I was trying to do it quickly Sub 80 for 10057 so you have as single port range and then do it how ever many times you have cameras You'll still need to assign a port to each camera to access them individually. EDIT A better way to explain this would be like the postal distribution in a large company. Your router is the mail guy. 128.45.32.77 is your public IP and therefore your address of the building but your port number is the person in the company who you're addressing. (kinda) Think of your cameras as being workers within the company. So the port is the name of the internal device which you want to access, otherwise your router (mail guy) doesn't know who to give it to. Does this make sense?

If you want to access your cameras from outside your internal network, then you will have to assign a port to each camera So if you have 4 cameras with internal IP's and all on port 80 like below Camera 1 - 10.0.0.1:80 Camera 2 - 10.0.0.2:80 Camera 3 - 10.0.0.3:80 Camera 4 - 10.0.0.4:80 Then your port forwarding needs to be configured as follows 121.91.38.75:10057 -> 10.0.0.1:80 121.91.38.75:10058 -> 10.0.0.2:80 etc I currently have a Netgear WPN824 here, here's a screen shot of what it should look like EDIT - Stupid sql db's breaking!

If you have the ability to build your own RS232 cable, I suggest this first Build the cable as follows. 1 ----- 2 - 3 | 3 - 2 | 4 ----- 5 - 5 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 - In other words, wire 2 to 3 and 3 to 2 and 5 to 5. then at each end, connect 1 & 4 in a loop. When the lines are handshake looped (1&4), the RTS output from the PC immediately activates the CTS input - so the PC effectively controls its own handshaking. See if that works and get back to me

Red cable is fire designated here so you don't use that. I've used yellow for all mine... but now people are starting to use yellow as well so I might change to another colour... Blue is the generic colour for all data and when cabling for cameras, I prefer to know which cables are mine easily, hence the reason for using a different colour.

You try to calculate storage requirements? I just tell them it's like asking how long is a piece of string. You won't know until you get it. HDD's are pretty cheap these days so it's not that much of an issue adding additional capacity.

Vivotek just released their newest piece of hardware, FD8362E - rated from -40C~55C. I've not used one but I'd wager its the same hardware that's in their other 2MP Supreme offerings but with a few modifications. Worth a look.

2 options. 1) Paperclip in the back of the camera 2) Take camera down and run on an isolated network with just a computer, switch and the camera. Please note that option 1 requires much less fiddling and it really only takes about 5 minutes to reconfigure. Option 2 will help you diagnose the problem for future reference.

is it on the local network? If not, you'll still need to factory reset it, so why not pull it down and plug it into a local network and set it up before you put it back up.

Because you have a bank of IPs rather than 1, it means you can no longer just type in an IP to connect to your router. (well I suppose you could, you just try all 5 and figure out which one gets through) You can try using dyndns or similar service which creates an a worded address for a continuously changing IP. Its like mycomputer.dyndns.org. This should be an option in your router. Additionally, you'll need to reconfigure your router again to forward the various ports again and make sure that the cameras still have their fixed IPs (there's no reason why they shouldn't but check it anyways). And make sure the router is set up the same as the Comcast one.

That post made me chuckle. It really falls on a case by case basis as to what the best solution for you is. But if you compare the images that Matt has posted, you'll notice the higher level of detail in the megapixel images over the analogs. Your predominant options for these cameras lie in the IP sector. In saying this, because of the greater FOV offered by the megapixel option (in Matt's 2nd example) you've pretty much got the entire shop covered in great detail with just 1 camera. To do the same with an analog would probably require at least 2, if not more. And whilst the shopkeeper might not have been considering coverage of his entire shop and just wanted to cover 1 display. It's unlikely that he would say no if you can offer him an increased area of coverage for a small price increase.

what is the difference between an injector and a switch? I want a multi port poe injector about 4/5 port will do for my domestic needs. Just want o keep all cabling a little bit tidy, any suggestions An injector is a single PoE source where a PoE switch is multi port. And a switch is also a network bridge. Someone else might be better able to describe it in laymans terms. I could try but a switch has a bunch of roles.

I installed into a large butchers chain. They have a full time employee at head office who monitors the cameras. Anything from when the shop opens to OH&S issues. There are plenty of other reasons to install CCTV other than a criminal deterrent

Well I will check them out .. but still cant sell 10 of those type of systems a day.. .. alarms still nothing we in CCTV can ever compete with until least the prices drop considerably. But what about the wireless keyfobs for panics etc? What bout hard wired panics? What about a keypad on the wall to arm/disarm the system? 2 way wireless button to arm/disarm it and tell you when it is armed or disarmed? And I really mean keyfobs that can fit on a keychain .. not a iPhone .. Also people want to be able to set the siren/silent panic off manually, nothing to do with the camera. What about the video monitoring by radio and not less stable and less secure Internet? Do any of you guys have an alarm system, so I know we are on the same page? There are numerous alarm/CCTV integrated systems coming out these days. iR's Concept series is one of the more well known ones that can.

No because Beta Max was actually superior to VHS. Where as HDcctv is not superior to IP. Except that beta max couldn't hold most feature length movies. So while it had an arguably slightly better image at times, it didn't fit the needs of what the public actually wanted overall. Hey, that sounds a lot like hdcctv Recording time wasn't an issue for PAL It was price for us.
