    Avigilon on Atom Server

yeah i knew that was the case. thanks for verifying. i could see the cpu get hit when i log in ....

    Avigilon on Atom Server

For small camera counts you can run the gateway on the same server BUT Avigilon strongly recommends that the Gateway be installed on a separate machine. what would the specs be on that machine then? whats a small camera count ? under 16? does the resolution of cameras effect the gateway power needs?

if your running 4 5mp on a core i5 and are logged into the server using the gateway i think the cpu is gonna work harder? so the server might be fine recording like 20 cams but when you ask the gateway to work your gonna tax the system more? right? processors cpu mark all comes down to mbps recording rate. so a cpu with a 3000 mark is good for what like 100mbps recording with overhead for the gateway?
  4. what lens were you using, that makes it not such a great performer?
  5. i have 3 buildings. 200 ft distance on one, 400 on another, from HE. 4 5mp in one building and 3 5mp in another. i used ubiquiti in the past. it works for 9 months now and no service calls. even through the big power outages from the two storms. so i might want 300mbps combined back to the head end location...all locations are LOS
  6. hows the fluid mesh to set up?
  7. project to do. is the equipment any good and does it work reliably. support? hahaha ...Don Rumsfeld is a senior advisor....it must be good http://www.firetide.com/innerContent.aspx?taxid=20&id=1812

    how would you do it?

yeah thank you for the suggestions....don't get me wrong i appreciate it

    how would you do it?

the dvrs or nvrs cannot go in building 6 only 5. your talking about running a 12 pair or 10 pair cat 5 to service buildings 7,8,9,10, and 11...the issue is future cameras are dependant on how many pairs you pull. the real issue i guess is having a crew of about 10 guys with radios to all coordinate keeping slack from building 6 to 9....based on the layouts of the basements/crawl spaces this could be challening. its not like the pipes are directly accross from each other with no obstructions.. plus you got 90 degree bends...there is also little room for pulling and placing figure 8's in the basements. i could see a figure 8 outside of the community building though...

    Ip Encoders

well i needed it anyhow for this lightweight job so, it was an interesting test.
  13. do you think standalone ip encoders have superior image quality than a decent modern day analogue dvr???

    Ip Encoders

i just got the vivotek encoder. i don't notice any difference in quality from a 4 cif recorded image on that Samsung srd-1652 dvr and the encoder.

    Ip Encoders

even new analogue dvrs make a decent camera look like crap for the live display even on a decent monitor...I can't understand why it looks mangled......another reason for a hybrid system with encoders

    Ip Encoders

Disagree. Encoders give you more flexibly with system design and system expandability. Plus you get much better VMS software then most DVRs. I would use encoders any day over a DVR and I can do it cheaper then professional-hyprid DVRs. yeah i have to agree....you need good low light but not alot of resolution get the encoder and run a few megapixels for the other areas... the only hitch i have recently is when you search recorded video on the VMS I have used you can't snyc the recorded videos of cameras to display. Is there a fix to that?

    Ip Encoders

Weakest-link theory: your image quality is still limited by the NTSC video standard; an encoder can't magically turn a 480TVL camera into megapixel. The only way you get better images is if the encoder is using a "less harsh" compression than the DVR or card you're plugging into. yeah i'm thinking at least with encoders you can control bit rate....so mabye a higher bit rate could help...I'm happy with these images, but for jobs where i need low light I'd like to put in analogues with an encoder

    Ip Encoders

the outdoor is sco-2080 indoor is scd-2080...the one on the counter is an ATV Tower cam..that cam is 1/4" sensor. it is a tiny bullet cam that fits in the tower....i think that recorder set at the highest level with the new firmware has good quality recorded images

    Ip Encoders

i did a budget job with some vivoteks, but the customer needs covert and low light...so i'm gonna do some analogues with an encoder. they got a cam in another off site location, so thats why im ip with a server at the main office....So i got a vivotek encoder.... on another note: here is some samsung cams from a recent job with samsung dvr. you think you can get better images from these cams with an encoder.

    VCM-24VF Excessive noise

update: some of these cnbs i find are inconsistent with this switch over level. try playing with the agc settings. any lower than 14 it would stay in color not matter what. at level 15 and above it switches normally.... i have two brand new cams and one works fine not matter what but another has the inconsistent problem..
  22. what software can do this... i want to record say 1.3mp or 2mp at 5000kbps...but when i search remotely it ain't gonna stream that very well. how can i have a sub stream to the recorded vid, or that ain't gonna happen
