  1. I have a used 9 channel DVR that has looping outputs and a multiplexed output, It's also networkable. That would allow you to record and modulate without having to split the signals off. If you want it PM me, it's a KTL 80GB ~ 30fps definately not a show stopper but if you just want to view a multiplex have some recording and basic remote access it will do it. If you plan on having media center PCs all over your home you caqn use the remote managment features of about any DVR. With a PC in each room you can start getting really crazy. Do you also use SageTV or BeyondTV? I asked because you bought some good modulators better then what CCTV needs anyway.
  2. Agreed, add in communications as well. It's only logical to also contain your firefall for both voice and data. There are options but none are really exceptional, basically the giant interface as nobody has all in one hardware. Check into mrhouse, lots left to desire but overall pretty cool. Keep in mind this guy is running this from his residence open to all on the web. Yours would be much faster. EDIT: I guess you could also firwall your incoming video as well. Also check out the Elk alarms, if somebody is going to do it well it will be them.
  3. They can be the same but not always, some use hardware to encode mpeg 1 or 2 and then use software to transcode it to mpeg 4. Few are doing 100% hardware mpeg4 encoding.

    Explain this one to me.

It's that or reflection, if the shed has metal siding (and it's a shade of red ) it might reflect more light then you might think.

    GV-1480 Great Deal

How many do you have like this? I may be closing a deal with a bunch of branch offices. Something like 12-18.

    Low light Camcorder

Nothing unique, it's the combination of filters installed (1 inside and 1 consumer added) allowed only IR to pass to the CCDs. IR willl shoot through most plastic fibers like nylon and spandex. You also need a huge IR light source so it was pretty limited to outside daytime use. Also the quality was piss poor not nearely the privacy concern it was made out to be. Basically it worked well only on those tan-through bathing suits.
  7. Do you have Nview enabled? If so I would watch how it's configured and definately turn off the multiple desktops option. I would also turn off the toolbar that goes up in that general area too.

Window XP Pro (OEM) and product keys

Not a new "system" just new hardware. Yup.
  9. This is why IMHO "standalone" DVRs are somewhat questionable and should be significantly cheaper then their PC based counterparts (usually easy to upgrade/modify)

    hard drives

Ditto, they are all I use simply because I have all of the Maxtor HD tools (which also work well BTW).

    Severe weather

Yeah I got to watch alot of it go by. This is also a selling point for me... Whats cooler then sitting in your storm shelter watching your outside cameras.
  12. Yup Media player did play it. Now that I have actually seen the video I still think it's wind.
  13. I quit tring... TMPGEnc will transcode most video to MPEG 1 or MPEG 2 your choice and then everyone can veiw it.

Designing a new system with an existing pc.

Geovision's GV250 will work in most systems, somewhere there is a line that requires an Intel northbridge chipset you won't be able to run any of the badboy cards. My past expeirences with USB video capture hasn't been good...
  15. 720x480 is anamorphic widescreen in 16:9 format. The pixel count doesn't add up because DVD players stretch it out horizontally. If you watch an anamorphic widescreen movie pixel perfect everything looks tall and skinny. The only thing I can think of is the encoder hardware (probably originally designed to capture TV) has the ability to capture it and so Geo passed it onto the application. Makes it handy to do a DVD comparison though I guess. EDIT: Reading material http://www.smr-home-theatre.org/anamorphic/Anamorphic.html

    Any advice greatly appreciated

Beams are a good idea assuming you don't have alot of dear even then if it only trips the DVR it's no biggy. What you need to do is find a spot where they all go, maybe make one with a dummy. A 700R4 or 9" you can plainly see but can only really get at from one direction. Train the camera on that. People are dumb get creative... Entry and exit, if you can narrow this you can ID them at the entry/exit and just document them with the wider shots you already have. Your monthly loss should be relative to your budget thats the only reason I asked. You don't have much of a prayer at catching browsers, that would take many more cameras. Same almost goes for foot traffic from the back too but at night I think you have a chance using some psychology. I have never seen a parts yard without a fence and dogs at night, chit works.

    Any advice greatly appreciated

You won't beat em if you don't join 'em He's got semi trailers. You need a privacy fence like nobodies business!!!! Block that back access to foot traffic. Motion lighting back there with possibly a siren or just tone pulse to make the guy think it's more then just $20 wally world motion lights. How much are you loosing in a month?

Remote webcam unusual error Geovision 7.0.5

Not in Geo that I have used but Windows firewall and many other firewalls can restrict based on IP or a variety of other parameters.

Best place to get these camera's.

You need a heated housing to combat condensation well, its just physics whatever is colder then the dew point in that place that day will get condensation.
