  1. Thats probably why it doesn't work for a limited XP user account. Might be able to get around that and help it in the backup area once it's all documented.

    Installing DVR in a safe

Totally DITTO, if not NAS then just space on another networked machine.

    Installing DVR in a safe

ahh now we are getting somewhere. Does the safe have a floor or is the concrete exposed? If that is the slab it would be a killer heatsink and almost totally uneffected by a reasonable fire.

    Installing DVR in a safe

You haven't described it very well and no pics at all, we'll help but we need more to go on. I could build a safe that fits in the truck of your car or one a semi couldn't move. The design makes a pretty good difference too.

If I were to experiment I would do a via epia fanless and a GV250 with an add on heatsink.

    Installing DVR in a safe

Venting got you concerned about smoke damage inside? If you have any type of signficant fire you will have mega smoke damage inside the safe. You can probably make it work day to day but if the outside of the safe gets very hot at all it will start retaining heat and quickly smoke the electronics inside. The case with AC probably ain't gunna work either, it is probably good for 20* drop. It's own exhaust will bring the air temps way up to the point where it is rendered ineffective and unless it is super effcient it will create more heat then it dissipates. I would put 2 fans in the bottom of the safe, 1 in and 1 out. use ducting to route the out to the top of the safe. Keep the safe as low as possible and you should be pretty good. Once it hits flashover it almost doesn't matter what you do, it will fry. Water cooling is a valid option but isn't too feasable.
  7. I've been waiting to see someone get serious enough to mount a big plasma in a van and start opening up ATMs where they stand. It wouldn't be all that hard to do and would take too long either, prolly faster then hooking them to a wrecker.
  8. Hauppage capture cards would kick ass. That will give you real time hq inputs each with audio syncronized. 720x480 30 fps per channel totally hardware MPEG2 a+v no need to transcode to back up on DVD, standard players often work. Others can watch the framebuffer over LAN, ebay the dazzles... You can setup recording schedules or manually control as well. Home theater PC forums will be your best resources (snapstream, sagetv).

Basic PC DVR questions (windows XP / Geovision)

On windows, I can't get geo to run under a limited user account. If you use XP home you'll never notice since everyone is an admin by default but if you have pro you can lock users down pretty well possibly even with a domain.

Basic PC DVR questions (windows XP / Geovision)

This is more for where the system serves another purpose like POS or email access. So there would at times be a local user, right now I just have the geo user launch the screensaver immedately and it forces another login. If you are stitting there at just the right time you can stop it and have access to an admin account until the screensaver does kick in. I'm not too familiar with the keylock setting, how does it work? How hard is it to compromise?

The windows user account so the operator can't make system changes.

    Access and Alarm

This looks interesting, not too bad on the budget. http://homesecuritystore.com/detail_pages/tiab.htm I think I would prefer the control to unlock the door but what do I know.

    Access and Alarm

Have you checked into using the V50s relay outputs to trigger the door locks and remotes to trip the unlock zones? I haven't done anything with a V50 but I feel your pain, I feel this should be a no brainer but its not. EDIT: I am pretty sure that WON'T WORK.

    Viewing DVR on PDA?

The right PDA with a large enough screen can RDP in, few PDAs have wifi and can display 800x600 though. You would also need to secure the wifi through VPN or something. EDIT: You can also use FTPed images and plain old html but no video and you may have refresh issues if you have multiple PDAs of different makes.

    NFS network data transfer

You might also try sharing that drive and then mapping it through it's network address rather then locally. I'm not sure Windows will navigate NFS if it thinks it is local. (Samba won't work for you, I didn't realize you were using an XP machine.)

    Cell Phone Client

All DVRs that can FTP images can be used with cel phones, you can build your own little html background and links.

    Saturdays install

You don't CC? Some of the people I install for have a serious need for a security system.
