Replacing first DVR after a week with better stuff
Campbell replied to JoeLansing's topic in General Digital Discussion
IBL! It depends on your definition of nice video. As someone said before, analog has a limited resolution because of the signal. PAL format will actually give you a few more TVL but not that much and certainly not enough to make a difference. As for the rest of it, a Blu-ray player emits a digital signal through your HDMi cable, your cell phone will take a digital picture and of course the USB camera is digital as well. -
Western Digital AV HDDs, serious problems
Campbell replied to vadimo's topic in General Digital Discussion
I used to use Greens extensively. I never had any issues with them recording wise but have had a couple of them fail on me now. Black all the way. -
I think you're being a touch oversensitive to be honest mate. I read through the first 2 posts then saw your reply of "knee jerk sensitive" and I read through the first 2 posts again and got really confused as to how you could get upset over the responses. I regularly tell my customers they've got crap. I'll tell you you've got crap. I'm not being superior to you or anything. I'm telling you that your equipment, no matter how loved it is, ... is crap. Ok fine you can't afford a 16MP camera. That's not really the point though. The point is, is that compared to stuff that's readily available on the market... what you have is crap. No one is being offensive. You ask, we tell. Sorry mate you have junk on your hands is hardly "not nice" at least in my eyes anyways. As for the rest, Soundy has pretty much covered everything.

Has anybody used the new Vivotek FD8162?
Campbell replied to alpine0000's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
eWDR functionality is not as good as true WDR on analogs yet but its better than zilch. With the eWDR Vivoteks I've used, I'd rate them about 60-70% as effective as a true WDR on an analog. Oddly enough, Exacq's camera list lags behind. They don't support Vivoteks new FE8171V fisheye camera either. I suppose you could try pretending it was an 8161 though and see what happens. -
More ridiculously to setup then Genetec? I've never set up a Genetec, but 10/10 customers who have previously used Geuterbrueck always ask "Is it easier to use than that?"
-
I find them to be ridiculously over complicated to use for the end users and usually ridiculously over specced for what's needed at the site.

Looking for info on IP camera system, pretty large.
Campbell replied to Razer_SE's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
In terms of bang for buck. The 2MP MD7560 is great value. I know I can get it for $300AU so presumably you could acquire similar pricing in your location. And I can't read... software wise, it depends on how much in the way of analytics you're after. Certainly Exacq and Avigilon are good options. -
Photo enhancemant of taxi to find lost luggage?

Sadly, the real world doesn't work like CSI and it's probably going to be impossible to read. -
Power supply fried 13 cameras???
Campbell replied to gb5102's topic in Installation Help and Accessories
You didn't accidentally flip to 24VAC did you? -
What do you mean by "can't view" ... do you mean that the LED display is just a big bright light and you can't distinguish the image or that you can't see anything. You will need to be more specific in regards to your issue.

Is the infrastructure there? Or will you have to cable the whole lot? A 120 camera IP job is rather large. You'll probably be looking at around 4 NVRs.

Vivotek FD8134V - Length of video clips

The cameras should come with their own free software. -
Sanyo HD3300P low light capabilities
Campbell replied to Michelangelo's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
The only problem I have with the Sanyo's is the stupid place they've put the RJ45 jack on the armour domes. For those that don't know, the jack sits flush with the base of the dome meaning that you can't actually run the cable in from the side. PS What's your source on the ceasing of production of the cameras. I've not found any reference to it despite keeping my eye out given the recent acquisition by Panasonic 12 mths ago. -
Sanyo HD3300P low light capabilities
Campbell replied to Michelangelo's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
Given its the same as the 2300 but in an armor dome, and having just installed one. I'd say it's very good. Don't ask for a ss, the job site is a 4hr drive away -
Read original post, skimmed down, saw this and only saw "daughter" and thought... Wow you really got that one wrong! Congrats!

IP7361 Can't record!
Campbell replied to cowhide11's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
All Vivotek cameras come with their own freebie software which for you would work quite well. -
Geo has their own version of the pos overlay. I'd use MP cameras but that's because I like them.

What about Megapixel Cameras?
Campbell replied to Numb-nuts's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
In relation to which camera to choose (ie 1.3MP or 10MP) its simply a price point. Once a customer sees the difference between the resolutions, it's a question of price (at least for mien anyway). And that takes care of most of the above points for me. More to the point about MP cameras is your netowrking ability. MP cameras take up significant amounts of bandwidth. Unless you've only got like 2 or 3, don't stick them on the same network as your computers or you won't hear the end of it. -
Not really. I prefer Cat5 because it's more ubiquitous than coax.

Its galling to read all these social commentaries romanticising the violence and blaming society and governments on ignoring the plight of a generation and not understanding. It's not their fault, it's the governments for neglecting them. What a load of horse baloney*. I can guarantee that these kids don't give a toss about social values, the government or anything else. They're in it for the free stuff. The majority of stores that have been looted. Fashion, electronics and sports goods. Who'da thunk it?! The welfare state has meant that it's easier not to give the proverbial* and when opportunity comes along to get more free stuff without contributing to society, they'll take it. Should have sent the army in on the first night to curb stomp the little rats. *substituted family friendly word

The network length is shortish, but nothing that can't be overcome I wouldn't call RJ45 harder to crimp than coax. Once you're practised, both are remarkably easy. PoE is not that expensive these days. Sure its more than a 12VDC power supply but if you're using large amounts, then a PoE switch will do and that serves 2 purposes. ... Why am I bothering? This is CAT5 vs COAX not IP vs analog. Ultimately, there are uses for both types but if I had my druthers, I'd rather be the guy who needed to carry a 1000ft box of Cat 5 than a 1000ft roll of RG59u

Opinion on 16channel system, seasoned members help please

Can they cope with 3TB drives yet? I'd use a NAS. -
Fixed that for you!

What do you suggest.
Campbell replied to oldtimer's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
My stuff usually ends up in a server room or admin area. It's placement is specified by the customer with recommendations by us. Locking it up is up to them. -
Most stuff is capable of both IP4 and IP6 so it won't affect us at all.
