hi not shure about log records on your dvr. 5-6 accounts -- do you know who has control ...... if not change passwords and give the new one to only the operators that should have remote log in By who has control do you mean like overall? for the whole system?... Then yes I do. In my opinion there really are only two people who need "power user" accounts and they are the head of operations and the other big head honcho who runs the place. I don't think every tom dick and harry in the office needs to be able to go and play with the PTZ's and move them and change settings, but that is how it is set up right now.

Thanks guys for the reply's! I will try some of your suggestions today. Ill remote into the DVR and reset some of the cameras and then keep and eye on them. Also can any one explain where the log would be on a Pelco DX series DVR? I'm sure I can find it if I look hard enough. And about user accounts... there are about 5-6 different power user accounts on each DVR including the local police station. If worst comes to worst ill give TLS a call. Thanks guys! I'll keep you posted.

I forgot to answer your question (first off I am typing from my iPhone while at a restaraunt. So sorry for some spelling mistakes and stuff) Ok so yes now they are set to restate the pattern after a power cycle. Who ever set up the system literally hooked it all up turned it on and walked away. They did not set nothing up on the DVR or cameras. Yes I can still enter the menus and steer them. The whole system actuat works great besides this pattern issue. If user it to do preset tour it works fine it never messes up. But when they do patterns they all (12 at each site) end up getting off track and doing stupid stuff like random zooms into gas meters and stuff. If you guys could only imagine some of the stuff I have seen in the way this system was hooked up. The ptz are all on utility poles in a not so friendly area. For one when I first got to the site one camera was all weirdosh red I mean weird so I had the other guy with me go reboot the cam up at the pole. That caused it to come back on but was all choppy and popped in and out and would not listen to anything I did. It literally did as it pleased. Looong story short the guy Hooked up the video/power surge protector backwards... And it had been like this for the last two years! Idk if I can't come up with anything by Monday I'm gonna restore the whole pelco dvr (it's a DX8100 Hybrid DVR) it has the restore disk. So I think I am going to start over from scratch because god only knows what the last people who installed it did during the system setup. But I have sat and played with this system for the past 4 days! And still have no clue why they mess up there patterns. I have a video of what the cameras do that I will post when I get home tonight. Also they are all controlled through coaxitron... Here is the video (in the video when he mentioned something with the modem we were talking about a whole different issue)

Sorry for the late reply guys been pretty buys with work the last week (dealing with these cameras) so far I have found out that the people who installed the system was a bunch of brain dead morons (more about that later this is a quick update before i have to leave) anyway none of the cameras where set to auto resume the pattern after power failure so I programmed that in to them. Here is the problem though the cameras will slowly start to drift away from what I programmed the pattern to be looking at. They slowly start to pan to far or tilt to high and zoom to close and then eventually they are completely off track. At the other site the cameras loose the pattern within about 5 minutes they start messing up. Two of the cameras even randomly start zooming into the ground and panning around. Then they refuse to start the pattern after that unless you re-program the pattern. More info tonight when I get back home. But I have to get this working before the 4th of july since last year the people went nuts and attacked the police with fireworks (over 100 people) and the people who installed the system set the 12 PTZ's to record at 1 flipping frame per second!!! so the footage was worthless... anyway as I said before more tonight I got to go!
  5. Nope I did not get the software today my boss left the CD at home :-/ and about the X I just copy and pasted the model number from a website online while looking for the program. I didn't even notice the X.
  6. Quick question... My CD with the remote software is at the office. Do any of you know where I might be able to download this software tonight so I don't have to wait till I get the CD from work? It is a 4ch Honeywell HRDP4FX DVR I can't find a link to the software anywhere.
  7. Okay so I know they make baluns for this exact purpose. But I want to know your guys opinions on this. What would be so wrong with running the video signal like this: Positive Video = W/Blue Negative Video = Blue And sending the 12V like this: Positive 12V = W/Orange, W/Green, W/Brown (Twisted Together) Negative 12V = Orange, Green, Brown (Twisted Together) Of course the color choice does not matter. Just a thought figured I would see what you guys thought about it. (Edit) I forgot to mention that I would still include a regular balun on the video line. It just would not be a POE balun.

Using UTP for power and video

Wow I'm so glad everyone responded to this! Thanks everyone.
  9. Okay so I am currently installing 16 cameras at a hotel. The problem with this install is the first floor has no drop ceiling and all concrete walls. The first floor has conduit running all down the walls in the hall. There is no way into the ceiling of the first floor. The owner told us to just run the wiring along the top of the conduit, no problem it looks good and you can barely even see the wire. The problem comes when we go to mount cameras and we have a DC plug and a big balun hanging from the side of the camera. I was thinking about mounting an octagon power box and stuffing the balun and DC plug inside it and mount the camera to the box. I am going back there tomorrow to do the cameras on the first floor. The second floor was easy since there was an attic and all the wiring runs through there. Anyone have any good suggestions to this sort of problem? would an octagon box work or do they make anything specifically for this.

    Mounting cameras with exposed wiring

Looks good. Mine will be with small dome cameras. I might paint the blue boxes white to match the hotel ceiling unless I can find white boxes at the store.

Thanks! I'll probably pic up a couple boxes tomorrow and see what else they have at the hardware store box wise.

Using UTP for power and video

Awesome thank you! that is exactly what I was thinking!

Using UTP for power and video

Thats actually what we used at one job. My boss had just asked me this mourning about running the power and video down UTP without buying a balun like that because they cost more then a regular balun. I agree and think its allot cleaner to use the balun you linked to. I was just looking for some input to relay to him about it. In my opinion for a short distance it wouldn't be bad but for long distances it might be a better idea to just buy the poe balun.

Using UTP for power and video

You are right about the color I agree I just typed it wrong and for distance about 200-300 feet.

Using UTP for power and video

Actually I did forget to mention that I would still include a regular video Balun on the video line but was just wondering if it would be okay to actually twist them 3 wires together and send power down the same cable without using a POE balun. And as far as distance goes, anywhere from 200-300 feet. I am just thinking if this is not in anyway terribly bad it would save some money by not having to buy POE baluns and buying and crimping ethernet ends on my lines.
  16. Hi I recently installed a 32CH system at a local restaurant. Well we have 6 mic's installed and after hooking them up and turning on the audio we have a weird pulsing kind of smacking sound on all the mics. The sound is louder on some mics and quitter on others. Could this be because of electrical noise? all mics are amplified mics running on RG59. Anyway I am going to try and fix this problem tomorrow and then I will be done with this job finally. Any suggestions on what could be causing this? It is a Divis 32Ch system. Also you can hear people talking the audio works there is just like a continuous timed smacking weird noise on all the mics.

    EMERGENCY Audio problem please help

Well I went to try and figure it out today. the first thing I did was bring some speakers with me and plugged them into the DVR and much to my surprise the audio was perfect on all 6 channels. So now I figure its got to be picking something up on the cable line running to the modem. I ruled that out and tried something I really didn't think would make a difference. See the DVR is on its own Charter modem nothing else attached. We attached the managers computer to the DVR's charter modem so he could have the faster speed since the other restaurants modem was packed and slowed to a crawl during business time. So we ran a long ethernet line from his office on one side of the building to the charter modem for the DVR. Now once I unplugged this long ethernet cable from the modem much to my surprise the audio being transmitted online to remote stations was clean no pulsing rhythm in them. Once his computer was attached the noise came back. I reconnected his computer back up to his old network and left the Charter modem with nothing but the DVR attached. Before I left it was working perfectly... then once back home I logged on to test the site and bam the noise is back but not nearly as bad. On some cameras its really low. On others its definitely back. It has me stumped... also i noticed the audio pulsates exactly with the Modem connectivity lights in the same exact rhythm.
  18. I acquired a Dynacolor 216L DVR from eBay for my CCTV system. I have the dynaremote application working but it only works on IE because of ActiveX. My question is, is there anyway to view my DVR with my iPhone. I know Dynacolor says the Dynaguard series of DVRs has mobile view but I can't find that on my DVR does my version not have that? An if not why couldn't they add it with a simple software update?
  19. Hi this problem just started developing tonight. I have a Sony SSCM383 B&W camera it works great but tonight i noticed that i had a L for loss of video signal warning pop up. The camera was off i checked the video line and it was fine so i unplugged the fuse for the camera and plugged it back in (its 24V AC). The camera came back on and all was good well i walked away and about 20 minutes later and came back back and it was off again. I unplugged the fuse and plugged it back in sure enough the video returned. So i went back about 5 minutes in my DVR and watched for when the camera went out... what i found out was that the camera is slowly turning the picture darker and darker until the camera actually shows no video output, the DVR displays an "L" when the signal is lost. The cameras are in Ultrak housings with blower and heater. Its 24.7F outside right now but I have never had any problems with this camera. I have no clue what it could be is the camera just slowly dying? UPDATE: I just witnessed it do it again... it starts to slowly fade darker but then flashes from dark to lite. Its weird and then it stops flashing and slooooooowly fades to nothing and then drops signal completely.
  20. It does have a heater in the enclosure. I checked the heater a few months ago and it worked but it might have gone out Ill give it a test today and see what happens.
  21. Okay i am new to the forum but very familiar with CCTV. I have installed my own CCTV system around my house it consists of 11 professional CCTV cameras. I bought all of my equipment on ebay for about $1,000 used. My whole system totals to around 9,000 brand new. It is pretty much a big hobby for me.... Well i have a Pelco MPT9500 PTZ controller and a Pelco Spectra 2 PTZ which works great. I just recently received a Bosch LTC 0728/20 PTZ camera on ebay. The camera is a rs-232 camera. I can not for the life of me get this camera to do anything... When it is given power the red LED indicates the camera has power but it never initializes i assume this is because i can not control this camera with Rs-485. I was wondering if there are any easy alternatives to control this Bosch PTZ. It looks like a very nice camera and would love to get it added to my working collection. Anyway thanks guy! Heres a Rundown of my system 1 Pelco Spectra 2 PTZ 1 Bosch PTZ 1 Bosch Dinion B&W 5 Sony Digital CCTV cameras 2 Sensormatics 1 Clinton 1 Costar 1 Pelco vandal proof fixed dome 5 Ultrak outdoor housings with heaters and blowers 1 Pelco MPT9500 PTZ controller 1 Altronix 20 amp 24-30V AC 16Ch power supply The worst part about my system is the generic CCTV DVR software and the older computer running it all but it does a great job.
  22. I recently got a Dynacolor Dynaguard 216L DVR off of bay for 200 bucks. It is in amazing shape and works great (way better then my crappy chines off brand DVR card with crappy PC) I have two questions. Number one does anyone know where I can find the users manual for this DVR. Number two my DVR has 16 alarm inputs (its a 16ch DVR) well the alarm inputs/outputs terminals are only labeled 1-16 and 17-32. I have a NO alarm on CH1 the wires come from terminal 1 and terminal 17 (directly above 1) when i press the wires together it triggers the alarm. Now if i set a NO alarm for CH2 by using terminals 2 and terminal 18 (right above number 2) but when there touched together it does not trigger an alarm. I have also tried terminal 2 and terminal 17 but still no trigger. My main question is does anyone know the pinout of the terminals on a dynacolor DVR because I cannot get any other alarms to work besides CH1. I also need help finding out which ones are the alarm outputs I should have two outputs. If anyone could help me figure this out it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
