I just mean the really easy to implement script relies on the server for security, it has no provisions for uploading or emailing. Only people intrusted with FTP access could add images to it, you wouldn't do it for every forum member. EDIT: I see, when I said you above I meant Larry.

You can have the attachment mod for phpbb configured so it FTPs them to another site. I personally haven't done it but it's in the config files. For you Thomas and Rory I have a stupid easy script for it as well, all you gotta do is FTP the images into the correct folder. It navigates using the folder names and auto generates thumbnails. You do have to have the abilty to upload though. Works great for the staff on my site.

I need help guys, dont know which camera to get!!
CollinR replied to camera714's topic in Security Cameras
Call your debt card issuer, if it has a Visa logo on it you are almost certainly safe. I have gotten $700 back on deals that were shadier then this. Mine the guy had a copy of my card and my PIN, most banks say thats impossible without my knowledge. IT AIN'T! EDIT: This guy would have to be a fool to rip off a security professional. -
Is there a linux solution that compares with Geo's features?
CollinR replied to CollinR's topic in Geovision
Found some stuff but not too much, same for supported hardware. I think ZoneMinder is top dog right now. http://www.zoneminder.com/ http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/DVR-9231.shtml Might be able to use MythTV too but I think hardware would make it cost prohibitive. -
Homemade or Purchased Structured Wiring Panel?
CollinR replied to fas's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
It's the "gotcha by the short and curlys" thing... I hate that but basically thats it, the only thing special about them is all the parts fit into the panel and look organized. Once your hooked you get stuck with not using the panel for alot of what it was design for because cost effective stuff won't fit in it. Look at the CCTV offering, I bet that "Video IP Server" (that won't fit in the panel BTW) is as much $ as a crappy stand alone network DVR. -
I like it, it also snatched all my existing accounts worked like a charm. Looks simular but much softer and refined.

Homemade or Purchased Structured Wiring Panel?
CollinR replied to fas's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I mix and match but prefer 19" racks, with alot of those panels you get limited on components. In a rack you can do whatever you might want. http://www.dsienterprises.com/item.cfm?id=74 ----- EDIT: That ones only 24u not everything will fit inside that. http://www.dsienterprises.com/item.cfm?id=93 42u fill fit a bunch. That have all kinds of these things too. ----- Plus the geekier/engineering type customer gets a hard on when they see it installed. You can put almost anything in them and the accessories are readily available. Install the normal stuff flat in a drawer or shelf most theater gear fits no prob. Unfortunately it does jack up the price in areas: Rackmount PC cases (and PCs) tend to be more expensive then normal ATX cases, sux for no real reason. You can spend gobs and gobs on patch panel work, the config is ultra cool but the terminals and termination add up fast FAST! Some stuff is cheaper though. http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/ProductDetail.aspx?sku=A0234853&c=us&l=en&cs=555&category_id=6412&first=true&page=productlisting.aspx $279.99 OnQ I don't think has any gigabit stuff but 16 ports http://store.digital-orange.com/dh36473301.html x2 = $374.48 16 ports but they are not gigabit. I'm also concerned about putting switches in panels, if you have traffic it can generate some heat and they are aften passive cooling. This is a place where lots of change will come in the future, more embedded devices and devices that combine many of these functions. -
Anyone ever tried? http://www.bgmicro.com/search1.asp?page=5&cri=LED&stype=2 Maybe 3 of these. http://www.bgmicro.com/prodinfo.asp?sid=0601192129629637014252204&prodid=LED1099&page=6&cri=LED&stype=2 Outdoors would still be tough but you could mount those boards inside is loads of applications.

I know it's probably not right but I use a little piece of "craft board" from the hardware store and drywall screws. It's something like 1/2"x6"xwhatever, just cut into into squares and make it sandwich the ceiling tile. You could still rip it off if you really wanted to but there is only so much you can do.

FAT32 vs NTFS for Geovision Data drive
CollinR replied to Rene's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I'n not certain on the FAT32 vs. NTFS thing but I have only ever used NTFS. How many total drives are you planning to use? -
You can't get an accurate idea without the manufacturer's data, luckliy since you are dealing with qty 100 it will be easy to convert the %s. Really its' like asking about buying 100 cars and how many spares for warantee work. Without specifing Honda or Yugo you will get some whacky results. I have worked for companies close to that 10% mark and companies where you would need a factional camera. I assume this to be really wide with CCTV products especially. EDIT: Took 2 min to type.

[moved] - kinda dumb question... sub-$100 cameras?
CollinR replied to oderus1671's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I'm interested as well, aver hasn't been that bad to me in the past but I have never used their DVR card. -
I said no but thats because I think they have been inpaired for quite a while. I agree with what rory has already mentioned and add in TLC, HGTV, SpikeTV (MXC is GREAT!!! Love "log drop" and "sinkers and floaters"!!!, they also have powerblock for the gearheads). Thats about it, no sports, learning or laughing for me.

If you guys ever need help with modifing it feel free to query me. I don't have lots and lots of free time on my hands but I appreciate the site and don't mind putting some back in. (Not that I have found anything wrong with the site, it functions perfectly, a breeze to navigate and easy on the eyes.)

Thats awesome, what do you think the final cost was? Does it put off any visable light? Thats one of my concerns, I want them to be totally invisable. I alot of the prebuilt units don't clarify, often they claim invisable but in reality they aren't.
-
Don't install it on a customer's machine just yet.
-
Well how much light does the biggest ExtremeCCTV put out? Candlepower Lumens whatever specs they may release, don't think I can do anything with watts though since they are LED. EDIT: You guys should follow the links, I would NEVER consider building the LED array by hand.
-
Those boards had 72 LEDs assembled. Really though I am thinking that LEDs might not be the way to go. How about theatrical light filters and a basic outdoor flood? The filters are 20"x24" and about $10, I would think those filters are used to bigtime heat as their lamps often don't vent. http://www.bellacor.com/detail.cfm?Cat=38&ItemID=32447 and http://www.stagelights.com/color1.htm Should be wildly more powerful then the LEDs I've seen.

If you want to use it with a TV tuner you will need to modulate it to a specific channel. You can try any of the devices that allow you to connect DVD players to older TVs without composite inputs. Your Svideo is probably an output. You are looking for a composite video input, doesn't really matter what kind of terminal it has.

I can host them as well as give you FTP accees so you can keep them update/add/remove documents.

100% agree, when I bought my first 250 I thought for sure it said 30 fps.
-
Almost anything that will function reliably at all will suit his use. I'm stuck on Geo and I would do a 250-4 without thinking. My bigger concern would be coverage of the house. You gotta make it where its somewhat hard to avoid them. You don't need to identify the nanny you already know, all he needs to really see is actions. Don't get me wrong fps is a big deal with action, just this situation is special. If you have 4 cams in 4 rooms 1 kid and 1 nanny there should never be more then 2 cams going at the same time, thats 7.5fps x2. Not bad at all for the $. Alot of people don't do the math that way but if the DVR can load balance thats what you get.
-
Also check that you have given your windows client permissions (not just the dvr), did the NFS server software come with a windows client app?
-
That is no joke! Nothing special to show for it either.
-
Okay so do you have a linux PC, an embedded linux DVR and a XP machine? If so you need to move the drive to the linux PC, Windows machines can do NFS (Network File System) but I think they will only read local NTFS and FAT32 drives. I'm not totally sure about it though. Either way I would offload it to the linux box and configure samba as a PDC (is this XP pro or home?).
