  1. I am trying to play back video recordings... I can play them and hea the audio, but the video is black. The recordings are in .mcg format, this is a format created by Vineyard technology, a US company that seems to have closed down. I am trying to watch them with both vineyard's PC Viewer from Vineyard, or the DX client that came with the DVR. And both have the rame problem. Since they can open and play the videos, playing the sound correctly but failing to render the moving video images (I see only blackness), I suspect I need to instal codecs for the format. Any ideas???? I have recently installed the K-Lite codec pack and also the VLC player, and neither have helped.

Found the solution... you need the Vineyard player (with it's own codecs built-in) NOW if anybody has a problem getting files or viewing files from Vineyard's .MCG format (used mostly for cheaper CCTV home security systems) The person who can fix it is Eric from www.datarecovery.com.au I can't put it up on a download page as I don't have one, but drop him a line. He also extracted the video recordings from the hard disk for me. I spent a bag of money getting him to write a de-coder for this damn Vineyard CCTV, so others may as well use it too!
  3. I have the video files extracted onto my hard disk and a vireo player that supports the codecs used by the DVR... the only problem is when I play them back, I hear the sound, but the footage is black... I have seen THIS player working correctly with THESE recordings on anouther PC... so I need to instal something into my windows PC...WHat?

    Playing back recordings -codecs

...more I hav just tried playing back the files with the DXClient version 2.7.1, hich came with the DVR. Exactly the same problem. Also it is not a hardware problem... As I have watched recordings on THIS PC, however I have had to re-install the OS (Windows XP Home) since then. Help?

    Playing back recordings -codecs

Yes, thanks... here are the details. THe recordings are made on a DVR using the Vineyard chipset. THis chip set seems to be used on many cheaper DVRs and the US company that made them seem not to support them anymore. Anyway, I have the Vineyard player ex 1.0.7 which seems to be the only one around. I have seen these video files playing with this player from the same removable hard drive as I am using... and the audio plays, and the video is black.
