You need "Power Toys" from Microsoft. In there is a facility for auto logon. About the anti virus, thats ok but as an example with Symantec I let it auto update the deffinition files because it never needs to reboot the pc, but any other update is left at "just notify", more often than not these require a reboot, so I install those updates and reboot when convenient to me. I let it do a weekly scan, never found the scan upseting GV. Leave Windows own firewall switched on and also install Microsofts free Anti Spyware program with auto updating swithched on. Again just think about the times for the scans and auto updating. Probably don't need the Anti Virus or Anti Spyware installed but I can't get happy leaving a pc connected to the net without! Another thing I do is to only leave the System restore switched on for C drive only, drives that GV records to are not monitored. I would like some body else to say if this is the right or wrong way to set up a dedicated GV PC, or any thing else I should be doing? Any help much appreciated.

They should have been in the box! In a little plastic bag. Never had one missing. Got quite a few of them now You just need to get a "Anti Tamper Torx set", comes in handy for all those things you should not be taking appart -
Yup thanks for that. Have turned off the burst setting, reduced auto gain to it's medium setting and switched off the X2 gain in BW mode and put the switch over to BW to the low threshold. Major improvement in motion recording (or not recording with no motion-if that makes sense) Very pleased now. Just wish one could access these settings through a pc (like Bocsh) instead of all the dedicated Panny equip you need. On a side note, was very impressed with this Geovision 1480 card but then the guys pc was a mighty P4 3.6 just dedicated to his security system. Once again thanks for all the replys.

Thanks for the quick replys & suggestions. The motion setting is on 7! with no sky in pic. There are no lights except for 2 1000W halogens activated by 40 mtr pir's, these are not being activated and causing the problem motion recording. Have reviewd a few hours of these recordings, no motion to be seen! As the camera switches over to bw then of course you get a minute or so of recording then slowly as the light level drops the motion detect on the card keeps starting to record and keeps on starting every 7 minutes or so until it is dark, very dark. (can still see area under view on pc monitor, just). Behavior is then normal until dawn when the whole thing repeats itself until the camera switches back to colour (english spelling ). Picture quality remains superb throughout with a tiny tiny amount of noise right at the darkest point (not recording at this time anyway). The card is a GV 1480 running 7.04 software with 2 gigs of mem and 4 HD's giving 1.3Tb of storage! all cams (all Panasonic) set to 30 fps at max resolution (pal) all running on a Asus mb with a 3.6 P4 on XP Pro. The pc and psu for the cams are all plugged into great big APC ups. I know the last bit was a bit irrelevant but I was impressed with the whole set up. I think I will go and buy one of these Pannys and have a long play with it.

Can somebody please explain the 'Burst (BW) Setting' on these cameras for me. Could this if set incorectly be a cause of excessive recording on a GV 1480 card set to motion record during the dusk and dawn times of the day? The camera's have at this stage switched over to BW, there are no probs during the day or night just during those 2 hours of twilight. Other than that, they give superb pics, the domes have even got the heater accessory fitted (don't see that very often). They are all installed in very awkward high positions, don't fancy revisiting these more than once. The original installer is no more and I was looking through all the documentation that was left, the list of settings on these things is quite long, to say the least! but the burst setting stood out. Any help much appreciated.

Hi Guys, Don't want to get into trouble but can't find a model number or make for this DVR I found the other day. Hope this link does not break any rules. Does anybody know anything about it, spec just seems to good for the price, or am I missing something. Simultaneous real-time audio and video recording; 25fps (PAL) or 30fps per channel (NTSC) at 720x480 on all 16 channels with 1TB storage included!? It would still come in at a good price after shipping it to the UK and paying import duty and tax (vat). Was looking at the Panny HD316A but don't think it's spec for the money is good enough these days. (But that is the sort of price I'm willing to pay for a decent 16ch dvr) Any views or thoughts much appreciated. www.dvrinternational.com/embedded.htm
