Thats a classic DSL modem not a "D#%!! newfangled DSL modem". The new ones have the PPPOE client and a DHCP server built in, you can just add a switch and do the port forwarding inside them once you find out what you have and they haven't tried to lock you out.
-
Thats illegal in alot of places. Whats the make and model? Alot of the time a downloader can unlock it, thats how they do it to allow service.
-
If you provide it I'll spruce it up and fire it back at you with an access DB that will allow you to print them on the fly based on your DVR's specific needs. (you gotta fill that in yourself though, and you will need a version of MSAccess).
-
Anyone have one? Just a basic generic one that I can customize some, its nice on the bigger jobs to just explain it and have them fill out the form. This way you know your IP and available service ports apon install. Great for remote admin situations... You can fax it to me if you like 9184230930, you may have to press manually send after it picks up.

Scart is only in Europe, insert RCA or composite. Yup you can go directly from camera to TV/VCR with a BNC/RCA adapter. Thats how I do door cameras, Cam>BNC "T" one leg to local LCD one leg back to the DVR. You don't really want to modulate each camera, get a DVR with a multiplex output and modulate that.

Digital Watchdog Pro, Model No. DW7016. Install software.

How long have you been waiting? Did you buy it from them or through a dealer? -
Buy one 500 tvl bullet and see before you spend any more $ What DVR and capture settings? less then 640x480 is less then ideal. You are limited by the NTSC standards in the DVR capture card so an 8MP digital camcorder won't significantly out perform a hi res pro CCTV camera. Use it's firewire capability and you are in a different ballgame in another hemisphere, crazy difference. Can you get a screen capture? Ctrl+Print Screen then paste in a photo editor.

having trouble with remote viewing of cameras
CollinR replied to Thump's topic in Computers/Networking
DSL or Cable? First you need to deal with name resolution so your DVR is easier to find, go to DynDNS and sign up for a free account that has a DYNAMIC service attached. Choose a domain you will remember (ie thump.is-a-geek.net ). Make sure you write down the login info they provide. On the DVR give it a static IP, for you 192.168.1.2 should work great. On the router (use linksys's site for help, default is 192.168.1.1 PW admin) forward the following ports to your DVR's IP (192.168.1.2). Like this Outside>Inside 81>80 192.168.1.2 3000>3000 192.168.1.2 3000>3001 192.168.1.2 3003>3003 192.168.1.2 3005>3005 192.168.1.2 4000>4000 192.168.1.2 8800>8800 192.168.1.2 Next on the router is setup your previsouly created dyDNS account, I think thats under advanced but it's pretty obvious the router only has so many variables. If you don't have a new DSL all in one modem you should be good to go and can access the DVR with the web client from Thump.is-a-geek.net:81 Your remote client software will only need the domain thump.is-a-geek.net without specifing a port as they were left default in forwarding. Look at the pics of the cards if the chip says conexant on it it will supply 30fps mpeg2 multiple chips you can multiply the framerate (you probably want 4 = ~120 fps) most use software to transcode to mpeg4 later but not required or you can use Divx or Xvid with Gordian Knot on your own. There are many other hardware decoders out there but I have more experience with the bt878 used in HTPCs. Geovision uses these chips on some of thier capture cards (IIRC up to 4 120 fps), geovision also has software internally to transcode to mpeg4/H.264. HTH and you are on the right track.

Depends on the proxies config, you could always try another...

You can often tell alot by looking at the old controller.

Problems with Kodicom 8800 and Intel 945 & 915 chipset..
CollinR replied to martell's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Try creating another user in XP, set the screensaver to log to the login prompt and call it on startup. Your system startup will be slowed by alot but you might be able to login on another admin account with the DVR running as the first. They should all follow geovision with this, it often makes troubleshooting them a PITA because some of the functions are only running with the software. Yes too true since this guy hasn't even told us what is application is... Not only that but if the DVR is woth anything it should be able to multi task to some extent with reliability, most of mine handle other basic functions voicemail/faxing capacity is a very common add-on. 80% of my customers just want to know who is at the door when the bell rings, not mission critical. -
Camera Motion Detection Not ready For Prime Time?
CollinR replied to ForestCat's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
If you can arm Geo like that, you can map one of it's relay's to every camera or area and have the alarm use use those as contacts just put your EOL across them. ... Of course the first time you get caught in the US, big fine and possibly loose your license forever. These things are not held to the same standards as life saving devices and although they may seem great and highly reliable none that I know of are actually UL listed. This is also why the systems like Honeywell and Tyco are crazy expensive, they have to recoup those development and testing costs. Those systems have junky specs and crazy prices which is why they never get mentioned but they are UL listed for doing this stuff. -
Most HDs have a copy tool, you can probably just buy it and pull the drive then go to that mfgr's website and buy the 300GB capacity of their drive. I have used the Maxtor utility many times.

Stand alone system for remote area - Advice needed!
CollinR replied to kao's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I think you mean dialup... Dialup is a viable option but you would have to have dedicated lines as the daytime motion would take all night to backhaul. Really this guy may wind up storing onsite and having to go out there. It sucks when there is no broadband available but that doesn't mean VCRs are better, he won't have to change the damn tapes. -
Camera Motion Detection Not ready For Prime Time?
CollinR replied to ForestCat's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Check out the Elk M1 controls, it would suprise me if they don't integrate some kind of video support in the near future. They have a high capacity for logic and communicates using ASCII serial or TCP/IP so controlling a DVR with one isn't a huge expectation. It also already has a web server so it's just a few geek hours from possible. Prolly ~$2k and you should be able to OEM it if you can edit the web files. You can do it now but on a PC or two which will kill the chances of it ever becoming a real alarm. UL will prove tough but the demand is more then there. (I'm a licensed alarm installer too.) -
What to do when no-ip / dyndns start collecting subscription
CollinR replied to kelvin's topic in Computers/Networking
I have to agree, I would much prefer to have totaly control over it. Not to mention you would be giving subdomains off your domain which would help as refferal. -
Getting them bridged correctly, I have probably seen 10 different models in the last 2 months. If cable tried that crap I could just swap in a Linksys and spoof the MAC but PPOE doesn't work that way.

Not totally true, while I would say the concept is totally cost prohibitive $100k+ they have had reliable facial recognition systems in the UK for many years. I saw a system once that would scan the crowd at a soccer game for wanted persons, it would actually kick back their row and seat #s as well as the warrant info. It didn't rely on things that change unless you undergo surgery or have some kind of accident. The proportional relationship between eyes ears and mouth is what it relied apon. It could ID often when the person was wearing a mask. I was very surprised at how simular and yet different our heads really are. You should not trim your sideburns based on your ears. Like I said this isn't for 99.9% of the users out there, $100k is probably a way low estimate. It could have easily been a multi million dollar system. You would be better off printing pics of the unwanteds and having them on display up front.

Do you have privacy laws? In the US driving down the road you should have no "reasonable expectation of privacy" but you gotta make sure you aren't looking into someone elses private property. EDIT: I checked this solely because I have spent a week at the top of a lift pulling wire. The second day when I came in they were asking one of their employees if he had watched the "forklift video" yet.

You can embed XP or Linux on PCs, best of both worlds. I have actually just started selling prepackaged embedded customized XP and DVR software/drivers. Buy a PC, fdisk it and move it's HD to IDE2 stick the "module" (IDE to CF all in one dealy, read only) on IDE1, plug in the DVR card and you are off.

Can Geovision play back 4 cameras in sync at same time?
CollinR replied to personalt's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I have never used a PC system that wouldn't do it. Geovision and Avermedia both have means of playback on a 4 way split, hell I don't even think the cameras need to be sequencial. I bet there is software out there for this. I don't do IP cameras because they aren't yet cost effective. The ones that are, are junk compared to analog pro CCTV gear. -
Can Geovision play back 4 cameras in sync at same time?
CollinR replied to personalt's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Most PC based systems will do that BUT you will have to enable 24 hour recording. If motion detection is on some videos may not sync because there was no motion on that channel. PS. You don't wanna do that... Look into some software solutions, it would really surprise me if this isn't out there.
