Hi all, I had an incident at my office and I need to install 3 additional cameras and I'm looking for a recommendation: I'm looking for ceiling mounted indoor fisheye cameras with day/night vision POE with great quality as I need to see people's faces. They will watching about 1,000 sqft/ea in an office with a ceiling height of about 9'. I'm looking for recommendations if anyone has any I already have blueiris running for all my other cameras Thank you

Is it possible to have my GV-1480 broadcast each camera stream into third party software? Essentially I want to use my existing setup as a analog to IP encoder for BlueIris to record.

Outdoor Wifi License Plate Camera
sheriffa posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I searched the forum but found a post from 2012 so I am creating a new one. I am looking for an outdoor wifi camera that has enough resolution to capture a license plate from 30 ft in the day or night. A bullet camera would be ideal. I already have a system running with 8 BNC cameras and 12 IP cameras. The IP Cameras are using Blueiris software so I would ideally like to ensure the camera would work. I've used ACTi in the past (bad decision) but switched to Vivotek which I love. Any ideas? I've looked at the Foscam FI9805W but feel I need a better image. Thank you. -

What Type of Fiber Optic cables to Install?
sheriffa posted a topic in Installation Help and Accessories
I need to run a 500 foot connection from an office to a remote enclosed powered enclosure. I have the underground conduit with a pull cord in place between the two. I want to setup a 6 camera IP system expandable to 32 for now so I was going to run fiber across that distance. There will be a switch on either end? Single or multimode? What kind of fiber should I be using? What is armored fiber? I hear there are different types of connectors for the fiber, what are they? Is there a reference guide somewhere? Any recommendations on the switches? One of them has to be environmentally hardened, support POE, and have at least 13 Ethernet ports a 1000Mbps. Thank you in advance guys -
First of all this board rocks. I used you guys to self install a analog PC based DVR running Geovision and everything worked out perfectly. I had zero experience with cameras before this. Now we are building another set of storage units at my facility and I need to install more cameras. This time I'm going with IP Cameras. I decided the best thing for me to do is to run a single fiber optic line from a central point in my facility. I already have all the underground conduits and infrastructure is perfect accept I do not know which fiber optic cable to buy and I don't know how to terminate the ends. The run for the fiber is between 500 and 600 feet and at most I will be putting 40 cameras in the future. I'm sure the fiber can handle that very very easily. I will be putting a environmentally hardened switch in my remote building and running POE cameras off of that. (max distance from switch to cameras is 210 feet). That switch should be able to accept fiber. The fiber will be run from that switch into my office where I have a PC based DVR. Once again all the conduits are there and there is a rope already in that line for me to pull the fiber through. This end will go into my PC and I'm going to buy a fiber optic Network interface card for this PC. I've never handled fiber before. So what type of cable reel should i buy? What type of cable? Single or multimode? (I think single) Any help would be appreciated

I'm new to fiber, never used it. I'm installing a IP Camera system in my storage facility. The fiber has to be about 450 - 500 foot distance. The system will at most have 64 cameras (one day) but for now 6. I know the best way to send the data back to the server is via fiber but I've never used it. Some installers are recommending single mode while others are recommending multi mode. I know multi is less expensive and more useful in short distance while single mode is more expensive but can handle longer runs (excess of 2km which i don't need). Which should I be installing. Also some installers are recommend LC connectors on each end while others are recommending SC connectors. I'm lost and don't want to end up with a system I can't use. Any input would be great, thank you

After looking at the following document I see that I can easily achieve 1Gb/s using 62.5/125 as long as i don't pass 220Meters (721 feet). This distance i am covering is 450 Feet so i will be going with the 62.5/125 because most equipment supports this type of cable. I encourage any arguments that oppose my decision as I am very new to this. http://www.imcnetworks.com/Adocs/Support/to-fibercaldist.pdf

How can I tell if a switch will support the 50 micron cable? Most installers are telling me I don't need it. What bandwidth will the 62.5 micron cable support over 450 feet? I used an IP calculator to figure out the worst case scenario if i setup 50 cameras at 15fps using 1200x1600 and it says I need 322 MB/s (http://www.video-insight.com/Support/Tools/IP-Bandwidth-Calculator.aspx)

I'm new to this guys so I had a few questions about IP cameras. Can I simply put a few cameras on a network with a PC and then use some software to record/view/setup the picture? Someone quoted me that I need a capture card which I'm not sure I need. Also what software do you guys recommend? This is a cost sensitive project and I would like a good set of features. Thank you in advance

So I think I know what I'm going to get. I need a 50 micron fiber cable that is multimode and has at least 4 strands. I still haven't decided on the connectors yet but I see most people are using LC. I need to pull this cable throw 450 feet of underground conduits. The pull cord was put in during installation so I believe it will be easier to do. I'm going to use a $&!t load of cable grease and do my best to pull this thing through while someone feeds it in. Any ideas where I can get this cable from? Links would be appreciated. I'm also assuming about a $1 a foot is a good price and more than $1.70 is over priced

Thanks Jeromephone I would have been in a world of trouble if i'd gone with the 62.5. This leads me to my next questions...why do i need even 6 strands instead? i thought a single strand of fiber would do the job. Once again I've never used fiber before so any information would help. So for now i'm going with single strand multimode at 50 microns unless you can convince me I need otherwise. Thanks again guys, this is a huge help and it is appreciated

I forgot to ask a question. How should the multimode be terminated on each end? Some say SC while others say LC, what do you recommend? Also I need to buy a network switch. It must be able to except fiber(above), withstand extreme temperatures (It will be in a storage unit in new england), and have at least 8 ports for 100/1000 Ethernet (cat6) connections. I would love if it had another minimum 6 ports at 10/100 with POE but I think i may need another switch for only the POE. Any recommendations on the product?

Thanks Ilke, with multimode i can get 10 gbit/s at distances of less than 300m. I will only be going 150 meters so I'll be fine for many years to come. Thanks for all your help in figuring this stuff out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-mode_optical_fiber

You second time forget about fiber cable bandwidth Read this: http://www.arcelect.com/Calculating_fiber_loss_and_distance.pdf http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gigabit_Ethernet So, if you have 2 km distance, 1Gbps link will not work with multimode cable, or you will need specific expensive gigabit multimode converters.... That means that since my distance is less than 500 feet Multimode will work, right?
-
As far as I know 64 cameras at 15fps, 800x600 equates to 360mbps. A 1GB/s Ethernet would work but the distance is over 100 meters so i would have to repeat it and I rather not. So the length is 450-500 feet and the bandwidth needed is 360mbps. I'm sure we have to take into account other factors like network hand shaking and other administrative traffic but I believe any type of fiber will handle my needs easily. I just need to make sure I know why some installers are recommending single mode rather than multi mode

IP Camera Software
sheriffa replied to sheriffa's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I think he has no idea what he is talking about. He is a family friend and we decided to let him give us a quote on this project. I already have a 16 existing analog cameras going into a geovision card inside a dell PC(quad core, raid 1, 2TB) and its running well. I simply want to add 6 IP cameras to the same PC. I'm not sure if I need to buy new software or if the preexisting Geovision software will be able to handle these additional cameras. I was hoping I could run another piece of software for these new cameras. Something inexpensive and feature rich. Any ideas on new software, if i need it. -

http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/product/SupportIPCAM.htm http://www.geovision.com.tw/english/3_1_IPCam.asp I was under the impression that I have to buy IP Camera licenses fornon geovision cameras Those cameras do not suite my needs as described above. I do not need pan/tilt/zoom, they will be very expensive for my needs -
IP Camera Software
sheriffa replied to sheriffa's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
He is telling me that I need the card for the compression. I do not believe this is true. As far as I know I could have these ip cameras going to a laptop as long as it had the right software. Unfortunately the geovision software only supports geovision cameras. Geovision cameras are not designed for my needs (outdoor, vandal proof, color, day/night). Any recommendations on another piece of software? I'm planning on running it on the same pc i have the geovision card in -

Thank you rory, Any recommendations on the software -
I understand the warranty provided and the business model. Everyone has to make money, or else they would not exist and I respect that. Its capitalism at its finest. As I mentioned above we had someone come and install the initial part of the system, and he screwed us. I haven't heard from him in 6 months and I've left over 5 messages. I've honestly given up on him. He even replaced 4 of 8 outdoor cameras just over a year ago with a new model of camera that offers a 2 year warranty. All of those 4 have gone bad since but there is a warranty. Even with that the installer is not calling me back. I've tried to bypass the installer and go through the manufacturer but they refuse to deal with me. So now i have 4 useless cameras that cost me over $2,000 plus installation. The installer is not returning my calls and the manufacturer refuses to even email me the manual. I feel so helpless and I spent a lot of money on this system that doesn't work. I feel really bad about this. I am an extremely technical person, I have a degree in computer science with a focus on networking. I'm a project manager at a tech company. I don't want to depend on anyone else as I'm still bitter about getting ripped off for thousands when I am more than capable of handling the system, just not running underground cables. I've already taken the existing Speco DVR that broke twice and had to pay over $500 each time to fix in less than 3 years and replaced it with a PC based DVR with RAID and a 16 channel Geovision card and so far it is running perfectly with a lot more features. So this is my dilemma. Do i pay a lot of money for someone to install the system and know I can purchase the hardware for half (The first quote I got included a lot of equipment I don't need with a surcharge of over 100%) and take the risk that my installer may disappear? Or do I do as much as I can on my own, save thousands and have the ability trouble shoot it myself.
-
Thank you again johnnyviper I decided I'm not going to terminate it myself. I'll for sure mess it up. I'm going to purchase all the equipment myself. All the quotes are increasing the equipment cost anywhere from 30% to 200% of the same exact hardware I have found on the internet (ridiculous I know). The only thing the quotes don't specify are the fiber optic cable specs. So I'm wondering where online I can buy these from and what model numbers should I be looking for. A part number with a link would be appreciated. I need at least 500+ feet plus of this stuff
-
Thank you johnnyviper, I'm a technical person so if I can terminate it I rather but I'm not sure how. I thought the best solution would be to buy a reel of the needed length. What do you recommend?
