Hi Armyofone, Now that we know it is an avi file, they would need to buy a dvd player that will have the correct divx codec installed. I know you are learning alot about video and the many challenges this gear brings. If you are so inclined, you can download AVICODEC, which is a freeware utility which will help determine what type of avi file your recorder produces. Make sure to burn to media which is compatible with the player....-R disks are the most widely recognized. Once you know which codec, you can look for a DVD player with that codec. Course with a computer, the codecs are readily available along with dvr software to easily review video. You should make this part of your "tools" if you're doing much video in the future. ....while I think of it...if the dvr has an analog video out....why not connect it to a local monitor so they can at least review video near the recorder? just a thought!

Yes, there are now DVD players that will play multi formats including MPEG4. Have a look at the major manufacturers on-line, although some will indicate not all disks are playable. Does this recorder save to its native format? or does it save in .avi format?

Welcome to the forum. Nice to see another fellow Canadian!

I've used ADI for more than 15 years and have been satisfied. Now that they have merged with Burtek, I have more selection available to me. If you can keep to one sales rep you're bound to get good prices.....trouble is, they don't pay the rep's enough so they don't stick around. Just my two cents.

If you HAD to buy one of these two monitors which would you?
rapid replied to mick53's topic in General Digital Discussion
I'd choose the Sony as it is cube shaped allowing equipment to be placed on top...stacks well. The Panasonic is good, however is slanted. -
This is from Wren Associates and might suit your needs. This replaces a 2x2 tile and is 360 degree adjustable.

Looking for forms such: Quotes,Estimates,Contracts.for CCTV
rapid replied to audiorum's topic in General Digital Discussion
Nice papers? When I review contracts, I'm not looking at nice, but I will discard contracts that aren't spelled correctly! -
Cold enough for ya? Enough is enough....bring on spring!

Yes, the WV-CS854B can understand other manufacture protocols like American Dynamics Manchester code and PELCO P protocol however not sure if PELCO D would work. PELCO D may work but may inadvertently affect the operation of some of the camera features. Configuring of the dipswitches is required. I've interfaced AD controllers with these domes and Panasonic provided me with the correct dipswitch settings. You have to ask them as they would prefer you use their equipment! The CU-161 controller is the preferred controller. Interestingly enough this controller can be used for all Panasonic cameras to remotely program the internal settings of their cameras!

fc......stands for footcandle in imperial units.....Typically this is approximated as 1 footcandle being equal to 10 lux as you can see from your specs. F1.2.......This is the Focal stop of the lens or the size of the aperature (opening) which lets in light to the CCD sensor.....the lower the number....the larger the opening and the quicker the lens is in responding to light changes. CCD sensors are more sensitive to black and white which provide a superior image over color as you can see from your specs.

Although this has been mentioned before, it's difficult to suggest solutions to members if the products are not available in a particular country or district. Is there a way to make the country as a mandatory field for new members?

Panasonic WV-CW864 PTZ and WV-Cu350
rapid replied to clardy's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
The CU-360 is intended to be used with Panasonic's DVR's. If you want a standalone controller, you'll need the CU-161 (either RS-485 or down the coax control) -
Is it in fact aluminum or tinned copper? During a recent survey, I stripped back some cable and what appeared to me was aluminum......before asking the electrician to remove it, I found out the product was to spec....in actuality it was tinned copper. Anyone else seen this?

Newbie needs help with Protocol for System Controller
rapid replied to tranductruong's topic in General Digital Discussion
The WV-CU161 controller is intended for "up the coax" or RS-485 communication for a single camera. Full duplex (4 wire) or Half duplex (2 wire) is available along with various baud rates to control their CS-854 or 954 cameras. If you are looking to control multiple Panasonic cameras, then you'll have to go for the WV-CU360 controller. Panasonic uses a proprietary protocol, therefore it will be challenging or impossible to integrate other manufacturers equipment........however, They don't tell you this, but their CS-854 cameras can (through dip switches) be set to work with Pelco and AD (Manchester) protocol making it easier to integrate with controllers other than the Panasonic WV-CU161. -
DVR suggestions - battery operated 2-4 channels
rapid replied to Smith's topic in Digital Video Recorders
Just purchased this 4 channel unit for a mobile application. 120G removable hard drive. This is an NTSC version but imagine they have a PAL version. http://www.everfocus.com/product.asp?id=45 -
This works well....they have a Window & Door version of this polyurethane insulating foam sealant which is more flexible and doesn't expand as much. As well as sealing conduit (just a bit), it's great for keeping insects out! Another alternative would be to use some cut-up polyethylene packaging foam stuffed into the conduit.

Hello from Ottawa, Canada

Welcome to the forum stanzap! -
As well, the RG-11 probably has an aluminum foil shield which is fine for CATV, but drastically reduces range for baseband composite CCTV. As Scorpion suggested, 24vac would be recommended to drive the cameras (assuming they are not too power hungry) Outdoor direct burial multi-pair Cat3 cable (baluns will work with Cat 2 and up) zap strapped to the strand along with the 24vac (direct burial) would work. You'll need NEMA enclosures to break out the 24ac and punch down blocks for the video baluns. Yes, you'll need to find out who owns the pole and whether you can even attach anything.

Hello, everybody, I'd like to talk with you friendly
rapid replied to jefinny's topic in Introductions
Welcome jefinny....Nice to meet you. -
Panasonic uses up the coax control for their integrated dome cameras. I use Panasonic exclusively so check out the WV-CW964 for outdoor applications, and the CU161 dome controller for single camera operation.

Anderskh....are you using the DVMS, LT or ULTRA version of the Intellex? AD's latest Intellex software is v4.1 which will work on W2K. You'll need to upgrade to v4.0 first though (contact AD rep for assistance) ,then you can upgrade to v4.1. My latest install had v3.2 and works great.

Shouldn't be a problem....I've run extensions up to 25 feet without a problem.
