http://bit.ly/1oG1v4a seriously though, talk to the salesman - I don't expect you're their first customer.

set up the network yourself, I'm sure no one at their company would complain.

Most UPS's above bottom grade include Ethernet protection....but really, how is this a problem with just your DVR? I'd like to hear more about your setup.

can anyone help me change the video loss logo on Samsung's SDR-5102N DVR? It's just a cheap embedded analog machine... I don't even know where to start (I've done it on my PC based DVRs for years though)

I've tried a couple of things... I went to Samsung's site & downloaded a firmware update from another model since there isn't one for mine yet, it kicked out a .zip file called sde-500x-t1-pkg_v1.02h_120612154015, I extracted it and it just removed the .zip at the end. Can't really get into it. So then I went into settings under system management and exported the DVR info to a flash drive; it created a folder named SDR-5102 with a file called 14051800.dat which is recognized by my pc as a Video CD Movie. Any pointers?

I just noticed they only spin @ 5400 rpms, not 7200 like the blacks/enterprise grades I've been using. I'm not doing any IP cam stuff, will they be fast enough for <16 camera 640x480 systems?
-
thanks for that. I have 3 more on the way, just finished setting up the first. I've been using Enterprise grade recently for the most part after some quick failures w/ blues & greens (not many, but still). I have a bunch of SSDs too, mostly on the my most-used machines/servers, but I don't notice much other than the lag from when a disk in standby mode starts to spin. OK, SSD is lots faster.

I think the problem has been solved.... It might've just been an intermittent VGA cable, a faulty board mod (me and my soldering iron), or the hot summer sun, but it's rocking steady for the last couple weeks (different monitor, I built a new enclosure). I used 3/4" oak veneered plywood painted black with a 3/8" thick plexi (forget which type) screen.

I'm wondering what kind of display will offer best viewing in direct sunlight. I set up a 17" LED monitor in a weatherproof outdoor enclosure. It faces due south, works for a while, and then it fades out after a while. Any suggestions on what would work best?

inputs / outputs - what are people using for IP systems?
Dirk_D posted a topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
I'm slowly working my way into IP CCTV and I'm wondering what off the shelf products people are using for relay I/O, and maybe a general overview on how it works -
I'm trying to figure out a way to stream multiple, combined, (think mixer) audio and maybe even a video signal alongside. I'm just looking into the theory & practice, I'd like to stick with linux.... android is next preferred, but if there's a good Windows option I'd like to see that too.

Interested in computer network intercom - Not CCTV Related

Well this looks promising, hopefully I'm smart enough to make something work http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Open+Source+VOIP+Software -

I suppose relays on cameras could be useful, but that's not what I'm looking for. I'm looking at all kinds of IP based systems - not all of them CCTV systems. I saw these Net triggers and started thinking. -
Need help choosing a good night vision camera

these things are annoying as hell - I'd post some overview pics of the problem area and figure that part out first. -
thanks for the ideas. I just went and looked at the original, it was recessed nearly an inch from the front surface. At the plastics shop I was given 2 choices - impact or scratch resistant - I'll call them tomorrow & see what they were to see if I can get more info. Overheating could be an issue, I did a little weatherproofing of my own. I think I'm going to make a spacer to push it farther from the front, look at cooling, & UV

it's been at a customer site - the tech said it was fading in the center but slightly visible at the edges.... he thought it was just powered off at first. The customer said it fades out a few times per day. I have it here now, I'm hoping to recreate the scenario....if the weather heats up. It's a ViewSonic VA705-LED 17-Inch Screen LED-lit Monitor http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008FC8DYK/ref=pe_385040_30332190_pe_175190_21431760_M3T1_ST1_dp_1 I just know how my phone will be difficult to see if I leave it outside face up (streaming Pandora etc) for a while, or how my meters' screens will go completely black in the same scenario... I really don't know all that much about this technology. I'm thinking I might put a little more space between the front of the monitor & the front of the weatherproof surface....and would there be some way to block some of the UV light? (tech's idea)

Costco Swann 16port and vairfocals are back
Dirk_D replied to zikronix's topic in IP/Megapixel Cameras and Software Solutions
yeah, they're real pioneers - in 2012 they introduced D1 (their video ad). WTF? they're forcing us to up our hands though. We've always faced this but it looks like lately they're tough to beat from a consumer's point though. I'm playing with my NAS (synology), playing with servers, I'm sick of Windows (also playing with linux). Looking for my next move. -

ISC East is coming up. They offer all kinds of classes. Nothing beats experience and the potential for loss though. http://www.isceast.com/ -
I got a DVR in for repair & the keyboard only works on 1 of 4-5 USB ports, the mouse won't work on any. I had the bright idea of connecting a PS2 mouse but I'm waiting on it's arrival tomorrow - the USB->PS2 adapter didn't work. Any clue as to why the keyboard would only work on one USB port? I rebuilt this particular machine 12/2008.

A vendor I used to use (AVS Uriel) did some sort of image on the main hard drive that would rebuild the software to the day it was sent out. Any idea on how they did this?
