    AXIS vs. D-Link

On this site you won't see much talk about inexpensive cameras unless they have a decent quality image or some other worthy feature.

Building a DVR system from a PC

You can probably find a used Avermedia NV3000 for cheap and use it in your old computer. They have software that works decent and I never had to pay for it. You can run 4 cameras off that board.
  3. BW, What models are you planning to review?
  4. Good point on the free Geovision software. Sad to see so many low cost cameras only supporting Onvif 2.0. Seems like 2.2 is the more current full featured set.
  5. Im curious with your experience with Avigilon why you wouldn't put ACC core in there. Those Geovision PTZ cameras support onvif (anyone know the version) and it should work in ACC.
  6. I am eagerly awaiting the new ACTI KCM-8211 outdoor PTZ camera. Any word on a release date? I would also love to see some real world videos of either it or the 8111.
  7. Nice. Thank you for the great comparison shots. It does appear ACTI duplicated the 5611 internals in the new PTZ. Can't wait for the KCM-8211 to finally surface. I'm tempted to get a KCM-8111 and stick it in an outdoor housing.
  8. Have you had any free time? It would be nice to know your thoughts on the 8111 since it is likely to be the same as the 8211 from a image quality standpoint.

    KCM 5611 zoom

Can those IR's be disabled in software?
  11. I am wanting to identify this type of coax connection. I need to find an adapter so I can pipe ethernet through a pelco esprit and put an IP camera using these http://www.amazon.com/Dualcomm-Ethernet-over-Adapters-DECA-100/dp/B009AGCLVG/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1361035364&sr=1-1
  12. My plan is to run it via Avigilon ACC and initially have a IP camera that can output RS485 to control the P/T. Fishing wire from the mid section to the top is easy. Getting from the mount to the mid section would require a new slip ring. I feel fairly confident I can find where to control pan and tilt internally, just not so sure I can get it to work minus the analog camera. It's clearly not your basic PT system. Even if I abort this project, the camera will still be used. It works quite well with ACC.
  13. I think your correct. With the camera out it would not boot properly. It's just a project so I am learning as I go. If you have any info on ways around that, I'm all ears.
  14. That Pelco Esprit has a lot of circuitry in the system. I would be leery of feeding power down the coax since it's not a clean run. I am also not 100% certain that feeding Ethernet down their will be clean. If Pelco has a system where full control can be done over the coax, then it might be a gamble getting a signal up there. There is 24v power up top, so powering the camera will be easy enough. I could also power other items if the load is not too great. I'm in the process of dismantling it so I can trace out the wires and see what each does. I'll have to send PT commands back down to the control somehow.
  15. If they both require power then I sense a possible problem. One of these is going in the housing with the camera and powering it might be an issue. The ones I linked on Amazon claim to not require power. Just a passive connection and that keep failure down to a minimum. Looking at the images on some of these, it only appeared to require power at the origin point.
  16. So these DirecTV DECA items require power? Both ends or just the sending end? Just trying to get the correct items. Thanks
  17. That cable you linked to is exactly what I would need. My picture did not show the difference in size between the two connectors. I'll see what I can find on ebay. Thanks!
  18. Korgoth, I am also curious how the zoom and focus of the KCM-5611 compares to the KCM-8111/8211. Is it anywhere as speedy?

Russian meteor strike caught on surveillance cameras

I see a big spike of in sales of dash cams coming.
  20. In those day time shots, the Acti seemed to focus faster. The Geo seemed to take longer. All in all it did compare well. Not a bad price either.
  21. Korgoth, I really appreciate your videos. I know you have lots on your plate, but if you had a chance to do a side by side with a 8111 and 5611 it would be a more definitive finding. I think it would be real disappointing for Acti not to duplicate the quality of the 5611 in these PTZ's.
  22. Look up 802.3at poe injectors. 30 watts. That's the way to power it.

    VideoTec EXHD001

It will be interesting. Hard to wrap my head around where this camera will be. I struggle with complex problems like what color cat x to use.

That sounds like a tough environment to monitor. Might be cheaper to have someone physically wipe the lens as needed.
