  1. What about the cameras? its mainly the cameras that have packed up. I dont think they can survive the British weather.
  2. I bought a Maplin CCTV system (separate Sentienent cameras x 4) and USB PC based system in Jan 09. Ive had nothing but problems with it, and the cameras, one by one failed. Initially Maplin replaced them but recently Maplin changed its position and say the service life of their goods is limited to 12 months. This is bacause the warranty on their goods expires after 12 months from the date of purchase (rather then the date of installation) and are now refusing to replace faulty goods or offer a refund. I am thinking of ripping the complete system out and having a professional CCTV system installed. Before any of you give me a dam good hiding with haha - I told you so because I selected a Maplin system, I was satisfied by the store manager their goods are of professional quality and I had no reason to distrust him. I admit with hindsight, it was a mistake to go with a Maplin system. I am about to ask for a refund for the whole system because Maplin did not declare the goods were limited to a service life of 12 months at the time of purchase and admitted they have had issues with their CCTV goods. However, I anticipate this can only be settled in the Small Claims Track because, infosar, Maplin are refusing a refund and intentionally excluding itself from liability under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 and Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1975. This is 4 camera system, two dome cameras on front & back doors and two night-vision IR floodlight cameras mounted outide on the roof facias beneath the gutter. Can anyone suggest a suitable professional system and a DVR box which can be connected to a PC to download stored video.
  3. Hi I currently have a 4-camera CCTV system with the SWANN Guardian USB DVR (the DVR 4 Net) but I have to leave the PC on all the time. I would like to have a separate DVR box which I can use the PC (via USB) to view the recorded footage and can record only on motion detection. I am in the UK, in your opinion what’s the best unit?
  4. THis post is for informationn only. We cracked the 32Mb dead file problem. If the PC shuts down or power is lost to the PC without closing the DVR-4-NET application, the file it has open becomes corrupted and recorded footage is lost. The fix: Close the DVR-4-NET application before shutting down the PC and that allows the application to complete the video file it has open.
  5. I have a Swann USB PC DVR-4-Net with 4 cameras that records motion clips to the hard drive. The files play in Windows Media player fine, but if the file length of the clip is precisely 32Mb in size I get an error from Windows Media Player. I get the same result after replacing the PC USB card, and changing the laptop running Windows XP and Windows 7. Also any 32Mb sized clip cannot be seen as a thumbnail in Windows. (XP pro and Win7) I get the same result after replacing the PC USB card, and changing the laptop running Windows XP and Windows 7. Swann tech support cannot resolve it. I am currently running the system on a 3rd computer, a desktop also running Windows XP Pro. Help!!!
  6. The K-lite codec pack and irfan viewer didnt work. Interestingly if I exit the PC software the video file currently being recorded is closed and becomes viewable in WMP. The 32Mb files return an error saying they are currupt (irfan included) regardless what player is being used to view them. I'll explore a way to automatically terminate the restart the application in ordert to prevent files reaching 32Mb in suze which I think is 1 hour of video. I am otherwise still open for suggestions, and thank you to trhose who have already put forward comments.
