that far. How much power does the camera draw? How many pairs are you using? I have also have this with tight bends and poor splices in cat5. Also obviously I have had defective cameras that did this.

YEs it sounds like it has been setup with a patrol or preset. In the manuals you should find how to modify or delete them.
-
Check your temps, many BIOS are setup to shutdown before something fries. You might also check manually HDs don't usually have sending units and they can shut down due to heat exhaustion.

I love Abit boards, MSI are more budget. I also refuse to use ATI though.

You probably have a illegal setup then. :^( Buying from reputable dealers is a MUST, that cheap eBay deal isn't going to wind up so cheap in the end. :^( -
You could also put an NC relay to an alarm port that stopped recording, have the relay trip when power is lost. Then you will have the runtime of the UPS for it to stop.

Newbie: new camera wiring to 2 TVs
CollinR replied to tek944's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
BNC "T"s will allow what you want if you run the second RG59 to each room. You should also consider a modulator if you will be using analog cable TV. -
PC based systems with P4 processors and 256MB+ RAM will scan a whole lot faster then the single use systems like that which are probably on the order of 300Mhz/32MB RAM. I know one of mine takes about 15 minutes to scan and verify 350GB of video and log data. If the DVR was new/empty it would go alot faster if not instantly.
-
Describe the problem better, do you mean on power up you want it to go to a different preset? Do you mean that if unattended it goes to an undesirable preset?

What about not using mobile broadband, like say hardwired cable or DSL at your buddies house?

Digital Looks Good On CRT, Bad On LCD
CollinR replied to Randy's topic in General Digital Discussion
It all depends on the install, if they need local control obviously they get a computer monitor. If they want a monitor (or second, or third...) say behind the cash register unless they already have a "CCTV monitor" they get a SD TV. I can't justify the cost difference between the two, that display will never be used for identification or review so it doesn't need to be anything special. As was mentioned 330, 350, 380, 420 and 470 line cameras look better on 330-480 line TVs then they do all blown up on HD displays like computer monitors. -
I don't have Speco experience but that sounds rather normal. It probably has some intellegent circuitry that has a time delay to keep it from repeatedly tring to boot during short power outages. The capacity of the hard drive will dictate how long it take to verify the video and log files. You might consider putting it on an UPS, which IMO is a basic part of all installs. MPEG files don't like being cut off between keyframes due to anything especially not power failure.

No they haven't gone bust, just simply contact the dealer you purchased the card from and they should provide you the software. -
Do you have a monitor you can connect directly to the camera? You should bench test this stuff first that way you know you have the correct power at the cam and can rule out any possible wiring issues.
