http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370912341164&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en I am looking for a new dvr with decent record quality and easy motion search and playback. I am currently using an older Bosch dvr because the playback is so easy to go through a day. I have read all over this place that dahua dvrs are great so I am wiling to try one.

Which speco dvr are you using? If you are not a speco dealer or distributor you wont get much help from them. most of them run off of 12 volts dc so if you have access to desktop type 6amp power supply you could try using it to eliminate the power supply being the culprit. I have an astron RS12 I use for testing.

The first thing I would try is upgrading the firmware.

I have a speco 8 channel DVR for sale. It has the original hard drive in it which is sata. Was recently at speco and had the software upgraded to the latest version and all the passwords reset. The fans were both replaced. It is the MPEG4 version. I am looking to get $150 for it plus shipping or maybe trade for some other equipment. I do not have the original power supply but I do have a 12 volt desktop type power supply I was using to power it if you need it. The #1 LED is burned out on it just putting it out there in case it would bother someone.

Thanks for the reply. I just had a spare sata drive at home I was trying use without buying a new one.

I have an older Bosch divar that has a 250 gig drive in it and I tried upgraded to a 1 TB drive. The problem is it wants an ide drive and tried a sata drive with a roswill sata to ide adapter. It sees the drive in the menu but it only records to it for about 15 min before I get a disk failure. Even after the failure the HDD still is shown in the menu its there but it just stops writing to it unless I reboot it and it will record again for 15 min or so. I really love this dvr but just want more storage for it. Maybe someone here has used other adapters with good luck. I am willing to try another brand

I have swapped hard drives in speco dvrs with no issues. I currently have a TL series dvr I upgraded from a 320 to 1TB with no problems. I haven't used a LS one yet but I am sure its pretty close to same.

Anybody work with one of these? I just found updated software and firmware for this unit. I am running 1.12 and control center 1.10 right now and was going to try the 2.36 I just found. The process looks easy enough but the one I have is a philips and software is for a bosch I assume they are the same? any license problems or anything I need to be aware of first I dont want to turn this thing into a paper weight. Its a quality piece I have been using for a few years now.

Thanks for all the help. I am glad that it is working I got 3 of these of these for free from a customer that upgraded their dvrs. So I am trying to get one together with fresh hard drives to give to a relative that has an auto shop that the yard gets broken into. Well a have a maxtor 250 drive I am going to try today we will see what happens. I am not trying to invest a lot of money in these things but I need them to be reliable. Just for reference the wd drive I tried is a wd1600aajb and it does not work. The seagate is a st3100011a does work. An update the maxtor drive works installed as a slave all ok and it has 16mb of cache.

Ok I was able to use your instructions and got a spare seagate drive I had laying around to work 100gb. I am guessing it does not like the WD drive for whatever reason. So I will have to return these drives I bought and look for another. How large of a drive can you use in these things?
-
Alright I have followed your instructions to the tee and still no luck. Maybe I am using the wrong software i downloaded DS2_DVTX_v165 my model is DS2P-DX16C-320GB ver 3.1 (135). So any other ideas its stuck on the initializing boot loader screen still.
-
I have tried all the steps as mentioned still with no success I used the western digital fat32 formatter and then tried to use the drive as a slave just to see if it works and no luck it just stops at the initializing boot loader screen. I have tried the jumpers in various spots master and slave with no luck. When I put it(new drive) master with the primary(original drive) as the master as well it goes through the ram test the drive screen flashes and I only see the master on the screen and then get a fat32 error use the monitor to correct. Any Ideas may the WD drive not be compatible? Its becoming frustrating I have built many pcs and repaired several dvrs and never this much trouble. I may try another fat32 formatter tomorrow I have vista at home I dont think it likes the ridgecore software I will try it at work with xp.

Alright I have done everything to put new hard drives in a sprite 2 its a DS2P model. I have tried the ftp thing formatting in fat32 copying the files from the other drive it does work, and also using acronis to image it and have had no luck. Basically the drives have a date of 2005 on them and I figure Im on borrowed time till they fail. The drives I bought are wd 160gb 8 mb blue series. When it tries to boot it gets stuck on initializing bootloader. I am about to trash this pos. Any help would be appreciated as I am new to the DM products.

Well after all the messing around i've done i found it. I went into the network viewer then into setup and I was able to change the user password and enable the web viewer and voila it works. This is a pretty nice dvr I currently use a Phillips Divar but I may be switching to one of these once I get an answer about the whole hard drive replacement.
