I have opted for the AVTech 674. It is only 4 channels so I am having to rethink a little, but I have managed to get it for less than £120 delivered. This appears to me a very common unit. I have a spare 320gb hard drive to stick in it. If I find this unit is not enough for me, I have really not lost a lot.

Hi Hope you don't mind me jumping in. I think I am in similar situation. I have been a fan of Dedicated Micros, and have six units at various sites. They are quality units, but when they go wrong can be very expensive to repair/replace. I have been looking throught this forum and found the AVTech to be quite a popular unit. I think this will do what I want in most cases at a fraction of the cost of a DM unit. They look to offer good value for money. Is this a good unit for someone wanting a DVR on a budget? My requirements are: min 5 channels so I guess this means 8 or 9 channel. 14 day recording remote viewing and setup remote viewing using Windows Mobile 6.5 any help or advice appreciated.

Again thanks for the reply. A couple of days ago the front panel buttons were working. Is it possible that we have activated a password by accident?. If there were a password present would it not still do something, like ask for it on holding the menu key. Lastly I have just got in using hyperterminal when the unit was halted on bootloader. cheers for the help.

Hi, I have two Dedicated Mocros DS2s (DX09c) that appear to have developed the same fault. The front panel buttons are totally unresponsive. They do nothing. It is possible to control these units with a keyboard (KBS3) plugged into the 485 bus. I was wondering if there is some type of way the front panel has become locked, or is it just a fault on both units? Any help appreciated. Cheers

Hi thanks for the reply. When I hold the menu button down for 6 seconds should this pop up anything on the screen? It does not do anything. Something that may be connected. If I connect using a null modem and use hyperterminal, it won't let me log in using the password found on this forum.
