Geovision 1480 gives video with moving horizontal lines
Campbell replied to Jasbas's topic in Geovision
6 mths later! Sounds like a ground loop issue. A ground loop occurs when there is more than one ground connection path between two pieces of equipment. The duplicate ground paths form the equivalent of a loop antenna which very efficiently picks up interference currents. Lead resistance transforms these currents into voltage fluctuations. As a consequence of ground-loop induced voltages, the ground reference in the system is no longer a stable potential, so signals ride on the noise. The noise becomes part of the program signal. -
I got a free trip to UFC 127 courtesy of ACTi yesterday. All food and drink incl. Just sayin'

Just came across this article via Slashdot http://www.net-security.org/secworld.php?id=10459 Boggles me that people don't secure their camera feeds. Ok fair enough some don't need to be secured and/or are deliberately left open, but the 3 red light cameras in Texas mentioned... O_O

As spectacularly unhelpful as it is. The only supplier we use is Altech for the Vivotek gear in Sydney.

I can't think of the movie right now... it was some sort of vamp flick. It had a dog in it that was a vampire I think. Little white thing. Your dog is this dog. Except black. And given that you have it on your lap, you are clearly the devil himself!

I know its a month later ... but there's no reason why you can't do the same thing with MP's. Software these days gives you the option of all forms of alerts if there's movement in a certain area.

Maglites, torch, Led lights and that kind of things.
Campbell replied to cocacola's topic in Test Bench
When I used to do the installs, I either used a head torch or more often than not, my Makita LXT fluoro. I've used the fluoro for years and it's always done the job. PS Makita LXT series of tools. Best investment EVER. -
Dude your black dog in the 4th picture looks psycho. I love dogs but I'm steering clear of that one!

One day... all DVR and camera manufacturers will sit down together and say Wouldn't it be nice if things... just... worked?! And then they'll all use the same codec! I don't think I'll be alive to see it

Hi... *BOGGLE* A standard residential set up would take up... what maybe 5 or 6 cams tops. You have over 30! Forgive me for asking but how big is your house?!
-
Mike why do we sell megapix cams when other can do with 2-$ 99 bullets I feel ... Same reason you go into a retail premise these days and see the roof lined with crappy domes and you propose that your MP's are a better solution and you only need about half the current number and some self professed expert argues that you wont have the same coverage.

NUUO 3.4 does not support network drive recording anymore
Campbell posted a topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Made a rather annoying discovery on Friday. NUUO 3.4 no longer supports recording to network drives. So now currently looking for a new software solution which doesn't render the customers 8TB NAS useless. -
Nobody uses wireless here except for locally through routers, its not even a thought yet, its cable or nothing basically. Ofcourse cell phone users use some kind of wireless but I wouldnt know about that. It's far more prevalent here due to the tyranny of distance. Especially in the outback.

Say what??? rainx and caulking? Nah just goggles and a snorkel

FWIW in the UK http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-11911478 1GB/s from BT and Virgin are already offering 200mb/s somewhere. Fastest we get... http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/bc/isp-9-16/internode-nbn-stage-1.htm Its just 1 ISP running 100mb/s services. Prices between all carriers is essentially the same.

I'm not so sure. Clearly you could never do backbones over wireless but if for the avg consumer, we're already well into that with smartphones, tablets and laptops. Yeah for the average user, but with video it can still be a lag, dependent on the connection. Also, I cant count how many times people call me about they cant connect or they connected to someone elses network and its slow, or something is blocking the signal, etc etc . Wireless can be a real pain sometimes, while wired just works. Oh I agree with you, but wireless tech is advancing faster and faster. We already stream high compression stuff anyways from places like youtube etc. We're already approaching the point where transmission speeds of wireless exceed that of cameras. It's only a matter of time. That said, I much prefer to deal in hard wire, less things go wrong

Tutorial: Watch cctv remotely. Even with no networking
Campbell replied to johnty's topic in Computers/Networking
Don't most DVRs and NVR's these days come with their own FREE remote viewing software? And surely, if you're going to go to this length, wouldn't remote desktop be a much more viable function which means you don't have to fiddle with dongle things. -
POS text overlay on video. Need help & Recomendation
Campbell replied to johnty's topic in General Digital Discussion
Post stands after further reading. -------------------------------------- Skimmed through the past 3 pages. Theres a lot of text. NUUO offer the SCB-C31. Their software can run the feed of the transaction over the camera feed without the need for dual monitors. Why make things harder than they already are. In addtion to that, you can search the transactions via select events such as cash draw opens, employee id number and a whole host of other optional variables which is determined by the till feed. Is this what you were after mate? You said you'd be willing to change your DVR. NUUO do the pos overlay system VERY well. I'm heading out to one of the premises running this system so I'll take some screens for you to show you how it works. The basic system runs as follow. You run a null modem RS232 cable from the serial port to the SCB-C31 NUUO box. From there you can run ethernet back to the DVR/NVR NUUO Main Console will integrate everything for you. You'll need to tinker with the feed a little bit first to get it displaying in a recognisable format. Once you have that you can set identifiers and alarms dependent on what is happening with the transaction. -
How much to charge for a CCTV service call
Campbell replied to ispy10550's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
I'm slightly more expensive than Soundy here, I'd charge around $7000-$8000. This includes accommodation and flights from Sydney. -
NUUO 3.4 does not support network drive recording anymore
Campbell replied to Campbell's topic in DVR Cards and Software - PC Based Systems
Previous version had lag between transaction display on playback and the actual event. Given that it was a busy retail environment, 3.3 was not really suitable. iSCSI might work. It's a Synology so I'll need to investigate. It's not something we've had to do in the past. -
IP camera connection and what to do
Campbell replied to hd086's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Cat 6 is only tested to 100m and the data transmission gets pretty sketchy after that. I hope you've got a fibre link in there, otherwise it's a wireless solution. -
I'd use IP cameras with some sort of centralised management software. But that's me. Geovision's CMS is an example. I used this setup on a major butcher chain in Sydney and linked everything back to their head office. Each site had between 5-10 cameras. Others will tell you that individual DVR's with remote viewing capabilities and you can log in to each one remotely. Or alternatively you can set up individual NVR's and do the same thing. Depends on your budget really.
