  1. are they putting cameras at site 1 also or just purely monitoring site 2? if just cameras at site 2, i would put the NVR at site 2 and just setup a basic PC with a browser at site 1 connected to the TV to view the web app streaming from site 2's NVR. Much less bandwidth over the internet or if its the same broadband carrier between sites, it stays on their backbone. Trying to send uncompressed video across over VPN between the sites just sounds like a terrible and expensive challenge. you can still do the VPN connection between the sites to view the web compressed stream and depending on NVR you can control any ptz etc within the web streaming app if that is what you mean by them needing to control the cameras at the 2nd site.
  2. agreed, looks like someone tweeked the brightness to full high for better night mode, not realizing it would wash out day mode viewing.

  4. I think the idea is you pay a premium for a product you are also getting a premium support service. You pay for equipment with nonexistant support, you go find support online. I can understand the frustration though with the DIY folks, I mean you have people coming in here with absolutely no knowledge or very little of IP networking and its post after post about how do i make this work. before it was cctv standalone, now its interconnectivity with business or home networking. in the same right, i've met security installers who know cctv but don't know their ass about IP connectivity. other forums are plagued with the same stuff. "Here do this for me" It's difficult to read these threads where it seems like very little personal investigation has been made before the requests. It's a major turn off to wanting to help people as well. Show a little self prerogative.
  5. just use the motherboard BIOS temp alert/shutdown and configure it for 5 degrees over the hottest environment the chassis will see. you will hear it beeping when the time comes, this concern is way overblown. the ventilation in the chassis installation's environment should be of more concern. blow the thing out once a year and be done with it. i ran 6 cameras @ roughly 12.8MP between 20-30fps on a leftover amd phenom x4 3.2ghz with a mere 4gb ram with xprotect. Nothing special. A basic 4 core i5 or i7 will be enough. You just need to be realistic with yourself if you expect to expand beyond the 8 cameras xprotect offers in the basic free package.
  6. if you changed the router admin password, then he can't get into that anymore remotely. If you change the admin password to the DVR then he can't access the DVR web access assuming he forwarded the ports to your router to access it via web. If there is some android or ios application that talks to the DVR then its either using the same admin password or its using one specified in user accounts for the DVR to access like another "operator" account. change all the passwords and then at the very worst you will have to go into your "App" and correct the login credentials password. If you are not sure how to do any of this then you might want to download the manual for your DVR which should be available online and walk you through the menus. If you aren't comfortable doing that I would hire someone else and let them sit in front of you and show you where to put your passwords next time vs telling him your passwords.
  7. what separate software would you need that this monkey has? It's a DVR, plugin a mouse/keyboard/monitor to the DVR and walk through the menus for whatever mobile password you need to reset?
  8. There is an obvious correlation between a popular brand getting hacked vs other brands. Foscam is widely sold just as Windows is more widely deployed. If you were to spend time coming up with a hack/exploit for something, wouldn't you choose to exploit the most widely available and produced product vs something there are few deployments of. I'm not saying Foscam is one of the better cameras, its just more widely sold in the market. The only thing these people do with the media is bring attention to how stupid as @$%^ they are. Foscam wants to appeal to the everyday idiot home user so they in turn get to deal with the bad press these idiots bring upon their product, that is the reality. Most of the competing products have similar vulnerabilities, much like idiots who don't change their WiFi Router Passwords. Other companies choose to stay under the radar and sell to installers so they avoid some of this bad press brought upon by the special folk among us.
  9. post the firmware version. I've got two of these 2100's and they came with different firmwares.
  10. Wanted to thank you guys for posting those pictures, was able to reproduce this and pleased with how it came out.
  11. We already have an infrastructure for an IP based system, but I can also run BNC around the building if the rest of the setup can be had for less. I'm looking for a PC setup that utilizes a pci-express card that will work on Windows 7 as 32-bit or 64-bit preferably which has a good (reliable) software package that I can use with an Android phone. Because CCTV systems are fairly interchangeable when it comes to cameras etc, it seems like the biggest complaint I read on these forums is regarding the software. I am a systems administrator so very versed in being able to set something like this up. So here is a breakdown of important features. 1. Will be used indoors to monitor doorways and some open areas with cubicles. Mostly likely a 4-8 camera based system. 2. Needs to have web based capability to monitor remotely. 3. Needs to have Android based application to be used with android smartphones. So far I've looked at Alnet and Geovision, but not sure if Geovision has an android based client. I don't mind building this in stages to ease burden of cost over time. Can anyone provide some input into who else makes a reliable system. Not too worried about the cameras since they seem to be different between manufacturers.
